Off Season 1872
1st January 1873 There were major changes in the front office of the St. Louis Brown Stockings for the fans to take in. Both GM Troy Willis and Manager William Saxon were sacked after only half a season in their roles. Their replacements are new GM Al Haney and ex Boston Red Stockings Manager Kyle Finley. We will see if these changes make any difference next season. There were no awards for any players for this year. They have strengthed the batting line up by trading for Second Baseman Tom J Carey from Cleveland. They had to give up First Baseman Joe Miller, Second Baseman Frank Fleet and Right Fielders Frabk Buttery and George Ewell in exchange. The team went out for strengthening in the draft. They chose pitcher U O'Rourke in the first round. The full draft log is shown below The team managed to sign all their draftees by the deadline. |

Preseason 1873
1st April 1873 The new season is upon the Brooklyn Atlantics and the fans are hoping for an improvement in this seasons fortunes compared to last season. The independent league prediction cannot see much change in fortune for the team as they see them finishing last again this season. The only improvement they do see is in the amount of wins the team will achieve. The 50 game schedule has been retained by the MLB. The teams GM and Manager have made their final roster moves to confirm their final 25 Below is the 25 man active roster |

Preseason 1873
1st April 1873 The fans of the White Stockings are hoping that their team can do a repeat of last season and take them to the promised land for the second time. The independent league predictions think this is possible as they put the White Stockings in first place in the NL. The one thing they do say is that it is likely to be a lot closer this coming season than it was last season. The teams will again face a 50 game schedule as the MLB retains its current format. The GM and manager have assessed their players and have selected their final roster of 25 Below is the 25 man active roster |

Preseason 1873
1st April 1873 The team has made changes during the off season and the fans of the renamed Cleveland Blues are not sure if they are the right or wrong moves. The independent league prediction feels that they are the wrong move as it sees the team fall back to finishing last in the AL. What doesn't help this assessment is the fact that the club has also had to move ground. The team will now be playing its games at the Kennard Street Park. The new stadium will see the same amount of games as the old as the MLB plays the same 50 game schedule. Below is the 25 players that have been picked to be the starting day roster from the 37 that are registered on the team. |

Preseason 1873
1st April 1873 The fans of the Athletics are hoping that the same set up as last season will be strong enough to challenge for the AL title again this season. The independent league prediction doesn't feel the same as they see the team coming 3rd in the AL with the same record as fourth placed Cleveland. The team will face a schedule that is still only 50 games long as no changes were made to the MLB rules during the off season. The 25 stars that are on the starting day roster include |

April 1873
1st May 1873 The first month of the new season has not been as good to the Baltimore Canaries as the previous 2 seasons have been. The team struggled to find form as they got used to the new managers methods and tactics. They posted a 3-5 record in April which left them in an unfamiliar position in the AL table as they lie last. The teams batting was solid with 56 runs scored. The best of them was third year veteran George Wright. Short Stop Wright started all 8 games and had 39 at bats. From this he gained 14 hits, 8 runs and 4 RBI's including 1 home run. This gave him an average of .359 for the month. The pitching is where the team has started badly this season. Cherokee Fishers form at the start of the season has not shown what the fans know he is capable of. He started all 8 games and pitched 71 innings. In this work he gave up 104 hits and 36 earned runs for an ERA of 4.56. The team as a whole gave up 68 runs. The pitching stats for April are The batting stats for April are The Canaries played 8 games in April They started with 4 games against the Philadelphia Athletics. This was shared 2-2. April 1873
1st May 1873 The Reds Stockings form has improved slightly from last season but not as much as the fans were hoping for. The team posted a below average record in April 3-5. This left them in joint 3rd place in the NL table so far. The fans hope that next month will show better form. The batting produced a fine 65 runs during the month. The best of these was Centre Fielder Tim Murnane. Murnane, a veteran in his third season, started all 8 games. In these games he gained a wonderful average of .515 for the month. This was done from 33 at bats with 14 hits, 13 runs, 10 RBI's including 2 home runs. This performance was enough to earn him the Batter of the Month award in the NL. There was also good news for Rookie Henry Austin as he was voted the Rookie of the Month in the NL. He gained a 1.000 average from 1 at bat in 1 game. The pitching was more of a struggle during the month as Bobby Mathews couldn't find his best form. He pitched all 8 games and posted an ERA of 4.70. His work included 53.2 innings pitched, giving up 83 hits and 28 earned runs. The team gave up 91 runs in total during the month. The Red Stockings also suffered a couple of injuries during the month that didn't help the team. They lost Second Baseman Scott Hastings early in the month to an oblique strain that will side line him for 5 weeks. They then lost First Baseman Fraley Rogers late in the month to a torn tendon in his foot. This will keep him out for 4 months. The team recalled Ed Atkinson from the single A Lynchburg Hillcats as a replacement. April 1873
1st May 1873 Brooklyn Atlantic fans are much happier with the start of the 1873 season than they were with last season. The reason for this is that their team has managed to find some form and post a 5-3 record during the month of April. This is good enough to put them joint top of the NL alongside the Chicago White Stockings. The team's batting has found a spark to start the season as they scored 68 runs during the month. The best of the batting came in the form of Star Short Stop Davy Force. Force started all 8 games and had 40 at bats. These at bats produced 14 hits, 7 runs and 5 RBI's. This gave him an average of .350 for the month. The batting was weakened mid month when First Baseman Jim Carleton went down with a strained rib cage for a 1-2 week recovery time. This kept him out of the team for the rest of the month after he was placed on the 15 day DL. Right Fielder Val Robinson was recalled from the single A Great Lakes Loons as his replacement. The pitching was led by new starting pitcher John Greason. This rookie pitcher started all 8 games and showed some solid skills on the mound as he posted an ERA of 3.13. He pitched 60.1 innings to give up 66 hits and 21 earned runs. The team as a whole gave up 53 runs.
