Exactly. That game is the reigning champion of all things sport sim and there is a very large gap between them and the second best sport sim.

But Football Manager is just turning into a 'cash-cow' these days. All you see is 'Match engine fixes and tweaks x300' on their updates and only a handful of actual fixes. They even stated that next years version won't 'revolutionise' in anyway just build on what they have - a clunky game that only works properly for a few leagues each year Don't get my wrong I buy it each year because it is a good soccer sim, the best one! But having no competition makes them lazy I think.

Look at OOTP Baseball it has Baseball Mogul and PureSim to contend with, on a lesser level maybe but still competition and look at all the nice updates we get from Markus and co each year!

Anyway Football! Don't forget the German and Austrian leagues!

I didn't think he was going to develop any more versions in the near future.

Iirc, the game is no longer being worked on full time since Shaun left Wolverine, but there will be updates to the game as freeware.

I think your point still stands: no one is choosing Puresim over OOTP, especially not now. BM I could see drawing in some casual gamers who want to play more quickly without paying high levels of attention to the more esoteric elements of roster management and don't care about customisation. It's an okay game and has come on a lot in the last five or so versions. But I really don't think the threat of existing competitors is what drives OOTP forward...

No offence, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that. Especially for a first version I can't imagine any development time/effort would go into lower tier leagues that would have a pretty niche audience, and I hope it doesn't. From what Francis wrote about the game in other spots I don't believe this was going to be a global fooball game a la FHM. It's an American football sim.

The best you (and all of us really) could hope for is full custmization so you can make these leagues.

Why not release the game with just american leagues, and have the ootp community from the boards create the other leagues as mods?

I hope the game goes back too at least 1946 .

I hope historical players can be used for any season.

Also move teams from year to year and from league to league.

I have -zero- interest in an NFL style 32 team max game(with no possible expansion).

Curling doesn't have a historical mode, sorry.

I won't buy it if it doesn't start at 1920 and has fictional. I will probably also skip version I regardless.

I would like to see Red Grange and Jim Thorpe on the same field as the modern players. Don't know if I would not be interested in any league before WW 2 ,but some of the players would be interesting.

Does CBC(Canada) still show that on a regular basis?

Oh ofcourse! I fully expect, if/when it is announced/released there to be just the NFL present, maybe the NCAA as that is mega popular! I'm not going to start crying if there was no German league for instance. It's taken OOTP 15 versions and they have now just announced the Italian and Dutch league which is great for me

I see at least (4) problems with that:
  1. Each season/league would have to go through QA according to OOTP procedure. That will take time.
  2. America is not the only country that enjoys US-style football, so why segregate the rest of the world-paying customers?
  3. None of the mods would be uploaded at the same time; it would be done piecemeal, or at a random occurrence. Things are done on a schedule.
  4. And, to add to that, they each would have to be coded differently to the core structure, or engine. Not every league plays by the same rules.

These are all true. However, I think a realistic expectation would be just a fully functional NFL-sim game. After all, it took OOTP 15 versions to finally include other international leagues (which not necessarily use the rule that each league uses in the real world), it's a little bit unrealistic to expect real leagues other than NFL in the first version of this football game.

Don't forget 2KSPORTS but their Baseball Game is good for only live Play by Play.

Also that Football League Orlando is in the wrong division it should be in the Southeast.

We had Total Control Football maybe they could bring that game back to live.

Fast Break Basketball is out their.

A football sim that goes all the way back to 1920 would be awesome, but I imagine the obstacles would be daunting. More so than is true with baseball, early football was an entirely different game. It wasn't until 1933, for instance, that forward passes were allowed from anywhere behind the line of scrimmage. And I can only imagine the difficulties in simulating the on-field action. There just aren't many teams out there that still have the flying wedge in their playbooks. Still, I'd definitely buy an OOTP football sim - although, like you, I might wait until version 2 comes out.

There are far too many football sim games that are NFL-style. Very boring.

Custom Leagues would set OOTP apart from all the pretenders. It takes work.

I would rather start with Custom Leagues and later bring in the NFL but that won't happen because it sounds like the game is near completion.
