I still say that was a bull**** call in the bottom of the 6th. (Templeton throws out Trammel.) He was bloody SAFE!
Did they ever issue that ump a seeing-eye dog? *still steamed 28 years later...*

Just saw it. Trammel was a half step by but to be fair, I thought Templeton may have gotten the runner earlier in the inning that was safe - that was a heck of a play.

Unfortunately, it was into the upper deck.

And the fans pour onto the field to celebrate!
It's an unforgettable game for Tigers fans. I can only hope this year will match the incredible feat the '84 boys pulled off. And Chris - I enjoyed the banter back and forth over the game. Always nice to share something great with a friend!

The best 2 hours and 23 minutes I'll spend doing anything this week.
Thanks so much for the link on an off day Randy! Great fun watching that and kabitzing with you.

Quite welcome.
There's plenty of other WS games from the same people, "MLBClassics" that should fill any other off-days. Just wish game 7 of the '68 WS was there. I've never seen the '68 series, would have been nice if it was there. |

Niether have I. I had a casette tape round-up of the season that I bought from the classifieds in The Sporting News some time in the seventies but that's it.

Tonight's game has been postponed due to rain. It will be made up on Thursday, which was originally an off-day for both teams.
Here's the schedule for the next two days: Wednesday: @Nats, 7:05 Eastern. TV: FS-D. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket. Starters Sanchez vs. Zimmerman, pushed back from today's rainout. Thursday: @Nats, 4:05 Eastern. TV: FS-D, MLBN. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket. Starters: Fister (4-0, 2.48) vs. Haren (3-3, 5.08). If you want some baseball, watch game 5 of the 1984 World Series again on Youtube. Or any one of the classic WS events from MLBClassics there.

Nations 3, Tigers 1. [Boxscore]
Summary: Solid game from both teams. Unfortunately, the Tigers came out on the losing end. Pitching: Sanchez was his usual amazing self, but it just wasn't enough! he went 6 innings, surrendering 3 runs on 8 hits (1 HR) and striking out 8. He took the loss, and his record stands at 3-3, 1.97. Ortega and Benoit threw the remaining 2 innings, not permitting a single baserunner and whiffing 2 (both by Benoit). Solid, solid, solid! Unfortunately, so were the Nationals pitching staff. Offense: The Tigers were handcuffed, no two ways about it. Just managing 7 hits and 4 walks, they only managed to get 1 runner across the dish (1-7 RISP). The big guy on offense, if you want to call it that was Peralta, who went 2-3 with a walk. Fielder (7) and Hunter (10) both had doubles. And that's all she wrote, boys. Next game: Thursday, Tigers @ Nationals, 4:05 Eastern. TV: FS-D, MLBN. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket. Starters: Fister (4-0, 2.48) vs. Haren (3-3, 5.08). |

Nationals 5, Tigers 4. [Boxscore]
Summary: Fister's bad outing too much for Tigers to overcome despite rally. Pitching: The usually dependable Fister had an extremely rocky outing this time around, giving up 5 runs (4 earned, thanks to a rare error by Jackson) on 8 hits and a walk in just 3 innings. He absorbed his first loss of the season, standing at 4-1, 3.14 ERA. The bullpen (Downs, Putkonen, Smyly, and Valverde) performed like a pack of all-star studs, permitting just 1 hit and a walk while striking out 5 in 5 innings. They held the line to give the Cats every chance they could. Offense: Well... at least they hit the ball, grabbing 12 hits and a walk against 6 K's. Unfortunately, they couldn't string them together properly. The big highlight was Matt Tuiasosopo's pinch-hit 3-run jack (2) that put them within a run of tying the game. After that... rats. Outside of that, Infante had the best game, going 3-4 (all singles), and Jackson added his 7th double of the season as he went 1-5 (2 whiffs). They sure made it exciting when Miggy got on base with a nice 2-out opposite-field single in the 9th, bringing up The Prince. Boom, long, long, long drive to center... warning track... caught. Dang. Close, but no cigar.Good game, pity they dropped it. Next game: Friday, Indians @ Tigers, 7:08 Eastern. TV: FS-D+ (due to Wings playoff game). Radio: WXYT 1270. Projected starters: Kluber (2-1 3.06) vs. Scherzer (4-0, 3.43) Last edited by RandyTiger; 05-09-2013 at 08:38 PM. |
