Off Season begins

I have updated the Almanac thread with the final summary of the 1900 season as well as end of season rosters/finances.

Records have also been updated in the Almanac thread. (Link in my sig)

Next I will adjust contract lengths, release fighters whose contracts have expired, adjust finances for the start of 1901 season and publish the 1901 Free Agent pool with the 15 rookies added.

Once I have this done you can make arena upgrades/downgrades, release any fighters still under long term contract. (remember this comes with a penalty = to half their yearly salary) Deadline for this is Friday and we will then start the auction for the 1901 season next weekend.

1901 Preseason

1901 Preseason rosters are updated in post 2 (Link in my sig)

The Balance is how much money you have for the upcoming auction and any trades. Active contracts have been reduced 1 year and Arena maintenance fees applied.

Reminder on rule changes for 1901

You now have a reserve spot on the roster since we will be incorporating injuries. You can place a fighter already under contract in this slot or place one of your new signings as a reserve. They will only fight in team matches if an active fighter is hurt.

Trades will now be in play for the 1901 season. The trading period will run from the completion of the auction through round 8. Money can be used in trades.

Topper rights - Any free agent who was on a team last season is considered a restricted free agency and his prior team will have the right to retain him by topping his winning bid (salary) by $1 if he is won by another team in the auction.

PM me by this coming Friday if you wish to upgrade/downgrade arena size or release any fighters still under contract. (50% salary penalty applies)

List of Free agents for the auction this coming weekend has been posted in the League auction thread.

Just want to add real quick, if you release a fighter still under contract you do not retain topper rights and he will be an unrestricted free agent and marked by a (U) next to last years team name.

Probably not a big deal since if he was wanted he would not be released, but wanted to clarify before we got too far into the pre-season stuff.

If you are not going to make any moves to your current set up/roster, you can also submit your first round auction bids now if you like. I will keep them safe until Saturday

Figures I would have my worse match of the year on the most important one.

The top six teams were all with in a game and a half of each other. Pretty Cool.

Congrats to Bear.

Also a huge thanks to Lee for doing a great job with the league and sparking my interest back in the game after this long long wait for the new version.

1901 rosters updated

Hi all,

The finals rosters for 1901 are updated in post 2, so we are ready to get underway. Please submit your lineups by midnight tomorrow, if I do not get a lineup for the opening 2 rounds by the time we are ready to start I will use the order the fighters are listed on your roster.

Just a reminder on the new rules on Random events and trades.

Trades must be for an equal number of fighters (1 for 1, 2 for 2, etc) but can also include cash.

Reserve fighters - They will fight 1 fight each round against a can to build their records. You can only activate a reserve fighter if one of your starting 5 is lost to injury or other event, or if a reserve fighter is traded he can be activated as a starter on his new team. These are the only two scenarios you can activate a reserve fighter. Once the fighter being replaced by the reserve returns, the reserve fighter is returned to the reserve slot.

Finally, I got a new computer last week and TBCB and all the WTB files are safely transferred over, but I am having issues getting email files over due to compatibility issues, so my computer guy will be possibly taking my computers tomorrow if he can't figure it our here. The 1901 season will start ASAP once I get this resolved. I am hoping it is an easy fix and I can start Saturday or Sunday.

Moment of the Match

One couldn't have asked for a more explosive start to the 1901 season as the defending League Champs ventured to Hebron. The crowd was in high spirits after knockouts in the first 2 bouts and was eager to see rookie Sam Langford, holder of the richest contract in the history of WTB. The powerful newcomer did not disappoint, dominating the wily Mervine Thompson and punctuating his first career win with two 3rd round knockdowns. The performance left the home crowd delirious and ensured that Herbie Hide would have to knockout Altus Allen in the final bout to salvage a tie for Bears Unstable, which he was unable to do as Hebron starts the new campaign with the win.

Moment of the Match

It wasn't the big guns Walcott and WTB Champ John Henry Lewis that carried this one, as both had to work to earn close decisions. Instead it was a controversial rookie and an overmatched underdog that propelled Ice Tea to a season opening win. Dereck Chisora was lightly regarded and much maligned for his out of the ring antics, but took it to fellow newcomer Greg Page for 3 rounds. Chisora bullied and smothered Page, who never could establish an effective distance to box and looked frustrated and demoralized as the final bell rang. As the decision was announced Chisora spit at Page and left the ring defiantly. The capper came when Quezada upset Nebraska anchor man Corrie Sanders, who appeared to be whoafully out of shape and was sluggish throughout their fight.

Moment of the Match

Not a much in terms of excitement in this one as two of the best fighters in the League, Gibbons and Sullivan, both struggled to win. In fact the Gibbons decision brought boos from the home crowd! By default the moment of the match belongs to Lorenzo Zanon. With his team up 6-5 entering the final round of his bout with Bob Dunlap, Zanon came alive. Fighting with a purpose yet to be shown on this card, Zanon tore into Dunlap early in the 3rd round and kept the pressure up to insure a winning start to the 1901 season for his side.

Moment of the Match

If Louisville is to turn their fortunes around this season, it has to start with one man and tonight that man provided that start. Fighting against Primo Carnera, a dangerous, hulking rookie, Archie Moore was near flawless. Exhibiting the boxing prowess that enticed Louisville to spend a then record $18 per year on him, Moore peppered Carnera, turning his left eye into a swollen mess and snapping his head back as though it was on a swivel for three rounds. The Clays were competitive through every bout and this sure to spur local interest when they open at home in round three.

That was a nice surprise. I expected to see Langford get knocked around as a beginner.
