Bantamweights Second Round
Tim Austin 18-2 (9) vs Johnny King 17-4 (9)
The first six rounds featured King scoring with lead right hands while Austin focused on a body attack to try and slow down the fleet feet of the Brit. Round seven was a brawl, Tim hurt him early with an uppercut and unloaded on Johnny along the ropes until King responded in the final half minute with a series of right hands that had Austin covering up. Tim was having a huge tenth round with left hands to the chin and hooks to the body when a counter right from King dropped him for a seven count in the closing seconds of the round. After two tight finishing rounds, the knock down provided the margin for Johnny's upset MD win. 115-112, 114-113 & 114-114 Carlos Zarate 38-2 (32) vs Julian Solis 16-3-2 (1) Solis provided a worthy opponent with his movement and defense, but Zarate's aggression carried much of the bout until he ended matters with a crushing hook late in round ten. Eder Jofre 39-1 (26) vs Boots Monroe 13-8 (4) Jofre was way too much for Monroe, Boots exhibited tremendous courage under the Brazilians relentless assault; but Eder's precision punching was too much and he dropped Monroe late in the fourth with a 3 punch combo and iced him early in the fifth with a pulverizing right hand. Panama Al Brown 41-2-3 (25) vs Sirimongkol Singmanasak 30-25-6 (11) Brown scored an early knock down with a right hand in round three and his skills were too much for the Thai fighter throughout, despite a swollen and cut right eye Brown stayed the course and won a comprehensive UD. 119-109 & 118-110 x2 George Dixon 36-3-1 (12) vs Luis Romero 15-5-1 (7) Dixon picked Romero apart, busting open his mouth, closing his right eye and flooring him with a right hand in round ten en route to the dominant UD victory. 119-107 x2 & 118-108 Jeff Chandler 20-0 (15) vs Raul Macias 11-7-3 (3) Jeff used his jab and right hand to completely dominate Macias for virtually the entire contest, he busted open his nose, puffed up both eyes and dropped Macias for a short count in round ten with a right hand on the way to a convincing UD. 119-107, 119-108 & 118-108 Ruben Olivares 37-2-1 (33) vs Robert Cohen 11-8-2 (3) Cohen was unwilling to engage with the powerful Mexican and it served up a less than compelling bout. Ruben was able to drop Robert in the fourth and eleventh rounds and the lopsided contest was stopped early in round twelve. Paulie Ayala 38-2 (12) vs Elley Bennett 14-7 (6) Rematch: Ayala TKO3 Not the most entertaining affair, but paulie was more active and he floored the Aussie late in round ten with a combo to affirm his dominance and take the UD. 117-110, 117-112 & 114-113(LOL).

Memphis Pal Moore 19-0-1 (3) vs Casper Leon 15-3-3 (5)
Leon started very well, in particularly in round three when he hammered Moore to the body with hooks and snapped back his head with uppercuts. Memphis stormed back in the second half of the fight, hurting Leon several times with right hands that also opened a nasty cut over his left eye, while his jab had severe distention on Casper’s right eye. It was just enough and Memphis advanced in a great fight by SD. 116-113 x2 & 114-115 Sixto Escobar 20-0 (3) vs Teddy Baldock 16-5 (3) Escobar flashed his defensive brilliance and peppered the Brit with stiff jabs and sharp counters on his way to the comprehensive UD win. 118-109 x2 & 117-110 Rafael Marquez 53-5-2 (39) vs Bernardo Pinango 22-17-2 (11) Rafa’s precision punching was too much for Pinango, he dropped him at the bell ending round two with a right hand, again early in the fourth with a three punch combination and he put him down for the count later in the fourth with a searing left hook. Fernando Gagnon 19-1 (9) vs Johnny Clark 14-5-2 (10) This was a very tight contest in the early going and Johnny dropped the Canadian late in round six with a right hand flush on the chin. Gagnon started to swell up Clark’s left eye with right hands of his own and in the tenth he put him on the canvas twice with his right hand and took the UD. 115-110, 116-112 & 114-111 Vic Foley 16-3-1 (7) vs Ernie Cataluna 13-7-1 (6) Foley took advantage of a favorable draw and dominated the game Filipino from the opening bell, his combinations took greater affect as the fight wore on and Vic dropped him late in the tenth with a hook before icing Cataluna early in round eleven with a 3 punch combo. (WBO) Joseph Agbeko 19-0-1 (11) vs Fili Nava 24-14-3 (4) Agbeko had the best of the early going and his jabs and hooks turned Nava’s right eye into a gruesome mess of swelling and blood by the end of round six. That didn’t prevent the Mexican from rallying as he drove hooks to the body and head of the champion over the next several rounds. Joseph hurt him with two right hands in round eleven and that helped him to take the tough MD. 116-112, 115-114 & 114-114 Lou Salica 17-0-3 (4) vs Tommy Forte 15-6 (5) Another highly competitive bout saw Forte cut Salica’s over the left eye with a right hand in the second and he hurt him with the same shot in round five. Lou came on in the second half and he busted open Forte’s nose in round eight. They traded liberally down the stretch and Forte ended up with the upset SD. 115-114 x2 & 114-115 Ratanatchai Sor Vorapin 35-6-2 (21) vs Rodolfo Martinez 14-7 (5) Just .36 seconds into the fight Martinez unloaded a hook to the family jewels and the ref exhibited a tremendously quick trigger finger by immediately disqualifying the Mexican.

Bantamweights Second Round
Owen Moran 29-8-3 (13) vs Freddie Gilroy 18-3 (8)
After a strong opening round from Gilroy, Moran ripped into him with a relentless assault beginning in round two that left Freddie with a busted mouth, split open forehead and a badly swollen left eye by the fifth round, that disfigurement coupled with a knockdown from a huge right hand forced the ref to step in midway through that stanza. Midget Wolgast 41-4-1 (12) vs Tancy Lee 15-6 (5) Midget’s jab opened a bad cut over the right eye in round two and he dropped Lee in the fourth with a short hook to the temple. The bout was never competitive and the wound led to a stoppage in round seven. Frankie Genaro 34-6-3 (5) vs Alfonso Zamora 17-3-1 (14) Genaro showed his class in the first two rounds as he eluded Zamora’s bombs and peppered him with crisp counters. Round three went just as well for two minutes and fifty seconds, and then Alfonso ripped a vicious hook to the body that put Genaro down for a nine count. Frankie never really got his legs back and Zamora closed up his right eye until he split it wide open during a barrage of shots late in round nine that led to the referee calling a halt. Veeraphol Sahaprom 18-2 (8) vs Miguel Lora 16-3-2 (9) This was a violent, and even, bout that saw them both endure swelling all around their right eyes as both men landed their left hands almost at will. Sahaprom rocked Miguel in the fourth with a nasty uppercut and hammered along the ropes for the final half minute. Lora began to really strafe the Thai fighter with nasty combos over the final minute of round eight and he dropped him early in the ninth with a double hook, the follow up flurry caused the ref to step in. Luis Perez 37-6 (24) vs Charles LeDoux 16-3-2 (11) The Frenchman dominated Perez from the outset and a series of pulverizing right hands in round four led to the TKO victory. Terry McGovern 36-4 (25) vs Bobby Green 10-9-3 (3) Green fought a spoiling type fight as he refused to engage with McGovern and while it drew the ire of the fans, it allowed him to keep the fight close. Terry’s pressure increased and he was in control when he dropped Bobby twice in round eleven, the second time foe the ten count. Mark Johnson 56-7-2 (31) vs Roger Gonzalez 17-4 (9) Gonzalez banged well on the inside over the first three rounds and uppercuts drew swelling from Johnson’s left eye. Then early in round four, Too sharp caught him with a strong left hand and followed up with a dazzling three punch combo that put Roger down for the count. Lupe Pintor 34-4-2 (27) vs Raul Perez 42-18-1 (30) A nice back and forth battle between two proud Mexicans produced a lot of fireworks early, especially in the fifth round when they traded brutal power shots for the full three minutes. Pintor’s body work began to pay off late and he floored Raul with a hook in round ten and closed strong to take the UD. 116-111, 116-112 & 114-113

Bantamweights Second Round
(WBA) David Kui Kong Young 17-3 (7) vs Joe Burman 14-6-1 (2)
Most every round was tight as Burman danced and jabbed while the champion pressed the issue. When the rounds weren't close it was because David landed some powerful hooks to the head and body and those few dominant rounds and being the aggressor throughout led Kui Kong Young to the UD. 147-141 & 146-142 x2 Bud Taylor 18-1-1 (3) vs Charley Phil Rosenberg 15-5-1 (3) Rosenberg used a hard left jab to build up points and open a nasty gash on Bud's right eyebrow by round three, as the fight progressed severe swelling on the same eye turned it into a grotesque site and that caused the stoppage in round seven. Jeff Fenech 65-12-3 (41) vs Anselmo Moreno 18-3-1 (5) Fenech opened up with his typically relentless attacking style and he slammed hard shots to Moreno's body and head during a dominant opening round. Jeff continued to pile up points as Anselmo fought defensively until the sixth when Fenech walked into a sweeping uppercut that buckled his legs, Moreno unloaded with both hands and was blasting the Aussie's head back with snapping shots when the ref stepped in and produced a shocking result. Newsboy Brown 33-7-3 (5) vs Abner Mares 31-8-2 (18) Mares imposed his size on Brown with rough in-fighting and vicious hooks to the head and body. A sharp counter right opened a cut over Abner's left eye in round three and it bled the rest of the way. That didn't deter mares and he continued to grind out Newsboy inside and fight through beautiful combinations from his rival to take the highly entertaining UD. 118-111 & 117-112 x2 Eddie Campi 16-4 (2) vs Harold Petty 16-4-1 (6) Harold got the best of the first three rounds with sharp combinations that had Eddie back on his heels. That changed early in round four when Campi landed a hook flush on the chin that dropped Petty for a four count, he couldn't finish him but Campi maintained the momentum and he opened a nasty cut over Petty's right eye in round six. Just when things looked bleak, Petty turned it on down the stretch and floored campi with a straight left in round eleven en route to sweeping the final four rounds to take the tough UD. 115-112 & 114-112 x2 Orlando Canizales 36-3-1 (20) vs Jimmy Carruthers 19-2 (10) This was a nice tactical battle early, but the Australian turned it all his way in the second half of the fight; busting open Orlando's nose with his jab and keeping that stick working overtime. He even floored an off balanced Canizales with a right hand late in round twelve to put the icing on his UD. 120-109, 119-111 & 118-111 Kid Williams 17-2-1 (6) vs Pete Sanstol 16-4-1 (7) Not the most exciting bout, but it wasn't for the lack of punching. Both combatants exhibited tremendous defense along the way and it was Williams who was able to find a home for enough right hands to take the UD. Baltazar Sangchili 17-1-2 (4) vs Jung-II Byun 14-6-1 (7) Baltazar, perhaps Spain's greatest fighter, really struggled to figure out the awkward Byun early on, but by round five he was putting together his combinations beautifully and looked to secure a convincing win. The first judge scored it 115-113 for Jung-II, luckily sanity prevailed with the other two and Sangchili took the SD. 117-111 & 116-112

Bantamweights Second Round
Carl Tremaine 16-4 (7) vs Richie Sandoval 11-9-1 (3)
Tremaine got his combinations working early and Sandoval never really got rolling as the Canadian banked round after round until he hurt Richie with a vicious uppercut in round nine and launched a flurry that prompted what may have been a premature stoppage, but Tremaine was dominating anyway. Jose Becerra 17-2-1 (13) vs Raul Casanova 17-3-1 (10) They traded bombs over the first four rounds, but Becerra's carried more pop and that was even more evident when he floored Raul with a hook during an exchange early in round five, Casanova was up at four and Jose tore into him with both hands until a devastating uppercut flattened Raul for the count. Alberto Sandoval 17-2-2 (9) vs Lionel Rose 12-8-1 (3) Rematch: Sandoval SD10 There was no surprises in this rematch and both fought a great fight, alternating rounds with Sandoval scoring with hard combinations and Lionel peppering him with speed during his better rounds. Things couldn't have been tighter when Alberto connected with a single hook to the temple that put Rose down for the count in round ten. Johnny Carter 19-2 (8) vs Walter McGowan 33-9-1 (9) Walter thwarted Johnny's speed with an accurate jab and body attack in the early going before flooring him in the seventh and tenth and taking the surprisingly lopsided UD. 118-108 x2 & 117-109 Harry Harris 17-3-1 (6) vs Chris Avalos 13-7-1 (8) The massive underdog, Avalos, put forth a tremendous effort; especially in the seventh and eighth rounds when he overwhelmed Harry along the ropes with a furious attack. Harris pulled it together down the stretch and scored knockdowns in the tenth and eleventh to secure the tougher than expected UD. 116-110 & 115-111 x2 Billy Plimmer 18-2-1 (4) vs Chuco Castillo 13-7-1 (3) They set the tone for a grueling and rough inside bout when they traded brutal body shots and uppercuts during a fierce opening frame (17-15). The pace slowed from there but the fouling did not and after several warnings Plimmer was disqualified in the final round for a blatant low blow that came moments after a clash of heads left him with a nasty gash over his left eye. Too bad he couldn't keep his cool because it was an even round to that point and Billy was up 3 & 1 and down 1 on the cards. Julio Gamboa 29-10-2 (13) vs Joe Lynch 15-5-2 (6) Gamboa was game, but he was never in it as Lynch out-classed him with non-stop right hands that closed his left eye and floored him twice as Joe rolled to the UD. 120-106, 120-107 & 119-107 Pete Herman 18-3 (4) vs James Pipps 22-17-3 (12) Pipps was another decided underdog, but, after dropping the first three rounds to the fleet footed Herman, James started scoring with his vaunted left hook and got Pete in trouble a couple times before Herman fired sharp one-twos to dominate down the stretch and earn the MD. 116-112, 115-113 & 114-114

Bantamweights Second Round
Mbulelo Botile 13-7-1 (8) vs (IBO) Noel Wilders 15-5-1 (5)
Wilders was a decided underdog, but his spoiling style frustrated Botile as Noel took an early lead. As the fight progressed and Wilders slowed down, Botile began to catch him with right hands to the head and body and he closed very strong to earn the UD. 116-112, 116-113 & 115-114 (WBC) Toshiaki Nishioka 48-9-4 (20) vs Alphonse Halimi 13-7-1 (6) The Frenchman was surprisingly dominant, peppering the champion with clean one-twos that brought swelling to both of his eyes and Halimi took the UD with a masterful Boxing display. 118-109 x2 & 116-111 Wladimir Sidorenko 11-9-1 (1) vs Johnny Buff 32-5-6 (11) Buff used his educated jab to bust open Sidorenko's lip and swell up his right eye on the way to a dull, but, unanimous decision. 117-113 x3 Young Tommy 19-2 (6) vs Daniel Zaragoza 33-7-1 (19) Tommy dropped Daniel late in round one with a counter hook and opened a gash under his right eye in round two. Several momentum swings occurred from there including the Mouse dominating the final three rounds with punishing left hands that nearly closed Tommy's right eye and the judges came up with the first draw of round two. 114-112, 111-115 & 113-113 Hogan Bassey 33-5-3 (14) vs Fernando Montiel 59-11-1 (37) After decidedly losing the first two rounds, Montiel began to crank up his powerful hooks and Bassey had severe swelling around his right eye heading into the sixth round. Fernando opened that stanza with a nasty three punch combo and hammered Hogan until the referee had seen enough and called a halt. Junior Jones 36-3-2 (24) vs Yonnhy Perez 17-4 (9) This highly anticipated bout turned into a massacre as Junior Jones showed off his offensive prowess and Perez exhibited a ridiculous chin. By the end of round three, Yonnhy already had a severely swollen left eye and Junior continued to batter him, well past a point where the ref should have allowed it, until he finally floored him late in round nine with a right hand and finished the job in the tenth with yet another barrage of blows. Louis Galvani 17-3-1 (7) vs Cristian Mijares 29-9-4 (3) Galvani opened a cut over Mijares right eye with a right hand early in the opening stanza. While the action was competitive, the blood flow never ceased and after it worsened in round four Galvani was awarded the TKO victory. Thanomchit Sukothai 16-3-2 (6) vs Little Dado 31-10-2 (11) Sukothai's right hand was the decisive blow in this contest. Dado had moments where he dazzled with speedy combinations, but eventually powerful right hands slowed his roll; especially in round eleven when Thanomchit brutalized him for three minutes, including a late knockdown in a ridiculously one sided round(41-3). All that was enough for Sukothai to take the UD. 118-110, 117-111 & 116-111

Bantamweights Second Round
Gerry Penalosa 47-13-3 (24) vs Bernardo Caraballo 16-3-2 (7)
Rematch: Penalosa TKO10 Caraballo completely turned things around, rocking Gerry early and often with hard right hands that had his left eye rapidly swelling by the end of round four. A murderous lead right floored penalosa in the fifth for a six count and Bernardo absolutely dominated this fight to a shockingly wide UD. 120-108 & 120-109 x2 Chan-Yong Park 12-8-1 (2) vs Rafael Herrera 15-4-2 (2) Herrera used his considerable skills to carve up Park with sharp combinations, including dropping him with a counter hook in rounds even, on the way to a solid UD victory. 117-110, 116-111 & 116-112 Hozumi Hasegawa 34-7 (8) vs Sasha Bakhtin 11-9-1 (4) An explosive opening round that saw both men seriously hurt things settled down into a more tactical affair that Hasegawa was able to edge by MD on the basis of a few hard left hands down the stretch. 116-114 x2 & 115-115 Johnny Coulon 18-3 (5) vs Jimmy Walsh 15-4-2 (2) This was mainly a jabbing contest, but Coulon broke it open over the last two rounds with some hard right hands that had Jimmy in a totally defensive posture and Johnny advanced via UD. 116-112, 116-114 & 115-113 Agustin Senin 16-3-2 (8) vs Archie Bell 12-7-3 (1) Senin was too much for bell, he out-boxed him from range and outfought him in tight and that carried him to the clear UD. 119-109, 118-110 & 117-111 Koki Kameda 59-7-1 (36) vs Jorge Elicier Julio 19-2 (11) Kameda put on a stunning performance, drilling Julio with a right hand, a body combo followed by an uppercut to the chin and a right hand flush on the jaw that put Julio down for the count just inside of a minute into the fight. Sung Kil Moon 36-9 (21) vs Jose Medel 17-4 (7) This was another even looking match up on paper that didn't turn out that way in the ring, Medel's right hand was locked in from the opening bell and he dominated the first five rounds. Moon had better moments in the second half of the fight, but nothing close to overcoming Jose and Medel took the UD. 118-110, 117-111 & 116-112 Al Delmont 16-2-3 (4) vs Nipper Pat Daly 16-5 (3) Daly got the better of the early rounds and he opened a bad cut over Al's right eye in round four. By the middle rounds things were tighter as Delmont found the going better on the inside, but Daly had a huge round nine when he tagged his rival with clean right hands. Al closed in a frenzy and he dropped Nipper with a hook late in the final round, but it left him just short and Daly took the UD. 116-111 & 114-113 x2

Bantamweights Second Round
Rematch:
Young Tommy 19-2-1 (6) vs Daniel Zaragoza 33-7-2 (19) This was another nip and tuck affair that saw Tommy use his jab and movement to frustrate the Mouse while Zaragoza bored inside and banged the body while landing hard left hands to the head that brought swelling to the Filipino's right eye. Nobody really had an advantage until the final three rounds when Daniel completely out-worked his fading rival and advanced with a tight UD. 115-113 x2 & 115-114

Bantamweights Third Round
(IBF) Fighting Harada 62-3 (34) vs Nipper Pat Daly 17-5 (3)
Rematch: Harada UD10 Harada was just too strong for the kid, following up crisp jabs with booming hooks and right hands that had his left eye closing and his right eye spurting blood when the referee stopped the one sided contest during the seventh round. Alan Rudkin 18-4-1 (2) vs Jose Medel 18-4 (7) Medel opened strong with powerful right hands and uppercuts that garnered him the first three rounds and left the Brit with a busted lip and swollen left eye. Rudkin started working his one-twos and incorporating some movement that threw off the Mexicans offense. In round five Rudkin staggered with a right hand two minutes in and battered Medel along the ropes with a flurry of blows to close the round. They traded heavily in the sixth and Medel stunned Rudkin with a right hand early on only to have the favor returned when the Englishman connected with a beautiful double hook late in the action packed round. Rudkin's jabs and hooks dominated the seventh round and a searing hook opened a nasty gash over Medel's right eye just before the bell. Jose turned it around with a murderous right hand in the eighth and they fought tightly down the stretch leading to what seemed like a pretty fair draw. 115-113, 113-115 & 114-114 Daorung Chuvatana 19-3 (8) vs Koki Kameda 60-7-1 (37) I don't know if there was a let down from the big win over Nonito Donaire or if it was just a style thing, but Chuvatana had nothing for Kameda. Koki fought brilliantly, using nice footwork and powerful lead right hands to dominate Daorung early, shrug off a brief mid-round rally, and hammer him down the stretch with power shots for the impressive UD. 117-110 x3 Franco Zurlo 14-7-1 (4) vs Agustin Senin 17-3-2 (8) This was a very tight, technical, battle of European fighters that didn't have many momentum switches. Senin momentarily stunned Franco with a n uppercut in round four and Zurlo dominated the eighth with combination punching. Other than that there was a lot of jabs and difficult rounds to score. When the judges convened, Zurlo had consolidated his upset over Jimmy Barry with another one via SD. 116-112, 113-115 & 115-113

Bantamweights Third Round
Fidel LaBarba 71-8-4 (17) vs Johnny Coulon 19-3 (5)
The first punch Johnny landed was a stiff jab that opened a bad cut under LaBarba's right eye, Coulon continued to score with that punch while Fidel worked the body in what was a fairly even round until a 3 punch combo rocked LaBarba in the final ten seconds. They immediately got the cut under control but Coulon still scored well with his jab and right hand until the sixth round when Fidel started smothering him and taking away the jab, it didn't make for exciting action but LaBarba completely stifled his foe in the second half of the bout and took the UD. 118-112, 116-112 & 116-113 Wilfredo Gomez 70-10-1 (54) vs Hozumi Hasegawa 35-7 (8) Rematch: Gomez UD12 Hasegawa fought a completely defensive fight against his powerful rival and it looked like he might last the distance for a second time, but Wilfredo floored him with a combo late in round ten and dropped him again in the eleventh and twice in the twelfth; the last time for the count courtesy of a vicious hook. Jesus Pimentel 18-3 (11) vs Rafael Herrera 16-4-2 (2) Pimentel pressed the issue and had early success with hooks downstairs and to the head while Rafael countered with heavy hooks and uppercuts that started to take their toll and Herrera exploded off the ropes in round eight with a 4 punch combo that was punctuated with an uppercut that crashed into Jesus' chin and put him face first for the ten count. Manuel Ortiz 36-5 (18) vs Bernardo Caraballo 17-3-2 (7) After an uneventful opening round, Ortiz landed a hard right hand that dropped Caraballo early in the second for a seven count and he continued to hammer him until another thunderous right hand put him flat on his back for the ten count.

Bantamweights Third Round
Johnny King 18-4 (9) vs Thanomchit Sukothai 17-3-2 (6)
This was a very entertaining scrap, with both guys landing heavy stuff. King, however, was always one step ahead of his game rival and he dropped him with a pinpoint left hook in round six and continuously out punched Sukothai in elongated trades to advance with the impressive UD. 118-109 x3 Carlos Zarate 39-2 (33) vs Luis Galvani 18-3-1 (8) Zarate dropped Luis late in the first with an uppercut and early in the second with a short hook and the fight looked like it would be over in a hurry. That wasn't the case as the Cuban exhibited as much courage as the referee did poor judgement, six more knockdowns followed and somehow Luis survived to hear one of the most lopsided UD's you'll ever see. 119-100, 118-101 & 117-102 Eder Jofre 40-1 (27) vs Junior Jones 37-3-2 (25) Jones gave Jofre some problems in the first round with long jabs and a few clean right hands while the Brazilian mainly scored to the body. Eder started connecting with jarring left hooks in the second and third and he dropped Junior for a six count in round four with a nasty uppercut. Jones shocked his rival early in the fifth when he rebounded and sent Jofre down hard with two right hands flush on the chin and he carried the rest of the round with hard one-twos. They traded liberally in the sixth on even terms until Jofre staggered him late with two nasty hooks to the head. Poison continued his surprising showing in the seventh when he stood to to toe with the defending tournament champion and may have even garnered a slight edge with a late three punch combo that sent sweat flying from the Brazilians head. After two close rounds Jones began to tire and Eder took over, flooring him once each in rounds ten and eleven before scoring three knockdowns in round twelve for the automatic stoppage. Panama Al Brown 42-2-3 (25) vs Fernando Montiel 60-11-1 (38) Most expected fireworks but after coming out on the short end of some heavy trades in the opening round Fernando used his legs to frustrate Brown and the crowd. Panama still maintained control behind his jab with the exception of some good work in the ninth and tenth that opened a cut on Al's right eye. It wasn't nearly enough and Brown advanced with the MD. 118-112, 117-113 & a bizarre 116-116

Bantamweights Third Round
George Dixon 37-3-1 (12) vs Daniel Zaragoza 34-7-2 (19)
Little Chocolate just had too many tools for the tough Mexican and he controlled the majority of the rounds with hard jabs and winging right hands while Zaragoza occasionally got inside and banged the body well. Shockingly the decision for Dixon was split, but the right guy won. 117-111, 113-115 & 116-113 Jeff Chandler 21-0 (15) vs Johnny Buff 33-5-6 (11) Buff was able to frustrate Jeff early with some hit and run tactics, but Chandler rocked him early in the fourth with a right hand and he unloaded with both hands; busting open Buff's right eye with a hook before digging two vicious hooks to the body and dropping a right hand flush on the chin that put Johnny down for the count. Ruben Olivares 38-2-1 (34) vs (WBC) Alphonse Halimi 14-7-1 (6) Olivares worked his way in tight and banged the body while Halimi mainly used his jab in the first three rounds. Ruben opened a nasty gash over the champions left eye with a right hand in the fourth and he staggered him with a hook late in the round. A lead right and an uppercut widened the already ugly wound early in the fifth and the ref and doctor decided to call a halt. Paulie Ayala 39-2 (12) vs (IBO) Mbulelo Botile 14-7-1 (8) Ayala boxed circles around the champion in the opening round with deft movement and speedy combinations. In the second and third rounds, Botile scored heavily with his right hand and he drew severe swelling from the challengers left eye and staggered him badly with an uppercut late in round three. After a close fourth, Mbulelo hurt him again with two right hands in the fifth and carried the sixth with some heavy body shots. Paulie came on in the seventh and eighth with a series of jabs and nice left hands behind it. Ayala's jabs puffed up the champs left eye in the ninth and he continued to land straight lefts behind it. Round ten was closer as Botile scored with some right hands to get himself back in play. With things in the balance, Botile was very aggressive in the final two rounds and his right hand was dialed in on Ayala's closing left eye and the underdog champion retained his belt with a tight UD. 115-113 & 115-114 x2

Bantamweights Third Round
Memphis Pal Moore 20-0-1 (3) vs Pete Herman 19-3 (4)
Herman's jab was working overtime from the outset of the contest, it drew swelling around Moore's right eye by the end of round four and while Memphis had some successful moments, Herman was always in control and he took the UD. 118-110 x2 & 117-111 Sixto Escobar 21-0 (3) vs Joe Lynch 16-5-2 (6) Escobar put all of his skills on display, pounding Lynch with nasty combos that closed hie right eye and Sixto's tremendous defense kept the Americans offense completely at bay before a hook finally dropped Joe in round eleven and a follow up barrage forced the ref to intervene. Rafael Marquez 54-5-2 (40) vs Chuco Castillo 14-7-1 (3) Castillo dominated the first two rounds with free flowing combos and he buckled Rafa's legs late in the second with a sharp right hand. Chuco came out strong in the third and he rocked marquez with a short hook before Rafael stormed back with precision right hands and uppercuts that led to them slugging non-stop over the final forty seconds of an amazing round (19-17). They battled evenly in tight over the next six minutes but Marquez got the best of some heated exchanges in the sixth round and he staggered Chuco late with a huge right hand. Rafa's jab started some swelling on Castillo's right eye in round seven and Marquez carried that round and much of round eight until a Castillo connected with a wild overhand right that put his rival on the deck on for a count of four late in a stanza that marquez had completely in control. They continued in tightly contested rounds until Marquez took over in the final two with punishing combinations that had Castillo in retreat. However, the judges gave the UD to Chuco 116-112, 116-114 & 115-113 Fernando Gagnon 20-1 (9) vs Harry Harris 18-3-1 (6) Gagnon's aggression served him well in the first two rounds as he landed hard hooks to the body and head, Harris stemmed the momentum in the third when he drilled the Canadian with a series of counter hooks that immediately ballooned Fernando's right eye. Gagnon never stopped pressing and he had his moments, but his badly damaged eye left a target for Harris' jabs and hooks that led him to the UD victory. 116-112 x2 & 115-114

Bantamweights Third Round
Vic Foley 17-3-1 (8) vs Walter McGowan 34-9-1 (9)
These two mirrored each other, including both suffering cuts over their left eyes. The action wasn't furious, but it was highly competitive as they fired out jabs and right hands in equal frequency. Walter landed a hard hook that staggered Foley in the final thirty seconds of the fight and the follow up barrage secured the final round and the SD. 116-112, 113-116 & 115-113 (WBO) Joseph Agbeko 20-0-1 (11) vs Alberto Sandoval 18-2-2 (10) Alberto boxed brilliantly in the first two rounds before Agbeko started imposing his size and scoring well to the body. In the sixth Superfly hurt the champion on four occasions with clean right hands and only Agbeko's chin kept him upright (4-31). Those same right hands sent the champ back to his corner after round seven with a badly swollen left eye. Alberto was taking it to him again in round eight when Agbeko stormed back with violent right hands to the head and body and they went toe to toe for almost the entire 3 minutes (19-18). The comeback was short lived and the faster sandoval went back to beating Joseph to the punch and he emerged with the UD and the belt, 116-111 x2 & 115-112 Tommy Forte 16-6 (5) vs Jose Becerra 18-2-1 (14) This was a rough inside battle, Forte was a bit more active but Jose landed the harder stuff; he dropped Tommy in the second with an uppercut and had both of his eyes badly swollen by the midway point of the fight. Forte refused to cave and he rallied late, but it wasn't enough and Becerra took the UD. 118-110, 115-112 & 115-113 Ratanachai Sor Vorapin 36-6-2 (21) vs Carl Tremaine 17-4 (8) Tremaine controlled the majority of the action, including flooring the Thai fighter in the sixth with a 3 punch combo, and he outworked Sor Vorapin to the wide UD. 117-111 & 116-111 x2

Bantamweights Third Round
Owen Moran 30-8-3 (14) vs Baltazar Sangchili 18-1-2 (4)
After two slow rounds, Sangchili opened a bad cut over Owen's left eye with a dazzling four punch combo late in round three. Moran's corner struggled to handle the wound, but the Englishman stormed out of his corner and hammered Baltazar all over the ring until a booming over hand right crashed into Sangchili's chin and put him down for the count. Midget Wolgast 42-4-1 (13) vs Kid Williams 18-2-1 (6) Williams right hand brought early swelling from Wolgast's left eye but Midget turned things around when he floored Kid with a beautiful combo late in the fifth for a nine count. As the bout progressed Midget was able to back up Williams and land the surprisingly more powerful blows on the way to the tight UD. 116-113 & 115-113 x2 Alfonso Zamora 18-3-1 (15) vs Jimmy Carruthers 20-2 (10) In a bizarre turn of events, Carruthers fought off the more active Mexican in the early going when he floored him with counter hooks in rounds two and four. Alfonso continued pressing the action and he opened a nasty gash over the Australians right eye with a hook in round seven. Zamora continued to bang away with his hooks to the body and head and a furious rally down the stretch enabled him to take the tightest of UD's. 114-113 x3 Miguel Lora 17-3-2 (10) vs Harold Petty 17-4-1 (6) Lora put a decisive end to the unexpected run from Petty with a comprehensive Boxing lesson that included a knockdown in the tenth from a nasty uppercut and Miguel took the wide UD, 120-107 & 118-109 x2

Bantamweights Third Round
Charles LeDoux 17-3-2 (12) vs Abner Mares 32-8-2 (18)
The first six rounds were tightly contested with both men banging away on the inside with body shots, while LeDoux connected with clubbing right hands from the outside while Abner dealt out a tighter attack with short hooks and right hands. Early in round seven Charles dropped him with a hook to the liver; Mares barely beat the count and only his courage took him to the bell as the Frenchman hammered away with rights and lefts. It took two more rounds for Mares to recover but in the tenth he rocked LeDoux with a double hook and pasted him with combinations during a dominant stanza. After Abner boxed well in the eleventh, Charles dug deep in the final round and took it behind his right hand. That, along with the knockdown, enabled him to take the tough UD. 115-112 x3 Terry McGovern 37-4 (26) vs Anselmo Moreno 19-3-1 (6) You couldn't produce a sharper contrast in styles if you wanted to and it produced compelling action. After Moreno undressed him in the opening round with deft movement and combinations, Terry bulled inside over the next five rounds and hammered away with powerful right hands that shook Anselmo on several occasions. With most of the action taking place with his back to the ropes Moreno showed off his countering and defensive prowess with short left hands and uppercuts, but the aggression of McGovern was building a lead. Sensing it slipping away, Moreno became aggressive in the seventh and he pushed Terry back with 3 and 4 punch combinations in a round that saw Anselmo launch well over 100 punches. McGovern caught Moreno early in round eight with a right hand and he floored him with an uppercut for a six count. Another knockdown followed in the ninth and McGovern carried the action down the stretch to take the wider than it looked UD. 119-108 & 118-109 x2 Mark Johnson 57-7-2 (32) vs Charley Phil Rosenberg 16-5-1 (4) This was a technical battle that saw both fighters work behind their jabs. Rosenberg was slightly more aggressive and he opened up a cut over Johnson's left eye with several right hands in the eight round and carried that momentum into the ninth where he staggered Johnson with an uppercut. Too Sharp bounced back and had the crowd behind him in the final round when he dazzled with precision combos. It wasn't quite enough and Charley took the SD. 118-113, 114-116 & 117-114 Lupe Pintor 35-4-2 (27) vs (WBA) David Kui Kong Young 18-3 (7) After a feeling out opening round they went toe to toe in the second with Pintor ripping hooks to the body while the champion scored with one-twos to the head. They continued to go at it in round three and a right hand opened a bad gash over the challengers left eye, Guadalupe stormed back with a series of hooks to the head and body and a vicious uppercut dropped Young for a seven count late in the thrilling frame. Kui Kong boxed well in the fourth, but once again Pintor hurt him with his hook in round five and he pounded the champion along the ropes over the final minute of the round. David spent the majority of the sixth with his back to the ropes and, though he countered well, Pintor teed off with devastating body work and hooks to the head. Feeling the urgency Kui Kong met him in the center of the ring for round seven and slugged away on even terms with his challenger until a short hook caught Lupe flush on the jaw and dropped him for a five count with seconds remaining in another action packed round. The frenzied action became more measured and Pintor's body work started to take the steam out of Young. He was already ahead when he floored the soon to be former champion with a crushing left hook just before the final bell to punctuate his impressive UD. 145-138 x2 & 144-138

Rematches:
Alan Rudkin 18-4-2 (2) vs Jose Medel 18-4-1 (7)
Medel came in with a great game plan that saw him jab his way inside and work the body and head with sharp left hooks. In the third Alan connected with a hard right hand that opened a nasty gash over Jose's left eye. It didn't deter the Mexican and Medel continued to pile up points with great in-fighting. Late in the tenth the cut was reopened and early in the eleventh the fight was stopped to the outcry of the fans and Medel was beside himself as his lead of 99-91, 98-92 & 97-93 was wiped away. Tough luck loser tonight.

Bantamweights Fourth Round
(IBF) Fighting Harada 63-3 (35) vs (WBA) Guadalupe Pintor 36-4-2 (27)
Harada used sharp two and three punch combos to carry the opening round, but a late hook from the Mexican opened a cut outside of his right eyebrow. Fighting continued to box brilliantly but his cut was reopened in the second and fifth rounds and Lupe closed the distance better in the fourth and fifth and started getting off his trademark hooks to the body. They went toe to toe in an even sixth round that saw Harada's jabs create a slight mouse under Guadalupe's right eye but Pintor stunned him in the closing seconds with two wicked body shots and a right hand flush on the chin. Lupe jumped on Harada early in the seventh and he battered him about the ring with savage hooks to the head and body during the most dominant round of the fight. The Japanese legend rebounded in the eighth but in the closing seconds he was caught with an uppercut that dropped him for a four count. Harada stormed out with purpose in round nine and he tattooed Lupe with jabs and hooks over the next six minutes that brought significantly more damage to his right eye. After another big round in the eleventh from harada, Pintor got a second wind in the twelfth and they traded violently with two searing hooks buckling Fighting's legs in the final twenty seconds. That was Pintor's last stand and Harada swept the final three rounds with swift movement and hard one-twos to take the well earned UD. 145-140 x2 & 143-142 Alan Rudkin 19-4-2 (3) vs Charley Phil Rosenberg 17-5-1 (4) This was tepid affair with both relying more on their defensive skills, Rosenberg was the more effective of the two and he landed some sharp hooks and uppercuts to take a surprisingly split decision. 117-112, 113-116 & 116-113 Koki Kameda 61-7-1 (37) vs Terry McGovern 38-4 (26) Kameda peppered Terry with jabs and right hands that ballooned his right eye and split open his left eye, but McGovern pounded the body to slow him down and late in the fight he repeatedly rocked Kameda with clubbing right hands on the way to the UD. 117-111 x2 & 116-113 Franco Zurlo 15-7-1 (4) vs Charles LeDoux 18-3-2 (12) Zurlo looked like he was going to add LeDoux to his list of upsets that already includes Jimmy Barry & Agustin Senin when he boxed brilliantly over the first three rounds and frustrated Charles with stiff jabs and superior defense. The Frenchman scored better in the fifth with his right hand but he was well behind in the seventh when a hook to the body set up an uppercut that landed flush on the chin and abruptly flattened Zurlo for the ten count.

Bantamweights Fourth Round
Fidel LaBarba 72-8-4 (18) vs Miguel Lora 18-3-2 (10)
LaBarba built up an early lead mainly behind his jab and Lora struggled to get his offense going. The middle rounds were tight, if not exhilarating, and there was little to choose between them. Miguel struck in the tenth when he staggered Fidel with a hook and hammered him in the corner over the final minute of an extremely dominant round. Lora again took the eleventh with powerful shots before Fidel rebounded to out-box the Colombian in the twelfth. The SD surprisingly went the way of Lora 118-111(LOL), 113-115 & 114-113 Wilfredo Gomez 71-10-1 (55) vs Alfonso Zamora 19-3-1 (15) Bazooka used his superior skills to take the first two rounds, though Zamora opened a cut on Wilfredo's left eyelid with a right hand late in the opening round. Gomez continued to out-box him in the third but Zamora landed a crushing left hook that staggered his foe and the mexican got the best of a toe to toe exchange that ended round three. With his cut reopened, Wilfredo came out for the fourth with a vengeance and he dropped Alfonso for a nine count with a hook to the body; after an elongated flurry a vicious uppercut put Zamora down for the count late in round four. Rafael Herrera 17-4-2 (3) vs Midget Wolgast 43-4-1 (14) This was a technical battle that turned when Wolgast opened a gash over Herrera's left eye with a lead right in the fourth. From that point on, Midget was a step ahead and he built a lead on all three cards until a single straight left from Rafael put him down form the count in round ten. Manuel Ortiz 37-5 (19) vs Owen Moran 31-8-3 (15) This fight wasn't particularly close, but it was competitive most of the way. Ortiz used superior hand speed and technique to control the majority of the rounds and he showed the toughness required to fight on even terms when a brawl broke out. Moran was floored in round eleven with a short hook and Ortiz earned the wide UD. 119-110 & 118-110 x2
