hank blalock is a MUCH better "prospect" than Brandon Larson, although i'm sure everyone will disagree with me b/c they can't accept the fact that brandon larson is oh, what's the word for it? overrated....

and while boone did lead the majors for SB by a 3B, i forgot that 3B was a speed position and that your 3B is your big steals guy.... Boone did, however, rank #32 for MLB 3B in OBP, surprisingly 6th in HR, but only 19th in SLG, so clearly when Aaron isn't hitting the ball out of the ballpark, he's making outs.... remember, he did have the 6th most Ks for all 3B, 11th most Hits, while only walking 10th most with a paltry, emphasize PALTRY 56 walks..... anything else?
Nobody really says speed has to be a certain position. You need your steals from somewhere, correct? And 25/25 from 3B, most teams will take. While I do not think Boone is great, I do think he is an average 3B ... which right now is a starter in the majors due to the non-depth of the position. Now, he also played some games at Shortstop, and if he produces the same in his shift over to Second, then maybe he's an asset overall. It all depends on how the other 2B produce on whether he's an offensive asset at the position or not. And I do expect Larson to put up average numbers at the position this year - if he can stay away from injuries. But as you pointed out, only 9 3B had an OPS above .800, that's not even 33%.

While you are correct about the roster stipulation, remember this is a guy who was once considered a monster out of LSU (I believe he had Boras as his agent in 1997 when he was drafted - first round, by the way). By the time he was exposed in the Rule 5 draft, he already had both a full AA and a full AAA season under his belt (as well as some time lingering in A ball prior to those two years). Looking at that track record, surely somebody could have been brazen and taken him while hoping he'd eventually develop into what he originally was projected to be (a great hitter).

Of course he is much better, but you stated out Larson's Major League stats, not his Triple-A stats, or a combination of the both. You can't say one player is terrible because of his major league stats, but a player who was considerably worse is still great. And no, Larson is not overrated. Larson is not expected to be Chipper Jones, Scott Rolen, or Troy Glaus. The reason he SEEMS overrated, is because you dogged him and called him horrible, which he is not. While he is not a blue chip prospect, he is a solid prospect, because he can be a regular in the majors.

I don't think he will pan out to be a great hitter, a consistant .285-25 hitter can be expected, which is fine. Also, teams just recently started to utilize the Rule V draft more (it seems that way anyway, I could be off on that). As before you saw guys who are major league ready but were injured and left off the 40-man being taken more then you did the Enrique Cruz's and Javier Lopez's of the world.

just think how many steals boone could have if he got on base more often? sure, 25/25 is good, but it's not like boone is facing quality pitching due to the fact that most of the young pitchers out there today shouldn't be in the majors, and most pitchers are throwing past their prime.... i think you just need to look at the Royals, the Devil Rays, the Rangers and of course the Reds too are hurting with a soft pitching staff.... there are MANY more examples of weak pitching staffs out there

if I remember correctly, you said once that you accounted for the three years in something like a 10/30/60 percent breakdown; in the 2 year cases, what replaces the first year statistics ?
This is just curiousity; the ratings are looking good.
No problem. For 2 year guys, usually I just them average stats for the league they actually did play in their first year. So a guy who started in 2001 in the Northwest League would get the Northwest League's average stats for 2000, but the age vs league modifier would be set to 0 (so he doesn't get added credit for being young for the league). It ends up being minor anyway since it makes up about 15% of the grade, it would take a very good or very poor season to skew the numbers too much. For a guy for whom 2002 is his first year, it's the same thing. Wipe out the age modifiers for the years he didn't play and give him averages. Not perfect, by any means, but it tempers guys who had one great low-ball year by having average stats calm their grade. Since I don't like overrating guys based on one year unless it's completely dominant, that idea appeals to me.

Hope I answered it well. If you want to know more let me know.

As for the rest of this ridiculousness. The guy was wrong about comments to me about Thome and saying it was my work, foolish in comments about Larson (prospect status debatable, but not realizing I was responding to requests from users is silly, showing he didn't even read what was going on). The Blalock comment is laughable...who said Blalock wasn't a better prospect than Larson? If you noticed when I did Larson's ratings I said they were high because of the ridiculous year he had last year and that I would need to adjust them. That said, calling Larson "horrible" based on 51 major league at bats is foolish. End of story.
Cyclone, it's funny you have so much to say about how I deal with people disagreeing with me...I've spent the whole thread taking comments and criticisms from people so I could make the sheets better. The guy who criticized me WAS acting like a punk with his attitude, and WAS acting stupid in not even knowing what he was talking about related to the roster set. But that's ok, don't let things like facts keep you from running your mouth.

I'm done with this junk. If you want to talk prospects, ratings or whatever, that's cool. It's why I started the thread.

Well in that case, why did the "useless Boone" lead the Reds in most hitting categories? The rest of the team faced the same pitchers. And the four teams you named, three are NL and one is your own which you don't face, so that doesn't validate Boone. And that doesn't explain why Boone was essentially the 2nd best 3B in his division (unless I'm missing someone), and that's only because Rolen moved there half way through, and considering he played all 162 games, that's quite durable, and most players didn't.

I'm starting entry into the sheets this week. Hitters will be much quicker than pitchers, but there is NO time table for this. I'll do it when I have the time and get it done ASAP. That's not to be a jerk so don't take it as such, I just don't want to end up defending myself later on. Consider nothing guaranteed, I'm just going to do what I can.

Thanks again for the support and interest.

Definitely understandable, like I said, just curious on what you had, because if someone in my league asks me, I can let them know.

Instead of politely telling the guy that you had nothing to do with that actual roster set - and calmly reiterating what work you have done and what you're currently working on - you instead resorted to lashing out at him with the "I'm better than you" attitude. So he was incorrect in tying your name with the roster set he downloaded. Fine. But is that grounds for attacking him and putting an unjust label on the guy? Heck, ignoring him would have been a more suitable option.

It's sort of ironic, really. You put out a roster set, people throw you up on a pedestal, and you become pretentious and self-centered about it. Listen, even though it may seem as if I'm trying to flare up a flame war here, I'm really not. I'm just wondering if there's any need for the egotistical 'tude you've seemed to arm yourself with.

And yet I'm the one who's running their mouth? Those are quite strong words there, kid.

The "better than you" and "pretentious" nonsense you spew makes no sense, not surprisingly. How is it pretentious and self-centered to ask people to tell you what you're doing wrong so you can fix it and make it better? There is no logic to your comments, but I'm sure that won't stop you from rambling foolishly.

I had to laugh at this; those fancy statistics are pretty standard for anyone with a remotely sabremetric approach to baseball; RBI and BA are pretty crappy statistics, as it is.

So is that why whenever you watch a baseball game, or go to a website to view stats, you never see any of those statistical categories? By saying that stats like BA, HR, RBI, SB, etc. are crappy statistics, and that those others are much better, you're pretty much calling every baseball expert in the world an idot. I've read many articles by baseball experts, and they never mention any of those statistics. So are you calling them idots?

Most experts are now basing offensive production by OPS. RC is used some of the time, and while I don't see RQ and the other stats he mentioned used often, they are used at times. They use BA-HR-RBI-SB because it's much easier for the "casual" baseball fan to understand, and it's been used forever. Seeing BA-HR-RBI for a player's statistical line has been around since the game was being televised. But if you noticed, little by little OPS is being worked into telecasts, where as they will show in between ABs or something the leaders in OPS, stuff like that. Eventually OPS will be used as frequently as BA-HR-RBI.

In fact I am, and anyone who has bothered to do any research into the matter will agree with me. Ba and RBI are for idiots like TIm McCarver and Phil rogers, who also buy into the crap like "veteran presence" and "clutch hitting." As for OPS, it is the pet stat of Gammons and co; while it is a far better indicator of offensive production than BA, either Eqa or RC do much better jobs.

GeForce, come off your mountain

Granted, I was wrong to assume that GForcev3Update would be your work, since you are the high and mighty GeForce after all, correct? I see GForcev3Update and I see GeForce on the boards with you trying to assemble your mindless automaton minions in threads asking for the huddled masses to submit "prospects" to you so you can tweak whatever worthless database you've assembled and exhibit pride. Pride is one thing, but you're so pompous and ostentatious that you are making me wonder if you have a real career, or if you're some aging hipster in his basement in a unabomber-esque manner writing lines of code in your precious database. Maybe I missed a memo or something, but who died and left you in command? I guess a better question is where can I buy a GeForce worship kit and how can I become you, because I think that's my new goal in life after reading these 12 some pages of threads created by YOU to draw attention to your obviously meaningless life in a trifling attempt to promote your prized roster sets and collection of prospects that you must speculate, speculate being the key word there, exactly how they will develop in your 3 year formula. 3 year formula, is that copyrighted like KFC's 11 herbs and spices, or Baskin Robbin's 31 flavors? I'm guessing that you're probably about 5'3", maybe as tall as 5'7", you run at least a deuce and you have the world's biggest napoleonic complex imaginable. I just love to return to this thread to read your "updates" on how your sheets are doing so your little lambs can go engage in obviously one of your favorite activities: masterbation to pictures of little boys. Your sheets would be near completition if you didn't have to take time out of your busy porn schedule to actually input some data. And how dare you call me a punk!! You have no idea of my age, but since you're the Zeus-like GeForce, I keep forgetting that I have to pay homage to your lack of greatness. You better run along to your Minitab or Excel or whatever fine program you sit in front of when you're not surfing the net for your latest round of altar boys.
