Juventus would make a very good FM scenario. Down 30 points to start the season you must battle back to Serie A

That'd be cool if Jurgen Klinsmann would coach the United States. However, nobody knows if Klinsmann would really want the job, as no offers have been made yet.

There are other possibilities. Here's a nice list taken from FoxSports.com:

"There are a growing number of international mercenary coaches — such as Bruno Metsu, former coach of Senegal; Dick Advocaat (South Korea and a former NASL player), Phillipe Troussier, Henri Michel (Tunisia) — are available. And then there's Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, who led Australia and South Korea and whose contract with Russia seems to have collapsed, and who's name might bubble to the surface."

Perfect scenario imo for the USA team is if Hiddinks not going to Russia then hire him at all costs and put one of the brightest American born coaches on his staff to learn from him so in say 3-4 years you'll have an American born coach with experience in international football, personally I wish England would have gone down this road with Hiddink or Scolari with Stuart Pearce under their wing.

Biggest losers in the Italian scandal are the fans, people who weren't involved in the scandal the fans. Maybe oneday not only footbal but all sports will be given back to the fans and not the men in suits.

With the points deduction though it's going to make it very unlikely that they will get promoted next season so in a way it's like they have been demoted to Serie C2, I feel sorry for the fans to be honest as their going to end up watching a bunch of second rate players in a lower league for no fault of their own.

Not really. If they were in C2 they would have to win promotion to C1 before they could even think about Serie B. And even more of their players would leave the team.

ukhotstove, is there any buzz about Ipswich Town over there? They are one of my favorite teams but it's very difficult to follow them in the states...only the internet to feed my craving. I was sad to see Royle go as I thought he had done a good job. Do pundits think they have a chance at promotion? It should be easier now that West Ham is out of the Championship.

Isn't the MLS part of this vast umbrella.

And is there no leagues worthy of talk outside of the MLS and Western Europe? Is Eastern Euro a black hole or something?

Would that be the same hockey where the top league has shipped most of Canada's teams to the US?

I have no problem with any of our other "domestic" sports expanding to Canada. Heck, calling MLB or the NBA "American" leagues is laughable at best. The best players in baseball no longer come from the US and basketball is slanting that way. Obviously hockey has always been like that. MLS international expansion bothers me because I believe putting a team in Canada (that could be in the USA) will hurt the development of US Soccer. Those young new fans/players gained by Toronto will suit up for Canada, not the US. As one of MLS's stated goals is advancing US Soccer I'd say they are making a mistake.

Tractor boys not heard much about them although weird thing was we have a programme called "The Football Years" in which they concentrate on a certain year and not only show football highlights but also what was happeing in England at the time, this week it was 1981/82 and showed quite a bit about Ipswich.

Nope. Thread title and initial post might be clues to that.

"After the sucessful WC thread (which is still ongoing) I decided a week or so ago that there is enough of a following around here to give football its own season thread.
Most of Europe is gearing up for the 06/07 campaign and this is the thread to disscuss it all.
Enlgish football, SPL, Bundesliga, French football, Serie A, Spanish club play and everything else."

Ahh, the heady days of yore. If you've never heard the call of Osborne's game winner vs. the Gunners in the 78 FA Cup Final, you owe it to yourself. I can't find it on the net anymore, but it gave me chills the first time I heard it (I'd just been born when it actually happened so don't remember it). The roar of the crowd followed by "Ipswich one, Arsenal nill. Osborne the scorer." Great stuff.
