It's interesting reading through all the opinions, but it is (IMO) a bit assumptive to simply write off the future of the game because of a buyout.

True, many mergers/buyouts end up significantly changing the product line - but to assume that is ALWAYS the case is taking things a bit far.

At this point, we have every reason to believe Markus wants to keep working on making OOTP the best baseball simulation available - and doing that will certainly make SEGA money. Until sales starts to fall off, I wouldn't worry too much about what SEGA "might" do.

That being said, no game lasts forever. With the possible exception of the "SIM" series, every game is ultimately replaced with something else. I certainly can't say that OOTP will be here 5 or 10 years from now, but I suspect many of us here will be on to other interests as well.

Let's wait and see what happens. The "400" drama was bad, but the Season Ticket "scenario" was good. For the moment, I'll bet on this being "good".

And a Zito fan wouldn't know anything about that.

I wouldn't know. The team I support for are the champs. That feels quite good actually.

Fair enough. But it doesn't let a fan of Zito off the hook.

Because.

Too bad, too, since SI stood for 'Schedules Important'.

Sure it does, I didn't saything about the whole team. One man in baseball is not generally enough. Just look at the Giants' model for this season.

Actually, I think the Giants model for this season is "We play in the NL West so it's not like we have to do a whole lot to make the playoffs."

I remember the strike year when Texas was atop the AL west with a record of 52-62. California was in the cellar 5.5 games out. In a way the strike was merciful since any one of those pathetic franchises might've somehow wormed their way up the playoff ladder to get to the big dance.

No kidding. Two reprehensible teams (in the eyes of MLB) could have made the playoffs that year: a team under .500, and the Expos.
