Surprisingly and without much fanfare, Curd takes the batter of the month award over Chourio, leading the team in Runs Created for the month of May.

After our worst series of the season, a 4-game sweep to Tampa featuring 4 bullpen losses, we could really use a layup.

Chourio tried to win this game a couple of times, finally got it done for good in the 11th.

Taki struggled but battled.
Bullpen was solid, set it for Gauer to close it in the 9th.

Like Taki yesterday, Martinez Jr really had to battle into the 6th.
Harris came in and allowed a couple of runs over his first 2 innings, but then shut it down for the 3rd.
Gauer closed it out in the 9th.

Melchor had a decent start, battled, kept the team in the game.
8-3 lead and the bullpen implodes.
That's it. Time for some heads to roll.
I know bullpens are volatile by nature, but enough. Accountability.

Bama battles back, ends a long game on a walk-off to even up the series.

Sharp with a huge 3R bomb as he works back from the IL.
Curd, The Boars more recent Batter of the Month, is off to a horrible start in June, something like 1-20.

Steward just so-so, pitching in and out of trouble.
Bratt was good in 1st appearance, pushed him a little too far.
Rookie ST Tony Harris and Trevor Moore were great, Gauer shuts it down for the save.

Back to back bombs to walk it off!!! We're back!! (again)

Kortz drops a bomb to tie it up. Maddox , who had an .844 OPS in April, falling back to a .525 OPS in May (some lagging shoulder injuries, D2D), walks it off as he's coming back into healthy form.

Taki pitches very well again. The Boars lead NABO in quality starts, surprisingly.
Glazman blows the save, then vultures the win. No apologies.

Major comeback win for the Boars. Trailing 8-5 in the 9th, 3B Jason Maddox hit a PH 3R HR to tie the game and C Andrade singled home the go ahead run later that inning. The bottom of the order was very productive.

Martinez Jr was brutal in his start, but the Bullpen threw 4.1 scoreless innings, as the batters brough on the comeback. Newcomers Mitch Bratt, and Dustin Chandler were excellent, while CL Jon Gauer slammed the door with his 18th save.

The two teams had a classic pitcher's duel, leading to Windy City evening up the series with their own late game win on a costly defensive throwing error by SS Zachary Kortz.

Jayson Maddox was the batting leader with a couple of hits, and after his PH HR last night, it looks as though he is regaining his form from April.

SP Mike Melchor pitched another gem, and another QS without a win. ST Ross Stevens allowed a run in the 8th to allow the Whitetails to tie the game 2-2. ST Tony Harris pitched a clean 9th, but gave up the go ahead and losing run in the 10th.

The offense explodes on Windy City, taking the final game and the series.

1B/LF Matt Baker and SS Zachary Kortz were awesome at the top of the order, while 3B Jason Maddox and C Yanuel Casiano thumped at the bottom of the lineup.

SP Johnathan Booska scattered 7 hits of 6 scoreless innings to pick up his 8th win of the season.

Matt Baker's hit streak was snapped at 13 games ... getting a hit in each game he has played since being called up to 'Bama. Over those 13 games he has put up a slash line of ..394/.461/.576 for an OPS of 1.036, 79% better than league average.

Boars get another dramatic walk off win to take the 1st game of the series.

1B Matt Baker led off the 9th with a walk and 2B Dave Roberson wasted no time, blasting a walk off 2R HR into the RF seats.

Rookie RH SP Fred Steward was great, pitching into the 7th, before turning the ball over to ST Ross Stevens who was even better, keeping the team in the game until Roberson's dramatic ending.

Another well played game between Birmingham and New Orleans, but no late game magic for the Boars.

C Vinny Andrade was the hitting star for Bama, collecting a couple of hits, including one that tied up the game.

SP Masahiro Takiuchi was good over 5 IP. MR Matt Glazman was very good for 2 IP, but put some runners on in his 3rd inning of work. Glaze gave way to MR Trevor Moore who struggled to find the plate, and when he did, gave up hits scoring the inherited runners.

LF Jim Hoffman of New Orleans has had enough of the close games and decided to turn this one into a blowout.

The bottom of the order did their job, getting on base, and LF Jon Curd is out of his slump. But the top of the order struggled to drive runners in.

Hoffman tagged both SP Javier Martinez Jr and LHP Mitch Bratt for 3R HRs, ruining the day for the Bama pitching staff.

The teams resumed their close game, exciting style in the final game of the series, but the Boars were unable to close the gap and drop the series 3-1.

In the 9th, after a leadoff single, LF Matt Baker and C Vinny Andrade walked to load the bases. 2B Dave Roberson brought in the runner from 3rd with a SF to CF, but SS Zachary Kortz and DH Bobby 'Razor' Sharp were unable to plate the other 2 runners.

SP Mike Melchor was solid again, with his 7th QS of the season, netting him just one win. MR Matt Glazman was outstanding over 3 innings, giving Birmingham a chance to make a comeback.

Georgia jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but LF Jackson Chourio tied it up with a based loaded (and clearing) double. The Generals would go back up with a 5-3 until the Boars scored 4 in the 7th, capped off by potential All-Star RF Nick Calloway.

SP Johnathan Booska and MR Dustin Chandler battled through innings, setting up ST Ross Stevens and CL Jon Gauer to finish off the victory. Stevens is among the league leaders in shutdowns, Gauer in the top 5 for saves.

The Boars were winning another pitcher's duel 2-0, going into the 9th, when CL Jon Gauer got tagged for as game-tying 2R HR. Yesterday's Player of the Game LF Jackson Chourio drove home CF Jon Curd for the walk-ff winin the 10th. Curd strained his calf, hauling arse from 1B to score the winning run.

Rookie SP Fred Steward pitched scoreless baseball into the 7th, walking 1 and fanning 4. ST Tony Harris (fellow rookie) was solid again, leading to Gauer. After the bomb off Gauer, ST Ross Stevens shut it down for the Bama Win.

The Boars win another close game, sweeping the rival Georgia Generals. Trailing 3-2 in the 7th, C Vinny Andrade, 3B Jason Maddox, and 1B Matt Baker loaded the bases for the heart of the order. 2B Dave Roberson drove in a run with a single and RF Nick Calloway sent the team to the lead with a walk.

SP Masahiro Takiuichi pitched a great QS+, earning the win before turning it over to MR Trevor Moore who finished the game for his 1st save, with Stevens and Gauer exhausted from prior work.

Looking for a "fair" way to manage the stolen bases attempts. Birmingham has 6-7 legit base stealing, and the game is set (Stats and Ai) to be in the 80s ... so there are a very good amount of SB. Found this in a search. Gonna go with that.

Birmingham Gets ...

While not a major prospect, Williams fits the mold for what they're looking for in outfielders ... and he's cheap.

With Chourio being a free agent at the end of the season and seeking a 56M/4y deal ... he's too expensive for Birmingham to absorb.

Santo Domingo Gets ...

The primary goal of the trade for Birmingham was to trade Gillspie's 30M/3y contract ... and they were able to do it by including a good closer prospect in Adamson.

The Boars jumped all over SP Joel Lara, defending West Cy Young Award winner (and front-runner for this year's award), leading 6-1 after 3 innings. The Shires used the power of Neto and Kellam to tie the game up at 7. OF Jackon Chourio put the Boars up for good with a 2R triple. The real batting star for 'Bama was 2B Dave Roberson who collected 5 hits on the day.

SP Javier M. Martinez Jr surrendered all 7 runs in a rough outing the rookie RHP. However, Birmingham's bullpen of MR Eric Glazman, ST Ross Stevens, and CL Jon Gauer were outstanding, blanking the Shires over the last 3,1 inings.

The two maroon squads played an amazing game tonight, with the Shires winning 4-3 in 14 innings.

C Vinny Andrade drove in two runs and DH Colby Jones collected 3 hits to lead the Bama batters.

SP Mike Melchor pitched his usual QA with no win. ST Ross Stevens pitched a clean 8th, but CL Jon Gauer allowed the tying run in the 9th for a BS. In extra innings, ST Ross Stevens was effective before running out of gas ... LR Mitch Bratt was mostly good, but was saddled with the loss.

St Louis jumped out to a 5-0 lead through 4 innings, but Bama threatened with 3 runs in the 5th. But, that's as close as the Boars would get as StL takes the game 6-3 and the series 2-1.

1B Matt Baker and 2B Dave Roberson each slapped 3 hits at the top of the order, but LF Jackson Chourio left 5 runners on base, leading to the Boars only scoring 3 runs.

SP Jonathan Booska did not pitch well, but the big righty perserved to throw a CG, sparing the drained Birmingham bullpen from pitching more innings. Credit to Boo on this one.

Alright, we've had some serious weather lately, you've likely seen the tornado damage on the news ... so internet has been spotty. Played a lot of games, now time for a lot of updates ... it's gonna be a coupla pages.

Boars get out to a 4-0 lead, bullpen wobbles but stays upright. Bir 4-2.

LF Jackson Chourio continues to bring the timely and productive hitting.

SP Frew Steward threw 5 scoreless innings, but had to work really hard for it with lots of deep counts. ST Tony Harris was his usual dominant self, and is putting together quite a run of effectiveness. MR Dustin Chandler gave up and 2R HR, but got through it, setting the stage for CL Jon Gauer, but he did not have it tonight. After a couple of quick outs, Gauer allowed a couple of hits and then a walk to load the bases. With Gauer gassed, the Boars turned to ST Ross Stevens and he was able to get the final out, preserving the lead .. and the win.

Boars get down big early, battle back, but fall short in the end. Baltimore evens the series 1-1.

After getting down 6-0, Birmingham battled back, to get within a run at 6-5. But the Bombers offense padded the lead, primarily by a 2R HR by 3B Christian Moore (Remember him? He was our 3B for the Mesa Monsters in my old NABO48 dynasty using OOTP25 (or maybe 24?).

The Boars had the bats (and the gloves) going tonight, taking the 1st game of a 4-game series against the Port au Prince Pirates.

Leading vote getter among East RF Nick Calloway led the 'way' for 'Bama with 3 RBI on 2 hits. Backup C Yani Casiano continues to be productive in his service, contributing 2 more hits, bring his average to .391.

SP Mike Melchor delivered another QS, earning his 2nd win this time. Melchie did not walk a batter over his 6.1 IP. ST Ross Stevens finished the game, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings, earning his 5th save of the year.

The Boars got down early, and stayed down, losing 7-33, evening the series at a game apiece.

The 1-2 top of the order punch of 1B Matt Baker and 2B Dave Roberson continue to be a force, setting the table for the Boars. Tonight the duo went 5-8, with both hitting well over .300, with OBPs over the .400 mark.

SP Jonathan Booska had an off game allowing 7 ER in 6+ innings, including 2 3R HRs to LF Jose Flores. ST Tony Harris came in and kept the Pirates scoreless during his work, but Birmingham was unable to close the gap.

The Boars lose a close one tonight, dropping the game 6-5 and falling behind 1-2 in the series.

1B Matt Baker set the table again with 2 more hits, including a long ball and 3B Jason Maddox drilled a 2R HR, his 9th of the season.

SP Fred Steward threw another QS, despite allowing a bomb, and normally reliable ST Ross Stevens was tagged with a 2R HR by yesterday's POG LF Jose Flores. MR Matt Glazman came on in relief and was decent, but did give up the go ahead, and eventual winning run, to be assigned with the loss.
