Pete Bucolo (40-4.1) needs to leave the team for treatment of his injury and rather than taking a leave of absence, he has decided to step down. He said the team had not responded to his leadership this year as in years past and that maybe a new man at the helm would turn the team around.

Grand National Association:
Chicago (9) at Providence (5): Skyrocket Howard (23-5.4) (7-8) over Ed Wison (27-7.3) (11-12). SS Bob Robertson (25-4.1) had 4 hits with 2 triples, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. For the Grays, RF John Froom (40-6.2), in only his 3rd game of the season due to injury, hit a home run.

Kansas City (6) at Brooklyn (0): Piggy Lambert (24-8.2) (13-12) over William David (25-3.6) (19-18). Lambert allowed 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7.

St. Louis (5) at Omaha (4): Ed Copeland (22-6.0) (4-9) over Tom Lee (30-6.0) (14-17). St. Louis scored 3 times in the top of the 9th to take the lead. Copeland allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 4.

Washington (3) at Milwaukee (1): Dad Marshall (29-4.4) (4-4) over Kid Henze (24-5.2) (5-5). Marshall only went 5 innings, allowed no runs, 2 hits, no walks and struck out 3. He twisted his ankle, but should be fine and fully fit in a day or two. Pop Yurkovich (36-5.6) pitched the final 4 innings.

Jake Burnes (62-6.1), owner of the Kansas City Cowboys, passed away yesterday due to a heart attack. He had owned the Cowboys since 1885. In Burnes' 1st season of ownership, the team improved from 7th place to 3rd place and last year won the GNA Championship and became the 1st GNA team to defeat a Liberty League team in the post-season series. Upon buying the team, Burnes named Connie Frenette (33-4.7) as the manager and never made a change, even when the Cowboys finished last in 1886. The team will be held in trust by the GNA and sold this off-season as per league rules.

Owner Ike Lee (65-4.5) of the Boston Shamrocks announced the hiring of John Rickey (43-7.9) as his new manager. Rickey has never managed before. He was an outfielder for New York in the old National Association in 1871 and 1872 and later played in the B Leagues.

Manager John Cusick (47-7.5) has his Hoosiers in town to begin a 3 game series today. We are 13-3 against hem on the season and beat them in 2 games at Indianapolis a week ago. They are 5th in the League in scoring with 4.7 runs per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.2). They are 7th in runs allowed with 5.3 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.6).

Indianapolis Hoosiers (43-54 .443 23 GB in 6th place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (64-29 .688 in 1st place)

Jimmy Euler, Ind. (27-5.5) (R 16-10 2.30 7.9-2.1-3.7 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 27-11 2.24 7.8-0.9-5.2)

We are 4-3 against Euler on the season, but he has a 1.40 ERA and we have only hit .198 against him.

Won - 5 to 0

Rice's 4th shutout ties him for the League lead. Indianapolis did not get their 1st hit until the 5th inning. They never did get their 2nd.

Rice allowed 1 hit, 3 walks and struck out 5.

Euler gave us 7 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4.

We made 2 errors and Indianapolis made 6.

CF Ren Dunbar (24-6.8) hit a double and had an RBI. LF Al Lewis (23-9.1) had 3 hits with 2 doubles, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (5) at Cleveland (2) Game 1: Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (20-16) over Lou Townley (26-3.4) (23-16). Mathews allowed 8 hits, no walks and struck out 6. Townley allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6.

Pittsburgh (7) at Cleveland (4) Game 2: Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (21-16) over Willard Clapp (26-4.3) (8-17). Mathews allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. 2B Al Steel (28-7.0) had 4 hits and scored a run. For the Spiders, SS Cowboy Gray (26-7.8) hit his 6th home run of the season. Rookie LF Jimmy King (25-4.5) will miss 2 weeks with a sore elbow.

Boston (8) at New York (5): William Little (27-6.0) (20-14) over Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (17-13). 3B Highball Baxter (22-5.7) had 4 hits with a double and a walk and 3 RBIs. For the Gothams, CF Cinders Bradley (25-7.1) hit his 3rd home run of the year.

Grand National Association:
Chicago (5) at Providence (6): Tom Ashton (24-5.2) (23-17) over Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (22-16). SS Bob Robertson (25-4.1) had 4 hits with 2 triples, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. For the Grays, RF John Froom (40-6.2), in only his 3rd game of the season due to injury, hit a home run.

Milwaukee (2) at Washington (5): Dad Marshall (29-4.4) (5-4) over Al Bedingfield (25-2.8) (4-2). Marshall allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4. Rookie 3B Dell Walton (27-7.0) had 3 hits, scored a run and had 3 RBIs.

We are on the road again in Pittsburgh to face manager Jesse Courtney (39-5.1) and his Puddlers in a 3 game series. We are 10-2 against them on the season and beat them in 2 games in Detroit at the 1st of the month the last time we met. They are 4th in runs scored with 4.9 per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.3). They are 2nd in runs allowed with 4.1 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.6). Their Recreation Park is a pretty good pitcher's park and is the toughest place in the Liberty League to hit home runs. There have only been 5 home runs hit here all season by both the Puddlers and their opponents in 45 games. They have hit that many in 1 game in Indianapolis!

Detroit Wolverines (66-30 .688 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Pittsburgh Puddlers (51-43 .543 14 GB in 2nd place)

Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 28-11 2.18 7.6-1.0-5.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Whitey Mathews, Pitt. (25-4.1) (L 21-16 2.06 7.8-0.9-4.0)

We are 5-1 against Mathews on the season. In the 2nd game of the season, right here in Pittsburgh, he held us to 3 hits in 10 innings and beat us. Since then, we have hit him pretty well.

Won - 5 to 3

5 home runs in 45 games before today and they hit 2 against us! RF Joe Coffey (32-5.2) hit one a mile for his 2nd of the season and C Wilson Wendling (27-4.1) hit one that did not leave the playing field. for his 3rd of the year. He had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBIs.

Rice allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run.

Mathews gave us 10 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6.

We did not make an error and Pittsburgh made 7.

2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) had 2 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. 3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) had 2 hits with an RBI.

Liberty League:
Cincinnati (10) at Louisville (4): William Butina (26-5.6) (9-12) over Count Childs (32-3.1) (5-12). Butina allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4. SS Tub Saslow (23-5.8) had 2 hits with a bases-loaded triple, scored a run and had 4 RBIs.

Cleveland (5) at Indianapolis (3): Lou Townley (26-3.4) (24-16) over Jimmy Euler (27-5.5) (16-12). Townley allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. Euler has lost 5 in a row. C Deacon Dubin (31-8.8) had 3 hits with 2 doubles, scored a run and had an RBI. He is batting .382 in 9 games since being recalled from A Ball.

New York (6) at Boston (8): William Little (27-6.0) (21-14) over Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (17-14). 1B Bill Gordon (31-3.7) had 2 hits with his 8th home run of the season and 3 RBIs.

Grand National Association:
Milwaukee (4) at Brooklyn (3): Dave Ward (23-6.1) (11-10) over Tom Homer (24-5.0) (9-6). Milwaukee scored in the top of the 9th to take the lead. Ward allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. 2B Lou Bohus (28-5.4) had 4 hits with 2 doubles and a walk, stole a base and scored 2 runs, including the go-ahead run in the 9th.

St. Louis (7) at Providence (4) in 10 innings: Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (8-19) over Sy Cullum (25-5.9) (0-1) in relief of Tom Ashton (24-5.2). In 10 innings, Barrow allowed 5 hits, 4 walks and struck out 3. Cullum is normally an outfielder, but was pressed into service in the 9th when Ashton had to leave with arm soreness. He retired the only 2 batters he faced to send the game into extra-innings, but in the 10th his lack of skills became apparent. Ashton should be fine with a day or two of rest.

Chicago (3) at Washington (4) in 10 innings: Ed Bush (28-5.3) (19-21) over Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (22-18). The winning run scored on an error. In 10 innings, Bush allowed 8 hits, 1 walk and struck out 7. Seguin allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5.

Kansas City (4) at Omaha (0): Piggy Lambert (24-8.2) (14-12) over Skyrocket Rice (23-5.2) (20-9). Lambert allowed 3 hits, no walks and struck out 5. It is his 2nd straight 3-hit shutout. Rice allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 3. LF Lou Baggett (26-4.2) hit his 3rd home run of the year. 2 years ago, Baggett led the GNA in RBIs. Last year he missed the entire season with an injury. This year he is back and is again leading the GNA in RBIs.

Cincinnati (5) at Louisville (4) in 13 innings: John Stevens (31-8.2) (21-17) over William McLeod (29-5.6) (16-22) in relief of Jumbo Hoops (23-6.5). RF Ben Smith (29-6.7) is ready to play, so Hi Bowman (24-5.5) is back in Syracuse. Also, Fred Negus (24-6.7), who has been hot lately, is going to reclaim his center field job for now from CF Ren Dunbar (24-6.8), who has been very cold. Dunbar will play left today because of the lefties and LF Al Lewis' (23-9.1) inability to hit them.

SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) had 2 hits with a double, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI. This will be the 1st time we have faced Horner.

RF Joe Coffey (32-5.1) triple and scored in the 9th to spoil the shutout. A slight embarrassment was our 9th inning turn at bat, when rookie Ed Hewitt (24-5.6), normally an infielder, took to the pitcher's box and sat us down in order except for beaning Sam Cowan.

We are in Cleveland today to begin a 4 game series against manager Mickey Baker (45-7.5) and his Spiders. We are 10-6 against them on the year and beat them 2 of 3 in Detroit 2 weeks ago the last time we met. They are 7th in scoring with 4.5 runs per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.4). They are 6th in runs allowed with 5.2 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.5). Their League Park favors hitters, though hitting a home run to right field is a bit of a challenge.

Detroit Wolverines (69-30 .697 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cleveland Spiders (45-57 .441 25.5 GB in 6th place)

Al Rice, Det. (23-7.6) (R 29-11 2.20 7.6-1.0-5.3 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Lou Townley, Clev. (26-3.4) (R 24-16 2.49 7.5-1.1-4.3)

We are 2-4 against Townley this season, though one of our wins was when he came in as a reliever.

Lost - 3 to 2 in 12 innings

A 2-out error by 1B Pat Dunbar (26-8.3) sank us. Townley has beaten us 5 times now; no other pitcher has more then 3 W's against us.

Rice allowed 4 hits, 4 walks and struck out 5.

Townley gave us 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. At bat, he drew 2 walks.

We made 3 errors and Cleveland made none. The are the 2nd best fielding team behind us (except for today, when they were in front of us).

C Cliff Robinson (30-6.1) had 3 hits with a double and scored a run.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (1) at Indianapolis (2) Game 1: Jimmy Euler (27-5.5) (17-12) over Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (21-18). Indianapolis scored a run on an error in the bottom of the 9th to win. Euler allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. Mathews allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 6. For the Puddlers, rookie 1B Lou Green (23-5.9) had 2 hits with a home run.

Grand National Association:
St. Louis (3) at Brooklyn (2) Game 1: Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (9-19) over William David (25-3.6) (20-19). Barrow allowed 6 hits, no walks and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. Davis allowed 7 hits, 3 walks and struck out 6. All of the scoring was done by the 3rd inning.

St. Louis (1) at Brooklyn (2) Game 2: Tom Homer (24-5.0) (10-6) over Ed Copeland (22-6.0) (4-10). Homer allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. Copeland allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. For the Terriers, 3B Kid Powell (25-7.5) hit a home run.

He allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3. Henze allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 6. LF Al Young (24-4.8) had 3 hits with 2 triples, stole a base and scored 3 runs, including the winning one. For the Brewers, 1B Jim Walker (32-7.6) hit his 2nd home run of the year.

Kansas City (8) at Washington (1): Al McClaughry (24-5.6) (14-15) over Ed Bush (28-5.3) (19-22). McClaughry looks to be getting back in the groove. He allowed 2 hits, no walks and struck out 4. C Gene Stone (31-5.4) had 3 hits with a double and scored 2 runs.

Chicago (2) at Omaha (5): Lee Sprague (28-3.5) (24-8) over Pony Stanley (25-6.2) (21-12). Sprague allowed 10 hits, no walks and struck out 8. Stanley allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3. Each team made 5 errors. The Colts are snake-bit; on paper they look like the better team.

Detroit Wolverines (69-31 .690 in 1st place in the Liberty League) at
Cleveland Spiders (46-57 .447 24.5 GB in 6th place)

Dave Frazier, Det. (28-5.7) (L 20-9 2.31 8.6-1.1-3.0 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Willard Clapp, Clev. (26-4.3) (L 9-18 2.87 9.6-3.0-4.4)

We are 4-0 against Clapp on the season.

Won - 8 to 3

The game was a lot closer that the final score. We were trailing most of the game and finally tied it up at 3 apiece in the 8th inning. Cleveland did not make an error yesterday and did not make one today until the 9th inning, but then they got rid of a bunch that they had been storing up. 4 errors and 4 hits gave us 5 runs and the win.

We began the year facing Pittsburgh and their lefties in two of the 1st 3 series. We were 3-3 through the 1st 6 games against a lefty starter. Since then, we have won 15 in a row when a southpaw starts the game! I should have traded Frazier to some other team in the Liberty League so we'd have another lefty to face!

Frazier allowed 9 hits, no walks and struck out 4. At bat, he had a hit and an RBI.

Clapp gave us 12 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2.

We made 3 errors and Cleveland made 4 (all in the 9th inning).

CF Fred Negus (24-6.7) had 2 hits and a walk and scored 2 runs. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) had 3 hits with a double, scored a run and had an RBI. RF Ben Smith (29-6.7) had 2 hits, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. 3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) hit a double and scored a run. C Cliff Robinson (30-6.1) had 2 hits and a walk and was hit by a pitch, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. SS Ed Engelhardt (23-5.0) hit a double, stole a base, scored a run and had an RBI.

For the Spiders, C Charlie Harris (28-5.9) had 3 hits with a double and scored a run.

Liberty League:
Pittsburgh (6) at Indianapolis (7): Levi Giddens (36-4.8) (10-15) over Joe Peters (32-4.9) (10-11). RF Ed Wakefield (28-5.8) had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBIs. 1B Ed Slonim (25-8.5) had 3 hits, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. CF Dave McQueary (25-5.0)fractured his thumb diving for a ball and is likely done for the season. They say it will take 5 to 6 weeks to heal and 6 weeks are all that are left. For the Puddlers, RF Jake Howard (29-4.6) hit his 4th home run of the season and LF Billy Galloway (27-5.3) hit his 5th.

Louisville (1) at New York (0): William McLeod (29-5.6) (18-22) over Miah Turner (27-5.3) (20-17). McLeod allowed 5 hits 1 walk and struck out 2. Turner allowed 4 hits, 1 walk and struck out 6. The only run of the game was scored in the 1st inning on a home run by C Wiley Fobes (37-2.5)

Cincinnati (5) at Boston (8): Freddy Wood (32-6.3) (8-7) over Charlie Branham (28-4.2) (21-18). C Frank Douglas (33-5.8) hit his 3rd home run of the season and 1B Bill Gordon (31-3.7) hit his 9th. For the Reds, 1B Willie Burton (33-8.5) hit his 8th.

Grand National Association:
St. Louis (1) at Brooklyn (6): Al Green (25-3.8) (17-24) over Jimmy Richards (25-0.9) (14-23). Green allowed 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 7. SS Charlie Smith (30-5.60 hit his 3rd home run of the season and RF Tom Campbell (30-3.6) hit his 2nd.

Milwaukee (2) at Providence (3): Ed Hodges (28-3.2) (17-13) over Al Bedingfield (25-2.8) (4-3). Hodges allowed 7 hits, 4 walks and struck out 1. Bedingfield allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. For the Brewers, 1B Jim Walker (32-7.6) hit his 3rd home run of the year, a 2-run shot in the 9th to spoil the shutout. It is the 2nd straight game that he has homered.

Kansas City (11) at Washington (6): Piggy Lambert (24-8.2) (15-12) over Pop Yurkovich (36-5.6) (15-22). McClaughry looks to be getting back in the groove. He allowed 2 hits, no walks and struck out 4. C Gene Stone (31-5.4) had 3 hits with a double and scored 2 runs.

Chicago (2) at Omaha (7): Tom Lee (30-6.0) (15-18) over Skyrocket Howard (23-5.4) (8-10). Lee allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5. RF Bill Hammack (35-5.0) had 3 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. For the Colts, rookie LF Fred Marcuccilli (24-6.4) will miss a week or two with a sore back. SS Bob Robertson (25-4.1) will miss a week with a pulled muscle. This series looks like it might be putting an end to the pennant race.

We are 8-4 against them on the season and beat them in 2 games in Cincinnati a month ago the last time we met. They are 3rd in the League in scoring with 4.9 runs per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.5). They are 5th in runs allowed with 5.1 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.5). We'll be at home for 2 weeks and then we will spend the final 3 weeks of the season on the road and end it in Cincinnati against these same Reds.

I sent to Syracuse for rookie SS Lon Harding (25-5.0). He's not much of a hitter, but he makes contact and he is an awesome fielder. He is leading the International League (A) in fielding percentage for a shortstop by a mile and he's got great range and a very strong arm.

Grand National Association:
Chicago (4) at Brooklyn (3) in 13 innings Game 1: Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (24-19) over Al Green (25-3.8) (17-25). in 13 innings, Seguin allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. Manager Elmer Higgins (42-6.4) has his Bourbons in town today to begin a 4 game series. We are 7-5 against them on the season and lost 2 of 3 against them in Louisville a month ago the last time we met. They are dead last in scoring with 4.2 runs per game (Detroit is #2 with 5.4). They are 4th in runs allowed with 4.9 per game (Detroit is #1 with 3.5).

Louisville Bourbons (43-62 .410 29.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (73-33 .689 in 1st place)

Jumbo Hoops, Lou. (23-6.5) (R 13-12 2.43 7.1-1.8-3.7 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Dave Frazier, Det. (28-5.7) (L 21-10 2.41 8.8-1.1-3.0)

We are 1-1 against Hoops, who leads the League in fewest hits allowed per 9 innings.

Lost - 7 to 6

We made 3 errors and gave them 3 runs in the 1st inning.

Frazier allowed 8 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.

Hoops gave us 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1.

We made 4 errors and Louisville made 5.

2B Ed Aldrich (24-6.8) had 2 hits and stole a base. 1B Sam Cowan (32-5.1) hit a double, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. He is currently 3rd in the League in runs scored. LF Al Lewis (23-9.1) had 3 hits with a double, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. He is batting over .350 since the 1st of August and had 24 RBIs in 23 games. 3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) had 2 hits and an RBI, but made 2 errors. His fielding has been superb this season, but not today.

For the Bourbons, RF John Cray (31-7.0) had 2 hits with a double, scored 3 runs and had an RBI. It was only the 2nd game he has started all season. He may start more because rookie LF Pete Armstrong (21-4.6) wrenched his back and will miss 2 to 3 weeks.

Aldrich now has enough plate appearances to qualify for the Batting Title. He is batting .322 and Louisville's Pete Hinde (33-7.9) is hitting .323.

Liberty League:
Boston (1) at Indianapolis (5): Jimmy Euler (27-5.5) (19-13) over Dave Wolf (26-4.7) (18-24). Euler allowed 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 5. CF Dick Thacker (27-7.6) hit his 3rd home run of the season. For the Shamrocks, LF Charlie Warner (34-9.2) hit his 15th, tying him with Indy's Ed Wakefield (28-5.8) for the League lead. Wakefield had 2 hits, but no home runs.

Cincinnati (8) at Pittsburgh (1): John Stevens (31-8.2) (23-18) over Fred Horner (27-3.8) (3-7). Stevens allowed 3 hits, no walks and struck out 3. Manager/LF Silver Borresen (34-6.9) had 3 hits, scored a run and had an RBI.

New York (7) at Cleveland (2): Jack Roberts (36-6.1) (9-16) over Willard Clapp (26-4.3) (10-20). Roberts allowed 9 hits, 2 walks and struck out 1. Not his best effort, but his defense finally supported him, only making 1 error and turning 3 double-plays. At bat, he had 2 hits. 3B Ed Glass (29-4.5) hit a triple and his 5th home run of the year, drew a walk and had 3 RBIs.

Grand National Association:
Brooklyn (6) at Omaha (9): Tom Lee (30-6.0) (16-18) over William David (25-3.6) (22-20). CF Dave Todd (23-5.5) had 2 hits with a double and a walk, stole a base, scored a run and had 3 RBIs.

Chicago (2) at St. Louis (6): Jimmy Richards (25-0.9) (15-23) over Pony Stanley (25-6.2) (21-14). And then again, maybe there will still be no pennant race. Richards allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4. LF Pat Matthews (25-5.1) had 3 hits, scored a run and had an RBI.

Kansas City (7) at Milwaukee (2): Piggy Lambert (24-8.2) (17-12) over Dave Ward (23-6.1) (12-13). Lambert allowed 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. LF Lou Baggett (26-4.2) had 3 hits with a triple, scored a run and had 2 RBIs.

Elsewhere:
Down in the Tri-State League (B), John Novack (23-7.9) of the Mansfield Electricians tossed a no-hitter at the Columbus Senators. Mansfield won 5 to 1. Novack walked 3 and struck out 4. He improved his record to 20-8 with a 1.96 ERA. He pitched a 1-hitter a few weeks ago. He was playing college ball this Spring.

Louisville Bourbons (44-62 .415 28.5 GB in 8th (last) place in the Liberty League) at
Detroit Wolverines (73-34 .682 in 1st place)

Count Childs, Lou. (32-3.1) (R 5-14 4.88 10.2-2.7-4.2 H/9-BB/9-SO/9) vs. Jiggs Niedermeyer, Det. (25-5.8) (R 10-6 2.27 7.9-1.6-3.2)

We are 1-1 against Childs, but he has pitched well both times.

Lost - 3 to 1

They did not get their 1st hit until the 4th, but we made 4 errors and gave them 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Didn't we used to be a good fielding team?

Niedermeyer allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.

Childs gave us 5 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2.

We made 6 errors and Louisville made 5.

3B Jesse Flanders (28-5.4) had 2 hits, stole a base and scored a run. C Jimmy Babcock (31-6.9) hit a double and had an RBI.

Liberty League:
Boston (9) at Indianapolis (7): Freddy Wood (32-6.3) (9-8) over Levi Giddens (36-4.8) (10-18). CF Pat Stafford (27-5.4) had 4 hits with a triple and his 3rd home run of the season, scored 3 runs and had 4 RBIs. 2B Mike Stables (32-7.1) had 3 hits with his 8th home run of the year and 3 RBIs. RF Jocko Breton (25-4.5) hit his 2nd home run of the year.

Cincinnati (2) at Pittsburgh (0): Charlie Branham (28-4.2) (23-18) over Whitey Mathews (25-4.1) (23-20). Branham allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 3 in his 4th shutout of the season. Mathews allowed 7 hits, no walks and struck out 1.

New York (6) at Cleveland (1): Tom McDowell (24-8.0) (18-14) over Artie Boucher (25-6.1) (12-22). McDowell allowed 7 hits, 1 walk and struck out 2. At bat, he had 2 hits. 2B Dave Hay (26-5.7) hit his 7th home run of the year.

Grand National Association:
Washington (3) at Providence (1) Game 1: Pop Yurkovich (36-5.6) (17-22) over Ed Hodges (28-3.2) (17-15). Yurkovich allowed 6 hits, 4 walks and struck out 4.

Washington (13) at Providence (3) Game 2: Sammy Berry (28-5.5) (9-10) over Ed Wison (27-7.3) (12-14). Berry allowed 6 hits, 1 walk and struck out 1. Rookie 1B Dick Blake (27-6.7) had 3 hits and a walk, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. He is now hitting .337 in 45 games.

Chicago (2) at St. Louis (6): Fred Barrow (36-4.7) (10-20) over Pat Seguin (24-4.4) (24-20). Losing to Fred Barrow with your ace pitching is not how you win pennants. Barrow allowed 4 hits, 3 walks and struck out 3. For the Colts, rookie LF Ed Marsh (23-8.7), playing in his 6th game, pulled a muscle and will miss a month.

Brooklyn (5) at Omaha (3): Al Green (25-3.8) (18-25) over Royal Parmelee (27-6.5) (1-4). RF Tom Campbell (30-3.6) had 2 hits with his 3rd home run of the season and drew a walk.

Kansas City (6) at Milwaukee (15): Al Bedingfield (25-2.8) (5-3) over Al McClaughry (24-5.6) (14-17). Kansas City made 10 errors. RF Ted Steeves (26-4.2) had 2 hits with his 6th home run of the season, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBIs. Rookie CF Ed Sudduth (25-4.4) had 3 hits, scored 3 runs and had an RBI.

Elsewhere:
Down in the International League (A), our Syracuse Stars beat the Buffalo Bisons, 1 to 0, in 12 innings. P Ed Price (24-5.7) went the distance and only allowed 2 hits, no walks and struck out 9. At bat, he had 2 hits with a double. He is now 13-8 with a 1.66 ERA for Syracuse. But I said that he is done in Detroit and he is done in Detroit.
