Canada - Lightweights - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Arthur King 3-1-1 (3) vs Tony Pep 1-1-0 (1) -
Another workman like effort from King as he dominated early then with the lead was happy to work from outside as Pep tried to rally. Going the distance, the scores were 146-141, 146-140 & 145-141 for King.

Armand Savoie 6-1-1 (4) vs Danny Webb 2-1-0 (1) -
This one was uneventful most of the first 10 rounds, with Webb doing enough to edge the most rounds with his biggest round the 10th when he scored a flash knockdown, the only one of the bout. Savoie tried for the KO from the 11th on, and the pace quickened for both fighters as he was not able to get the big shot. It was close, I had Webb up by 2 points through 15. The judges had it 143-142, 143-142 and 143-143 for the winner by majority decision, securing the upset, Webb.

Al Ford 3-1-0 (0) vs Billy Irwin 2-1-0 (0) -
Ford, the favorite started fast, taking 4 of the first 6 rounds only to have Irwin come back and dominate the middle rounds, culminating in a shocking 11th round knockdown. Ford stormed back to make it competitive, but Irwin survived the storm well to take the 143-142, 145-140 and 144-141 decision.

Dave Castilloux 4-1-0 (1) vs Richie Howard 2-1-0 (1) -
This one was as action packed as it was brief, with Castilloux being cut on the inside of the right brow in the 1st round, then furiously trying to get to Howard before the cut became serious. Howard targeted the cut the entire way and reopened it in the 3rd, then again in the 5th for the TKO on cuts and a minor upset.

Canada - Lightweights - Semi-Finals

Semi-Finals:

Arthur King 4-1-1 (3) vs Danny Webb 3-1-0 (1) -
A good scrap early saw Webb cut in the 3rd round then it reopened in the 5th for the TKO by King.

Richie Howard 3-1-0 (2) vs Billy Irwin 3-1-0 (0) -
A good close fight with Howard moving well at times, punishing Irwin with 2 shots for every bomb landed by Irwin. Howard was badly cut on the left eyelid in the 12th, but his corner did a great job of closing it as Howard surged at the end to take the 143-142, 146-143 and 141-144 split decision.

Canada - Lightweights - Final

Final:

Arthur King 5-1-1 (4) vs Richie Howard 4-1-0 (2) -
A close bout that heated up in the 3rd, only to have Howard cut in the 4th then have it reopen in the 5th for the TKO on cuts. King was up 48-47 on all three cards at the time of the stop and improves to 6-1-1 (5) heading into his first World Tournament.

Canada - Featherweights - Round 1

We have 13 fighters in the Featherweight Division so will have 3 byes, Last years winner, George Dixon, 4-1-0 (1), Leo Roy, 2-1-0 (1) and Al Foreman 1-1-0 (0).

Round 1:

Art Hafey 1-1-0 (1) vs Dave Fitzgerald 0-1-0 (0) -
Hafey's power seems to come suddenly, after rounds of softening his target with a withering inside attack as he dropped Fitzgerald early and late in the 7th round for the KO.

Pete DeGrasse 1-1-0 (0) vs Ted Timmoney 0-1-0 (0) -
Timmoney built up a decent lead, not by mixing it up, but by staying away and tossing weak punches in select situations to frustrate DeGrasse. DeGrasse finally got to Timmoney late in the 8th round with a devastating cross followed by a solid uppercut that finished Timmoney's dream of an upset.

Jackie Callura 1-1-0 (0) vs Lou Alter 0-1-0 (0) -
Callura was in firm control of this bout, then ended it in the 6th by way of TKO when he reopened a gash on the inside of the right brow of Alter early in the round.

Spider Armstrong 0-0-0 (0) vs Johnny LaVack 1-1-0 (1) -
A close bout that saw Armstrong break it open in the 9th, dropping LaVack for an 8 count at the start of the round then pile it on until the referee called it a night to protect the clearly dazed and confused LaVack from serious injury.

Frankie Almond 1-1-0 (1) vs St. John Tommy Kelly 0-1-0 (0) -
Kelly came out on fire, clearly taking the first 4 rounds only to have Almond drop him in the 5th then not letting him off the hook, scoring the KO in the 6th.

Canada - Featherweights - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

George Dixon 4-1-0 (1) vs Frankie Almond 2-1-0 (2) -
Pure domination by Dixon as he landed 43 shots per round while holding Almond to under 10 landed shots a round. Dixon wore his man down, then dropped him in the 11th, 13th and 14th rounds before the referee finally stopped the carnage for the TKO.

Leo Roy 2-1-0 (1) vs Spider Armstrong 1-0-0 (1) -
Roy dominated the first two rounds and looked to be in charge when he was gashed on the inside of the right eyebrow in the 3rd round. He went into protective mode from there and Armstrong took over, then reopened the gash, sending claret flying early in the 4th for the big upset TKO win.

Al Foreman 1-1-0 (0) vs Jackie Callura 2-1-0 (1) -
A real miscarriage of justice in this one as Callura controlled most of the fight in the eyes of most observers despite going down in the 8th. He closed strong, seemingly securing the upset win only to have the judges score it 145-139 Callura and 142-142 (x2) for the majority draw.

Art Hafey 2-1-0 (2) vs Pete DeGrasse 2-1-0 (1) -
Hafey started fast and closed strong with a 13th round knockdown enroute to the solid 145-138, 143-140 and 144-139 decision.

Rematch:

Al Foreman 1-1-1 (0) vs Jackie Callura 2-1-1 (1) -
Callura started fast, taking 5 out of the first 7 rounds on all three cards, but Foreman came back, scoring knockdowns in the 8th and 13th rounds to earn the 143-140 (x2) 142-141 decision.

Canada - Featherweights - Semi-Finals

Semi-Finals:

George Dixon 5-1-0 (2) vs Spider Armstrong 2-0-0 (2) -
Dixon worked almost exclusively from his toes, moving well and at times dominating. Armstrong got a lucky punch in the 11th for the knockdown, which helped close the gap but Dixon finished strong with high scoring 13th and 14th rounds to earn the surprisingly close 143-142, 145-140 & 142-144 split decision.

Al Foreman 2-1-1 (0) vs Art Hafey 3-1-0 (2) -
Foreman fought a clever and accurate defensive bout, despite losing a point in the 8th round for his 3rd low blow of the fight. Formen landed 49.4% of his shots while holding Hafey to a paltry 20% to earn the 146-139, 144-141 and 145-140 decision.

Canada - Featherweights - Final

Final:

George Dixon 6-1-0 (2) vs Al Foreman 3-1-1 (0) -
Dixon has a tendency to get lazy at times, and after building up a big lead against Foreman ended up on the canvas yet again in the 8th round. He got up and back on his Bicycle to earn the 145-140 (x3) decision and improve to 7-1-0 (2) heading into his second Tournament.

Canada - Bantamweights - Quarter-Finals

We have 6 fighters in this one, so the top two seeds will receive byes in the Quarter-Finals. They are last tourney's entrant Fernando Gagnon, 5-1-0 (3) and Carl Tremaine 2-1-0 (1).

Quarter-Finals:

Vic Foley 0-1-0 (0) vs Halifax Young Johnson 0-1-0 (0) -
Foley worked the body well, taking the legs out from under Johnson then going up top in the 6th with a short clean uppercut that caught Johnson flush for the KO.

Stan Almond 1-1-0 (0) vs Barney McCall 0-1-0 (0) -
Almond dropped McCall in the 3rd, but McCall worked from outside to keep it close, with Almond taking 3 of the final 5 rounds to pull out the 143-141, 144-140 and 143-141 decision.

Canada - Bantamweights - Semi-Finals

Semi-Finals:

Fernando Gagnon 5-1-0 (3) vs Stan Almond 2-1-0 (0) -
Gagnon broke open a closer than expected fight with a 7th round knockdown, then opened a gash directly on the left eyebrow that tore open again in the 8th for the TKO.

Carl Tremaine 2-1-0 (1) vs Vic Foley 1-1-0 (1) -
After splitting two uneventful rounds, Tremaine and Foley embarked on a war in the 3rd that was RoY quality. The aftermath of that was major swelling around the left eye of Tremaine, and it came into play the very next round as Tremaine didn't see the wild right hand by Foly and was decked for the count!

Canada - Bantamweights - Final

Final:

Fernando Gagnon 6-1-0 (4) vs Vic Foley 2-1-0 (2) -
Foley went down in the 2nd round then reeled off several strong rounds to take the lead through the 9th round. Gagnon stormed back however, dominating from the 10th on to earn the 143-141 decision on all three cards. Gagnon improves to 7-1-0 (4) heading into his second World Tournament.

Canada - Flyweights

We have two fighters in the Flyweight Division so we go straight to the Final.

Final:

Albert Belanger 0-1-0 (0) vs Scotty Olson 0-0-0 (0) -
The momentum of this bout was such that there were 3 distinct 5 round fights as Olsen stormed out to the early lead with good pressure before Belanger adjusted, using his legs well to close the gap through 10. Olsen landed some huge shots in the final 5 rounds including knockdowns in the 11th and 12th rounds to close strong and take the decision 144-139, 144-139 and 143-141 to move to his first World Tournament with a 1-0-0 (0) record.

Chile - Complete

I will do all weight classes on this post for Chile.

The heavyweight division has 2 fighters so we will go straight to the final.

HW Final:

Arturo Godoy 1-1-0 (1) vs Quintin Romero Rojas 0-0-0 (0) -
A dominant performance despite losing a point in the 5th as Godoy earns the TKO on the strength of a withering attack that netted a pair of knockdowns, the last one in the fatal 7th for the TKO. Godoy moves to the World Tourney with a 2-1-0 (2) record.

CW:

Carlos Cruzat
goes to his second World Tournament with a 0-1-0 (0) record.

MW:

Renato Garcia
enters the World Tourney for the first time with a 0-0-0 (0) record.

WW:

Joel Mayo, 0-1-0 (0)
is the default entrant for the 2nd straight Tourney. in the Welterweight division.

With a pair of fighters in the LW division, we have a single bout.

LW Final:

Stanislaus Loayza 2-1-0 (1) vs Carlos Uribe 0-1-0 (0) -
They met last year with Loayza earning the World Tournament Berth. This time it was a close bout with Uribe landing a wild overhand right to deck the favorite for the 5th round KO upset! Uribe moves to his first World Tournament with a 1-1-0 (1) record.

Only a pair of warriors in the Bantamweights.

BW Final:

Cardenio Ulloa 1-1-0 (0) vs Bernardo Manuel Mendoza 0-1-0 (0) -
Ulloa holds a decision over Mendoza. Mendoza came in a big underdog, but started fast, taking 4 of the first 5 rounds only to have Mendoza storm back, dropping him in the 8th and bloodying him in the process. The cut, a gash on the bridge of the nose seeped claret at an alarming rate in the 10th for the TKO on cuts for Ulloa who improves to 2-1-0 (1) heading into his second World Tournament.

Only one fighter in the Flyweight division, so Martin Vargas moves into his second World Tournament with a 1-1-0 (1) record.

We have 4 fighters in the Jr. Flyweight Division so will start with the Semi-Finals.

JFLY Semi-Finals:

Alli Galvez 0-1-0 (0) vs Fernando Sagredo 0-1-0 (0) -
Galvez dominated, flooring Sagredo in the 9th then reopening a gash on the forehead from the 5th round in the 12th round for the TKO on cuts.

Jaime Miranda 2-1-1 (2) vs Jose Badilla 1-1-0 (0) -
Miranda scored a 9th round TKO the first time they met. In this one Miranda opened a small cut on the forehead of Badilla in the 2nd round and targeted it in a tight affair, widening it nearly every round until the fight was stopped for the TKO in the 7th. 2 cards even and Miranda up a point on the 3rd card at the time of the stop.

JFLY Final:

Alli Galvez 1-1-0 (1) vs Jaime Miranda 3-1-1 (3) -
Miranda was the last tourney entrant, but was still the underdog when he met Galvez for the first time. A tight bout with both men having a high work rate, but neither showing power or accuracy saw Miranda pull off the close upset 143-142, 143-143 and 143-142 for the majority decision and his second straight World Tournament with a 4-1-1 (3) record.

Note:

Had a minor burp with most of the results from Chile as I didn't save when I should and had a crash. I'm keeping the results, but not bothering to edit the records as it's a pain in the butt. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Two fighters again in this division so straight to the finals:

Alejandro Berrio 2-1-0 (2) vs Juan Carlos Viloria - Berrio holds a KO win over Viloria. Berrio scored knockdowns in the 2nd and 5th rounds then piled it on in a huge 10th round though Viloria stayed on his feet. With the crowd yelling for the fight to be stopped the referee stepped in at the 2:19 mark for the TKO. Berrio improves to 3-1-0 (3) as he earns his 2nd Tournament Berth.
