I'm at the 1976 all-stars break and when the game did his card he didn't have glasses, so if you prefer him with them this is what I have in my database.

I prefer my clean shaven one but I gave him a spin since it was requested... Can't find a picture of Dick Green with facial hair that I'd be able to get acceptable result with... sorry

If someone could do Bill Atkinson with this picture for me that would be appreciated. I'm not the best to make FG from a B&W picture or to remove smile and this is one of the best picture for him I have found.

The FG in the database is way too dark so I gave him another try using a black and white picture. Edit: This is the picture I used https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/3U4AA...7g/s-l1600.jpg

(percolaten, I'm fairly sure the game itself lets you add any facial hair you choose.)
JIm Jenkins didn't really accomplish much. He had those two good months for Charlotte in 1966 (hence the AI's interest), but other than that he didn't really set the Southern League on fire, and he flopped in three shots at Denver. But he did get an invite to Twins camp in 1968, and photographic proof of such. (Not Dick Such; he didn't become a Twin until he started coaching.) Image courtesy of Home Free in the "Minor League Players" thread. Colorization by his pal, "Zappa". (Unknown if the work was done in Joe's Garage.) Last edited by Amazin69; 01-25-2022 at 05:49 PM. |

Jim Jenkins
On his MLB questionnaire he was asked for the name of the scout that signed him. It was some guy named "Tom Lasorda." Here's Jim Jenkins...

Bill Atkinson
Bill Atkinson grew up in Chatham, Ontario, the hometown of Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins, and benefitted from tips from his famous neighbor while pitching for amateur teams in the area. He was signed by the Montreal Expos on his 17th birthday and climbed through the organization quickly, reaching AAA in 1975. He was the top reliever for the 1976 Denver Bears, who won the American Association championship, picking up 15 saves that summer.
Bill was called up to Montreal in September 1976 and did not allow a run in four outings. He made the Expos out of spring training in 1977 and had a solid rookie season, with a 7-2 record and 7 saves in 55 games. His career took a bad turn on June 29, 1978, when he hurt his groin sliding into home plate to score the winning run of the Pearson Cup exhibition game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He came back in September, after spending some more time in Denver, where he was rocked, with a 7.41 ERA in 23 games. He failed to make the team in 1979 and the Expos sold his contract to the Chicago White Sox, but he never pitched in the majors again. I cheated on the B&W picture and found a color one to work with... Redid the facegen.

Dick Green
Second base was a revolving door for the Oakland A’s during their 1972-74 dynasty – the team used 17 players at that position. The closest thing to a regular was steady veteran Dick Green. Though he missed most of 1972 after surgery on a herniated disc in his back, he recovered in time for the postseason. Green – who wore uniform number 1, as befit the senior man in terms of service with the club – remained Oakland’s primary second baseman in ’73 and ’74, during the regular season, playoffs, and World Series. Despite going hitless in the ’74 Series against the Dodgers, he was a strong MVP candidate because of his superb fielding.
There were many other excellent glove men among Green’s American League peers, which explains in part why he never won a Gold Glove during his career. Despite that, he was universally recognized as one of the best in the business, and the available advanced metrics confirm that he was well above average in the field. Green had some power before his back became a problem, but his hitting was up and down – moderate at best. “I’m lucky, the caliber ballplayer I am, to get my eight or nine years in,” he said ahead of the 1972 season. “I work very hard for everything. I’ve got to concentrate so much.” Still, all in all, he was an integral part of Oakland’s success. The color picture was tough. His face wasn't as wide as that picture makes it appear. Lots of shadows on it too and despite the smoothing, the mustache isn't perfect but if you can look past that it might meet the intent. Either way, here's my attempt at Dick Green with a mustache from that picture. |

Fine with me since I only took that picture because there was no shadows... Thanks! Awesome as usual.

Yeah, sure, LaSorda signed Jim Jenkins…but he wouldn't pony up the money to sign Tom Seaver. "Good luck with your dental career." Well, Tom didn't actually become a dentist, but he knocked the Dodgers' teeth down their throats a time or twenty…does that count?
Meanwhile, as the game reaches the end of 1966, Minnesota leads Baltimore by two games with five remaining. But the Orioles will be hosting the final 3-game series of the year, so who knows what will happen? It's certainly surprising that the White Sox are tied for 2nd. But they're getting great work from the John/Peters/Horlen mound trio (backed up by Bob Bruce, who's gone 14-3 since the Southsiders got him off of waivers) and they're leading the League in Batting Average and OBP. Not so much power, though. (8th in a 10-team league.). Pretty much just catcher John Romano, who has hit 27 of the team's 119 dingers. Who's backing him up? Why, Felix De Leon. The Puerto Rico native (born on New Years' Day, 1941) was originally in the Cardinal chain, and tore up the Pioneer league in a year and a half at Billings, earning a jump all the way to AA Tulsa for the back half of 1963, where his bat continued to sizzle. (.886 OPS). Noting this, the Cardinals…sent him back to A-ball, where Felix starred for Winnipeg in 1964 and Raleigh in '65. And then…St. Louis let him go, and he spent 1966 splitting time between three ChiSox farms, still hitting well at every stop. (.814 at AA Evansville.). And…that was it, even though he was only 25 and a catcher. (I'm guessing he kept on playing south of the border, but Baseball-Reference doesn't track those stats.) Fortunately, Pepsi did a promotional card set during De Leon's brief time in Tulsa, so we have a pic: ![]() (Felix has responded to the chance the AI has given him by…hitting a resounding .148. Somewhere the Cardinals are laughing, probably.) |

I tried my hand with Felix DeLeon but for some reasons I don't understand when I load the Fg in the game it looks nothing like what I did with FG Modeller... I post the FG but I have zero doubt that LansdowneSt will get a better result later so I don't want that one added to the set.

Felix DeLeon
DeLeon was a catcher turned outfielder in the Cardinals and White Sox organizations. He had two outstanding minor league seasons alas they were in Class C and Class A ball. In 1962 Felix DeLeon hit .344 with 37 HR (breaking Dick Stuart's then Pioneer League reccord), 125 RBI's and 121 walks for the Billing Mustangs with an out of this world of 1.220. In a move up to Class A Winnipeg in 1964, DeLeon repeated his success with 27 HR 96 RBI's and a ,338 mark in only 109 games. His professional career would quickly in 1966. He never made it past AA where played a scant 50 games where he was not out of his depth and but not outstanding. .273 with 3 homeruns. This photo is from his only action with the Texas league Tulsa Oilers. He played well at age 22 but the native of Puerto Rico would advance no further. - info lifted from PinsonHOF from the thread next door w/ Minor League pictures...
Here's my go at Felix. Put in a Texas uniform just so I could have a "T" in the hat as I tweaked it and compared to the photo as best I could. |

Thanks.
Truth be told, Rick Hense never had much success. Yes, he went .295/.333/.426 at Denver in 1970, but that was only 65 games, and it was Denver. Meh, IMO. Still, he got an invite to Spring Training in 1969 (it's not as if the Senators couldn't use the help) and had a picture taken: Image courtesy of baseball-birthdays.com |

Rick Hense
Mine won't be too bad this time because the minor league player picture was professional quality... thanks! Washington isn't part of my simulation anymore so I put him in Twins gears.

This one might be tough, but could anyone do a manager-era Sparky Anderson?
