Hey, look at that ... Fred Steward wins Rookie of the Month for the Bama Boars.

Outstanding starting month for the Boars, despite poor overall offense. The team utilized pitching, timely hitting, speed and defense to win close games, while suffering some big losses.

The team is off to a great start, but the fans ain't buying it ... or they're still upset after the team traded away Neary and Murphy .. or both. Things need to turn around or the team is going to be operating at a loss this season.

Owner is pretty happy ... he went from "play close to .500 ball" to "make the playoffs" pretty darn quick.

The normally solid Boar defense let SP Mike Melchor down early in the game, leading to 3 unearned runs. The bullpen kept NO scoreless for the 3 innings, but the offense could not get much going.

Booska delivered back to back good outings, producing a QS, While Green earned the 3 inning save, striking out 5 over those 3 innings.

Jim Curd put the game out of reach with a 3RBI double to the RC gap in the top of the 8th.

Struggling Chourio had his best game of the season, and hopefully a slump buster, as he put the Boars ahead for good with his 2nd RBI of the game, going 3-4 in the process.

Rookie of the Month in April, Steward started off May scattering 7 H over 5 IP, allowing just a lone run to New Orleans. The bullpen collection of King, Moore, and Gauer threw 4 scoreless innings to preserve the win for 'Bama. Gauer is now 7-7 in save opps in 2035.

Takiuchi was very efficient and effective, allowing just 7 runners and 2 runs over 8 innings. Maddox put the Boars ahead with a SF in the 10th, earning Glazman his 3rd win of the season as he settles into his reliever role after being moved from the rotation in favor of talented Mike Melchor.

Star 2B Roberson in his minor league rehab, hopefully joining the Boars soon.

Martinez Jr battled through the early innings and was close to getting out of it in the 5th .... but left him in for one batter too many, 3 run job ended his day and put the game out of reach.

Mike 'Tough Luck' Melchor cannot catch a break. He moves to 0-3, despite another QS. The offense couldn't put a run on the board in the 2nd loss of the series.

Speed and contact produce runs early. Kortz led off the game with a walk, stole 2B, and was driven in on Maddox single. In the 3rd, the Boars executed a double steal (their 1st of the year) , and Calloway drove in both runs with a single to right center.

Booska and the Bullpen ... Boo produced another QS, and the Boars went with traditional use of the BP, with a new reliever in the 7-8-9 innings. Moore, Stevens, and Gauer finished off the game, not allowing a run or even a hit over the last 3 innings, to stave off the sweep in Jaxsonville.
