Bah, I just don't match up well with the Beavers. They stomped me in the Heavier weightclasses going 13-3 which was just to big of a hole for me to climb out of as their lower weight classes are good enough to hang with mine. You know it would be one thing if it was a close match and I losted by a couple of points but we were never in it. They just jumped on us and never let up. Well, congrats to the BigMatt and the Breavers as they proved that their still the class of the Gold Division.

Condolences Romy. Seems my luck still holds. Congrats on getting to the finals. Yours is a team on the rise.
Pender KO1 to Basilio has to put an exclamation point next to his release announcement. At least one consolation...Tellez did keep the title. Now it's Lipton time. Last edited by bigMatt; 10-27-2006 at 05:45 PM. |

Season 2: Comeback Fighter of the Year (Gold)
Candidate #1:

Season 2: Comeback Fighter of the Year (Gold)
Candidate #2:
Flyweight - Young Perez (Tile Hill Top Team) Young Perez spent his rookie season as a member of the UTBA Champion Bonner Spring Bald Beavers. His disappointing performance left him out in the cold at the end of the season. But that didn't last long. He was picked up by the Tile Hill Top Team and showed quite an improvement. He actually posted a 3-0-1 (0) record against his old team the season. Young Perez heads into the EOY Tournament as the #10 seed. Season 1 Record: 5-7-2 (0) Opponents Average Rating: 5.28 Season 2 Record: 11-6-3 (1) Points Scored: 26 Average Opponents Rating: 5.40 Key Victories: W-U12 Candido Tellez (rated 8), W-DQ7 Sot Chitalada (rated 8), W-U12 Guty Espadas (rated 8) |

Season 2: Comeback Fighter of the Year (Gold)
Candidate #3:
Middleweight - Gomeo Brennan (Tomato City) After a hideous rookie campaign, its a wonder why Tomato City kept him around. Well he proved the nay-sayers wrong and finished season 2 5 victories over .500. Maybe its the fact that this guy can really take a beating. He was only stopped once this season - the first time in his career. When you fight Gomeo, pack a lunch... Season 1 Record: 2-8-4 (1) Opponents Average Rating: 7.00 Season 2 Record: 12-7-1 (5) Points Scored: 30 Average Opponents Rating: 6.40 Key Victories: W-M12 Jock McAvoy (rated 8) |

Season 2: Comeback Fighter of the Year (Gold)
Candidate #4
Middleweight - Terry Downes (Tile Hill Top Team) Another good move by the Hilltoppers was to keep Terry Downes around. He made a good improvement over last season. Terry managed to put together a 5 bout winning streak in the 2nd half of this season. He also had the opportunity to twice fight for the Middleweight Championship - losing both by TKO to CH-Mickey Walker. Terry Downes heads into the EOY Tournament as the #10 seed. Season 1 Record: 6-7-1 (3) Opponents Average Rating: 6.92 Season 2 Record: 11-8-1 (7) Points Scored: 30 Opponents Average Rating: 6.75 Key Victories: W-KO5 Carmen Basilio (rated 9) |

Season 2: Comeback Fighter of the Year (Gold)
Candidate #5:
Featherweight - Patrick Ford (Tomato City) Patrick Ford is a former Featherweight Champion. Unfortunately he was unable to hold onto the title and was defeated in his first title defense. Given a second crack at the title also ended in defeat, but no one can take away the fact that he was indeed a champion - if only for a week. Patrick Ford heads into the EOY Tournament as the #16 seed. Season 1 Record: 5-8-1 (3) Opponents Average Rating: 6.07 Season 2 Record: 13-7-0 (5) Points Scored: 31 1-2-0 (1) Record in Championship Bouts Opponents Average Rating: 6.50 Key Victories: W-TKO2 Jeff Fenech (rated 9), W-TKO7 CH-Jeff Fenech (rated 9), W-M12 Battling Battalino (rated 9) |

The 5 candidates for the Gold Conference Comeback Fighter of the Year have been posted.
Gold Conference managers please send 3 selections rated 1-3 (1-highest, 3-lowest) to SAL. As always "write-in" selections are welcome. |

Is there any place to view season 1 stats vs. season 2? I think Luis Maldonado might have done considerably better in season 2, and briefly held the title. Not sure what his first season looked like, but I know he was well under the .500 mark.

In Season 2, Maldonado finished 10-8-2 (10). When trying to narrow down the candidate list (originally 9) I tried to keep guys with the biggest turnaround. Since Maldonado technically finished the regular season with a .500 record, he was bumped. For anyone else interested, the other guys that I was considering were: LHW - Chris Finnegan (Punching Gatitos) Season 1 Record: 6-7-1 (3) Season 2 Record: 11-9-0 (4) MW - Charley Humez (Punching Gatitos) Season 1 Record: 6-6-2 (1) / 0-1-0 in EOY Tournament Season 2 Record: 10-7-3 (4) MW - Paul Pender (Muckboys) Season 1 Record: 6-6-2 (0) / 0-1-0 in EOY Tournament Season 2 Record: 11-9-0 (1) Feel free to vote for your guy anyways. State your case and maybe build a grassroot campaign for him. Sorry I didn't put him on the ballot, but he just didn't fit the criteria I was using to whittle the field down. Good luck. |

Ha, Paul Pender gets some consideration for the Comeback Fighter of the year in the same season he gets cut. Nobody should vote for that cat he's horrible, he scored a whole one KO, got KOed quite a few times, and everytime I needed him to step up and win a big fight he blew it.

Ah, check about 15 posts up and you'll see that Pender is no longer a Muckboy. So I feel no need to defend him anymore, he was horrible and the moment I cut him was a truly glorious one.

The only thing that I am certain of about my team is that Georges Carpentier has to be a strong ROY candidate. Winning the title twice while facing more experienced talent has to go get high marks.
