Hm, thats great news that Aurelio is getting another shot at the title but I must say I don't really like his chances against Freddie Welsh. If I'm not mistaken Welsh is the kind of slick boxer that Aurelio has always stuggled against. My heart is with Aurelio and I'll be rooting for him but my head is saying Welsh by wide UD.

Welsh isn't a good match up for him, but he stands a bit better than a punchers chance ... they way Aurelio walked through both Erne's you never know.

Well, lets hope then that Aurelio shows up in the same form as the Erne fights. It'd be great if he could pick up another belt.

I'll be pulling for him. He has one really bad loss to Eddie Hanlon and one "he shoulda won" fight vs. Chambers.

His other 7 losses are all acceptable. 2 to Jem Driscoll, 2 to Young Griffo, 2 to Abe Attell and one to Young Corbett.

Samson-Korner defends EBU title

June 1, 1911

Paul Samson-Korner (14/10) (18-1)(pre) scored a UD12 over Yvon Bonsaint (UR) (4-2-2)(pre) for his first defense of the EBU HW title.

Over the first 7 rounds Bonsaint hung in there, then he hung on the last 5.

Bonsaint's left eye started to swell in the 6th. Samson-Korner put the challenger down in the 9th and twice in the 10th but couldn't finish him off.

I had it 117-108. Shane Macleod (RE) had it 116-110. The official judges had it 116-110/116-110/116-109.

On the undercard

MW - Jeff Clarke (36/19) (17-2) UD10 Tom Henry (58/64) (9-7-3) (clarke at pre)

LW - Jack Blackburn (1/1) (29-12-5) UD10 Irish Jack Smith (97/97) (9-11) (smith at pre)

HW - Frank Childs (68/60) (22-17-6) KO4 Charles Hadley (110/112) (18-21-3) (Hadley at end)

HW - Tom Carter (UR) (6-3-2) MD8 James Robertson Couper (UR) (7-3-2) (both at pre for this club fight)

Johnson beats Jackson again

June 2, 1911

Jack Johnson (2/CH) (41-3) scored a TKO8 after pummeling Peter Jackson (1/1) (36-7-2) to win the new WBO HW title. The WBO is the 4th and final world title and the HW division is the first to crown the champ.

Johnson has now won 4 in a row over Jackson since Peter won a UD10 way back in May of 1900. This is the third title Johnson has won.

Jackson came out fast winning the first three rounds. Johnson, a notoriously slow starter, started to come alive in the 4th catching Jackson with power shots.

In the 7th, Johnson opened a cut over the right eye of Jackson. The landed shot after shot until the bell ended. Both of Jackson's eyes were swelling. In the 8th Johnson opened a cut over the left eye of Jackson. He reopened the cut over the right eye and that was it. Jackson was a swollen and bloody mess.

First time a fight between the two didn't go the distance.

I had it 67-66 Jackson at the stoppage.

On the undercard

MW - Tom Norton (UR/23) (13-2) KO7 Billy Manning (73/75) (7-9) (both at pre)

LW - Charlie White (49/37) (15-9-3) TKO6 Billy Young (42/52) (13-4) (young at pre)

FW - Martin Flaherty (30/25) (13-11-4) UD10 Hugh McWinters (UR) (10-3-1) 99-93 (mcwinters at pre)

HW - Terry Kellar (51/49) (13-6-1) TKO4 Jim Harvey (123/123) (9-11-1) (both at pre)

HW - Paddy Ryan (club) (13-15-2) KO7 William Demington (UR) (1-4-1) (demington at pre for this club fight)

Dillon wins first title

June 3, 1911

Jack Dillon (1/CH) (21-0) scored a UD15 over George Byers (4/4) (17-9-1) to win the vacant WBC LH title.

His 21st win also moves into a 3 way tie for 3rd longest winning streak. He is tied with Young Peter Jackson and Joe Jeannette. Jeannette's 21 straight also came at the beginning of his career. He now trails only Tommy Ryan (34) and Jack Johnson (33).

This bout was close for the first 8 rounds, then Byers seemed to run out of gas abit. Dillon controlled the final 7 rounds to run away with the victory.

I had it 145-141. Niklas Peternek (RE) had it a little closer at 144-142. The official judges had it 145-140/146-140/145-140.

On the undercard

WW - Kid Graves (14/11) (19-5-2) SD10 Paddy Duffy (26/32) (17-17-4) 96-94 (duffy at post)

FW - Fred Johnson (16/10) (18-3-1) TKO8 Tommy White (27/35) (14-9-3) (johnson at pre)

BW - Morris Rauch (55/31) (12-9-1) UD10 Bill Baxter (UR) (10-3) (both at pre)

HW - Billy Wilson (92/85) (18-20-1) DQ3 Jack McCormick (108/109) (13-9) (mccormick at pre, wilson at post)

LH - Harry Baker (club) (8-15-4) UD10 Morris Heffey (club) (10-28-2) (heffey at end, Heffey retires after bout)

Johnson just won man give him a chance to enjoy it. On that note unification fights are rare and on purpose they are rare.

So first thing that would have to happen is both Langford and Johnson are scheduled in the same month. Then Langford would have a 25% chance of defending all his titles at the same time. Then they would have a 25% chance of facing each other.

So as you can see I would doubt a unification bout is in the near future.

Well, they might be rare but hopefully we can beat the odds cause Langford/Jackson for the undisputed championship would be fun times.

Boden retains regional title

June 7, 1911

Mike Boden (8/7) (15-1-4)(pre) retained his USBA title with a DRAW12 with Jack Hogan (UR) (13-0-1)(pre).

It appeared Boden would cruise to a victory winning the first 4 rounds easily including a knockdown in the 4th round. But that appeared to wake Hogan up and he won the next 4 rounds with a knockdown in the 6th and the 7th.

The fighters stayed on the outside and split the next 4 rounds.

I had it 114-113 Boden. Dan Cuoco (RE) had it 116-111 Hogan ??? The official judges had it 113-112/113-113/112-113. Boden moved to prime after the fight.

On the undercard

WW - Buddy Ryan (18/14) (15-16) UD10 Jimmy Clabby (59/59) (8-9-8) 96-94

BW - Dennis McFadden (49/39) (15-14-3) UD10 Nunc Wallace (36/49) (15-7-1) (wallace at pre)

WW - Dixie Kid (12/11) (23-15-5) UD10 Bill Quinn (42/48) (13-14-2)

LW - Jim Smith (42/35) (12-2-2) SD10 Joe Stein (81/86) (12-8-1) 96-93 Smith (both at pre)

FW - Billy Whistler (club) (14-15-7) TKO9 Austin Rice (club) (9-25-5) (rice at post for this club fight ... Rice stepped up to FW for this fight ... Rice was moved to end but got to stay at post with a 6-3-1 record in his last 10 bouts)
