Harvey keeps FLY title

May 26, 1911

Charley Harvey (CH) (15-3-4) scored a KO9 over Jack McDermott (2/3) (9-8) (pre) to retain the WBA Flyweight title.

Harvey was fighting a very lackluster fight and was down on all the scorecards when he scored the KO. Harvey was cut in the first under the right eye and it seemed to bother him and he couldn't put anything together. In the 9th Harvey caught McDermott with a right hook that put out the lights for the challenger.

I had it 78-75 McDermott at the stoppage.

On the undercard

WW - Jimmy Conley (18/13) (13-3-1) KO9 Dal Hawkins (29/35) (15-14-1) (conley at pre)

HW - Sunny Jim (44/32) (11-4-2) TKO1 (inj) Sam McVey (26/38) (28-8) (jim at pre .. mcvey just can't seem to get into the top 20)

FW - Tommy Warren (UR) (11-0) KO4 Tommy Connolly (36/44) (15-9-1) 29-28 (both at pre)

LH - Rough Thompson (48/40) (13-7-1) KO6 Ralph Calloway (55/55) (8-12-3) 49-45 (both at pre)

LW - Kid Farmer (club) (8-21-2) UD10 Gil Goulette (club) (11-20-1) (goulette moved up to LW for this club fight)

Driscoll cruises to 40th

May 27, 1911

Jem Driscoll (CH) (40-6-1) won nearly every round before scoring a TKO15 over Jack Downey (14/20) (14-8-1) to defend his IBF FW title for the 3rd time.

Driscoll was just a far superior fighter and this was a mismatch from the start. Downey's right eye started swelling in the 6, it was cur in the 8th. He was only dropped in the 15th and got up but the ref stopped it at that point. The cut was opened/reopened/worsened 4/3/3 and the bout was stopped 4 times to check it. Driscoll outlanded Downey on the average of 34-14 each round and landed 59% of his punches.

I had it 139-127.

On the undercard

LH - Charles McCoy (3/2) (31-9-3) TKO4 Billy Smith (52/53) (23-17-1) 29-26 (smith hasn't had the success at LH that I thought he would 1-3 since coming down)

MW - Jeff Clarke (32/24) (16-2) KO4 Tommy Cleary (34/40) (14-6-1) (both at pre)

WW - Kid Graves (16/14) (18-5-2) UD10 Cy Flynn (62/62) (9-12-1) (flynn at pre)

BW - Austin Rice (club) (9-24-5) UD8 Joe Russell (UR) (5-2-1) (russell at pre, Rice at post for this club fight)

LH - Fred Hicks (UR) (6-2-1) UD8 Cat Eye (UR) (4-2-3) (both at pre for this club fight)

No the rules are that he fights the top ranked fighter who is scheduled to fight and didn't lose his last fight. FW has a tourney going on so it knocked out a lot of the top ranked guys. I will schedule a non-title fight usually if there is not a top 20 guy who qualifies.

Beginners for June 1911

51 out of 123 beginners fought this month going 45-3-3 against the TC's.

Only two fighters moving up to club as most of the 1910 beginners are already gone.

HW - Jack Fitzgerald (7-0-1)

MW - Les Darcy (8-0)

Bob McAllister runs his record to 16-2-0 (8) with a UD8 over a TC here in June. McAllister is ranked 12th at this point.

i don't have the Washington state stuff .. but he is only rated a 2 so it is a good start even against stiffs. His loss was a UD8 to Jig Stone. Both draws were against TC's.

That's the gut I think. He was a Native American from Washington State that David rated. Kind of a tough life that he had.

Nice start though in your universe!
