				Australia - Jr. Lightweights - Fight-In

We have 5 fighters in this division, so there will be a fight-in bout to set the field at 4. The top seed is last years World Tournament entrant Robbie Peden who didn't live up to expectations in the tourney and has a 2-1-0 (1) record.

Fight-In: Barry Michael 0-1-0 (0) vs Mario Terre 0-1-0 (0) - Michael landed a wild overhand right midway through the 1st round, forcing Terre to take a knee and the count. Terre never arose from his knees and was counted out for the Michael KO. |

			Semi-Finals:

Robbie Peden 2-1-0 (1) vs Barry Michael 1-1-0 (1) - Peden tore a gash on the left eyelid of Michael in the 1st round and reopened it 26 seconds into the 2nd round for the TKO on cuts. Nedal Hussein 1-1-0 (0) vs Will Tomlinson 0-0-0 (0) - Another 1st round cut, this time suffered by Tomlinson led to the 4th round TKO on cuts for Hussein. Tomlinson was up on two of three cards through 3, as this one was competitive early despite the cut. |

Australia - Jr. Lightweights - Final

			Final:

Robbie Peden 3-1-0 (2) vs Nedal Hussein 2-1-0 (1) - These two met in the previous tourney final with Peden earning the 15th round unanimous decision. In this one Peden out boxed Hussein most of the way, but went down in the 7th round to a hammering right hand. He came back strong in the latter rounds, dropping Hussein with a brilliant combination in the 13th then held on to pull out the closer than expected 142-141, 144-138 and 142-141 decision that ended up hinging on the final round, dominated by a bleeding Peden. Peden goes to his second straight World Tournament with a 4-1-0 (2) record. |

				Australia - Featherweights - Round 1 - Part 1

We have 30 fighters in the Featherweight Division, so the top two seeds, last tourney's winner Young Griffo at 7-1-0 (2) and Johnny Famechon at 2-1-0 (0) will receive byes.

Round 1 - Part 1: Gairy St Clair 0-1-0 (0) vs Bill Holden 0-1-0 (0) - St Clair was in control throughout, dropping Holden in the 5th and 9th rounds but unable to finish him as he earned the 145-138, 146-137 & 145-139 decision. Bret Spargo 2-1-0 (1) vs Frisco McCaull 0-1-0 (0) - Spargo mauled McCaull for 13 rounds, but wasn't able to score a knockdown. After his 6th foul of the fight he was discualified in the 14th for the upset DQ win for McCaull who was down 127-119 on two cards and even at 123-123 on the 3rd. I had it 130-117 for Spargo myself. Young Pluto 1-1-0 (1) vs Frank McShane 0-1-0 (0) - Pluto was the stronger fighter, dropping McShane 3 times in the 4th round for the TKO win. Trevor King 0-1-0 (0) vs Young O'Brien 0-1-0 (0) - King outlanded O'Brien 51-6 in the 1st round before the referee had seen enough and halted the bout for the King TKO due to the beating being given out. Tim Hegarty 3-1-0 (0) vs Doss Patterson 0-1-0 (0) - Hegarty had is way in every round, dominating Patterson in every phase of the fight until the referee halted the bout near the end of the 9th round for the TKO by Hegarty. Bernie Grant 1-1-0 (0) vs Nipper Peakes 0-1-0 (0) - A dull affair saw Grant well up on the cards when a cut suffered in the 13th round on the left eyelid of Grant reopened in the 14th for the Peakes upset TKO win. Billy Dib 0-0-0 (0) vs Frank Silver 0-1-0 (0) - Dibb controlled the first half of the bout, scoring a pair of knockdowns in the 8th round then coasted to the 146-138, 144-140 and 146-140 decision over Silver. Jackson Asiku 0-1-0 (0) vs Cecil Tibby Watson 0-1-0 (0) - Asiku was in control throughout, building up a huge lead then finishing strong with 9th and 14th round knockdowns to earn the 146-138, 147-137 and 148-138 decision. |

				Australia - Featherweights - Round 1 - Part 2

			Round 1 - Part 2:

Mickey Miller 3-1-0 (3) vs Abe Willis 0-1-0 (0) - Willis survived a 2nd round knockdown to take the lead against the favored Miller, but a cut on his forehead that opened in the 5th round due to an accidental butt reopened in the 7th, and this fight was declared a technical draw. Eddie Miller 1-1-0 (1) vs Tony Wehbee 0-1-0 (0) - After an action packed 1st round, a quiet 2nd, Miller took over, scoring a knockdown in the 3rd then opening a gash on the right eyelid of Wehbee later in the round. He reopened it then widened it in the 4th for the TKO on cuts. Wally Taylor 1-1-0 (0) vs Barry Hatcher 1-1-0 (1) - Taylor boxed a smart fight, but Hatcher's power came into play, making for several close rounds though Taylor moved ahead. Hatcher scored a wild looping right that dropped Taylor in the 10th, but Taylor's accuracy caused serious swelling around the right eye that ended up stopping the fight in the 14th round for the TKO due to swelling for Taylor. Hatcher led one card 125-122, while Taylor was up 125-122 and 126-122 through the 13th round. Russell Sands 2-1-0 (0) vs Chiddy Ryan 0-1-0 (0) - A curious bout in that Ryan was far more accurate than the highly favored Sands, but Sands laned more shots due to his work rate. This made for some tough close scores from round to round. Ryan would have pulled off the upset split decision, but he landed a blatant low blow in the 12th round and lost a point. At the end of the bout the score cards were close, 144-142 Sands, 143-141 Ryan and 143-143 even for the draw. Jack McGowan 2-1-0 (1) vs Dummy Winters 1-1-0 (0) - A tight defensive battle that had some good action at times, Winters built up the lead then as both men tired, held on to earn the 142-147, 144-143 and 146-143 split decision upset. Jerry Marshall 1-1-0 (0) vs Jimmy Hill 1-1-0 (0) - An uneventful first round, then in the 2nd Hill opened a horrific gash over the right eyebrow that stopped the bout three times before the referee felt it was too bad to continue in the 2nd round for the TKO on cuts by Hill. Rematches: Mickey Miller 3-1-1 (3) vs Abe Willis 0-1-1 (0) - Miller scored a 2nd round knockdown and never looked back, dropping Willis again in the 10th before icing him in the 13th for the KO. Russell Sands 2-1-1 (0) vs Chiddy Ryan 0-1-1 (0) - Another close bout, with the defense of Ryan being even better, though he was unable to find the offensive success of the 1st round. Again, hugely close rounds that led to some wild scoring as the judges had it 144-142 Sands, 147-140 Ryan and 143-143 for the second draw in a row. Rematch Part Deaux: Russell Sands 2-1-2 (0) vs Chiddy Ryan 0-1-2 (0) - Ryan came out more aggressive, working the body well as Sands bored in. He caught Sands with a perfect uppercut in the 5th round and Sands was unable to answer the count for the surprising Ryan KO win. |

				Australia - Featherweights - Round 2

			Round 2:

Young Griffo 7-1-0 (2) vs Frisco McCaull 1-1-0 (0) - A dominating performance by Griffo as he swept every round on all three cards before McCaull had taken so much punishment in the 9th round that the referee called it for the Griffo TKO. Johnny Famechon 2-1-0 (0) vs Nipper Peakes 1-1-0 (1) - Strange scoring in this one as it seemed to all observers that Famechon had controlled the fight for the entire 15 rounds. Neither man marked, cut or knocked down, the judging was 139-146 Peakes, 145-140 Famechon and 146-139 for the winner by split decision, Famechon. Gairy St Clair 1-1-0 (0) vs Chiddy Ryan 1-1-2 (1) - Another strange fight that saw St Clair take the lead only to have a cut on the bridge of his nose open in the 3rd round that was apparently the result of an accidental head clash during a clinch. The cut reopened in the 5th and was so deep the fight was stopped. Strangely the referee didn't send it to the judges, but ruled it a TKO on the behalf of a puzzled but elated Ryan! Young Pluto 2-1-0 (2) vs Dummy Winters 2-1-0 (0) - A close dirty bout that saw both men commit 4 fouls as Pluto built up the early lead then faded as Winters came back strong. I had it 144-142 for Winters while the judges scored it 144-141 Pluto, 144-142 Winters and 145-142 for the favored Pluto. Most felt Winters had done enough in the latter rounds to earn the win however. Trevor King 1-1-0 (1) vs Jimmy Hill 2-1-0 (1) - Neither man really separated themselves from the other, as neither was down throughout. This one went the distance, with King finishing strong in the final round. The judging was varied, with the scores 141-146, 145-140 and 144-142 for the winner by split decision King. Tim Hegarty 4-1-0 (1) vs Wally Taylor 2-1-0 (1) - A competitive action bout that was punctuated by a Taylor knockdown in the 4th. Hegarty came back strong from there, opening a cut on the outside of the brow in the 5th, then reopening it in the 9th, 10th, and the final time in the 11th before the referee called it for the Hegarty TKO. Taylor led one card 95-94 while Hegarty was up 96-93 and 97-92 through the 10th round on the other two. Billy Dib 1-0-0 (0) vs Mickey Miller 4-1-1 (4) - Close rounds with high drama as Miller was cut in the 1st round on the bridge of his nose only to fight back with passion until the cut burst open in the 4th for the Dib TKO. Jackson Asiku 1-1-0 (0) vs Eddie Miller 2-1-0 (2) - Asiku and Miller traded two fast and furious rounds only to have Asiku take the momentum in the 3rd, dominate the 4th then score a huge KO shot in the 5th round. |

				Australia - Featherweights - Quarter-Finals

			Quarter-Finals:

Young Griffo 8-1-0 (3) vs Chiddy Ryan 2-1-2 (2) - An impressive outing from Griffo as he landed 588 of 1228 (47.9%) with timely offense while smothering Ryan defensively, holding him to 90 of 854 (10.5%) of his shots to earn the 145-141, 149-136 and 149-136 decision. Johnny Famechon 3-1-0 (0) vs Jackson Asiku 2-1-0 (1) - A close bout that didn't see Famechon earn the decision on my card until the final round. The judges had it 143-142, 144-141 and 144-141 for the winner by majority decisoin, Famechon. Young Pluto 3-1-0 (2) vs Billy Dib 2-0-0 (1) - A pick-em fight in Vegas, Dib built a solid lead with timely offense. Pluto wasn't phased however and scored the only knockdown of the bout early in the 8th, then piled on the points before opening a gash on the left eyebrow of Dib for the TKO later in the round. Trevor King 2-1-0 (1) vs Tim Hegarty 5-1-0 (2) - As expected, this was a very close bout with both men landing with bad intent. Though Hegarty went far in the last tourney, this was his stopping point in this one as King landed a picture perfect combination in the 8th round for KO win! |

			Semi-Finals:

Young Griffo 9-1-0 (3) vs Trevor King 3-1-0 (2) - King showed a lot of heart, but didn't have the ring speed or savvy to keep an ever shifting Griffo in front of him. Griffo used the entire ring to his advantage, picking King apart then opening a huge gash on the bridge of his nose that ended the fight in the 9th round. Johnny Famechon 4-1-0 (0) vs Young Pluto 4-1-0 (3) - Famechon opened a cut on the outside of the right brow of Pluto in the 2nd, and in a close bout targeted it repeatedly, widening it until it became a hinderance to the vision of Pluto, resulting in the 8th round TKO on cuts. Famechon was up by a point on two cards while Pluto was up by a point on the 3rd at the time of the stop. |

			Final:

Young Griffo 10-1-0 (4) vs Johnny Famechon 5-1-0 (1) - A bout between Griffo, last season's tourney winner and the #2 Seeded Famechon saw them go back and forth, each using the ring well at times. That being said, Griffo seemed to have better offensive and defensive skills, though this was a close bout. I had Griffo ahead 146-141 after the fight ended with no knockdowns. The judging was closer, as they had it 142-144, 146-141 and 144-143 for the winner by split decision, Griffo. Griffo improves to 11-1-0 (4) heading into his second straight World Tournament. |

				Australia - Bantamweights -

With 11 fighters in the Bantamweight Division, we will have 3 fight-in bouts to set the field at 8. The top seeds are last years Jr. Featherweight entrant Jeff Fenech at 2-1-0 (2) who moves up in weight, Jimmy Carruthers 0-1-0 (0), who was eliminated in the 1st round of last years tourney, Elley Bennett 3-1-0 (2), last years Bantamweight tourney entrant and Lionel Rose, 2-1-0 (2).

Fight-Ins: Paul Ferreri 0-1-0 (0) vs Johnny Binge 0-1-0 (0) - Both men were tentative in the 1st round as there was little action in a round I had Binge edging. Ferreri came out fired up in the 2nd and landed a crisp uppercut to the jaw that sent Binge falling face first to the canvas for the 10 count! Peter Toohey 1-1-0 (1) vs Billy McKell 0-1-0 (0) - Toohey holds a 1-0-0 (1) record after a 3rd round TKO on cuts the first time these two met. McKell was simply over powered by Toohey, who scored knockdowns in the 2nd & 5th, then two more in the 6th. McKell staged a rousing rally in the 7th round as they went toe to toe with the crowd on their feet, but Toohey dispatched the game McKell in the 8th with a beautiful overhand right for the KO. Joe Russell 2-1-0 (1) vs Bill Mullins 0-1-0 (0) - Russell holds a 15 UD over Mullins going into this bout. This was nip and tuck throughout, as Russell would have big rounds then slack off allowing Mullins to steal others. Russell had good 14th and 15th rounds, but both men were spent in the 15th, with Mullins landing the only telling shot to steal that round as well. Going the distance, Russell held on to take the 144-142, 143-143 and 146-141 majority decision. |

			Quarter-Finals:

Jeff Fenech 2-1-0 (2) vs Joe Russell 3-1-0 (1) - Fenech was cruising along, dominating the first two rounds when in the 3rd Russell opened a nasty gash on the left eyelid of Fenech and the fight was immediately halted for the shocking Russell TKO on cuts! Jimmy Carruthers 0-1-0 (0) vs Peter Toohey 2-1-0 (2) - Brilliant defense and accurate counters worked wonders for Carruthers as he dominated Toohey for the 148-139, 148-137 and 149-136 decision. Elley Bennett 3-1-0 (2) vs Paul Ferreri 1-1-0 (1) - After splitting a pair of action packed rounds Bennett landed a vicious uppercut that floored Ferreri for the count in the 3rd round. Bennett continues on to the Semi-Finals in hopes of securing his second straight Tourney Berth. Lionel Rose 2-1-0 (2) vs Nathan Sting 1-1-0 (0) - A great back and forth slug-fest saw Sting drop Rose in the 2nd round then Rose came back with one in the 5th. They continued back and forth with both men having great rounds when in the 10th round Rose opened a gash on the forehead of Sting then pummeled him unmercifully until the referee halted it to stop the beating. |

Jimmy Carruthers 1-1-0 (0) vs Joe Russell 4-1-0 (2) - Russell holds a 12th round TKO over the highly favored Carruthers. Carruthers didn't take any chances in this one, going after Russell with a vengance, scoring a 4th round knockdown. Russell fought back valiantly, but this time Carruthers finished him by pounding away in the 7th until the referee halted it for the TKO. Elley Bennett 4-1-0 (3) vs Lionel Rose 3-1-0 (3) - Bennett scored a 9th round KO win over Rose in the previous tourney. Rose stayed on his feet throughout in this one, fighting toe to toe most of the way against the favored Bennett. Rose held a slight lead on two of the cards when Bennett tagged him early in the 14th then teed off until the referee halted it for the Bennett TKO. Rose was up 125-122, 124-124 and 125-124 through the 13th round. |

Jimmy Carruthers 2-1-0 (1) vs Elley Bennett 5-1-0 (4) - A battle between the #2 seeded Carruthers and the #3 seeded Bennett, the tourney winner from last season was expected to be a good close fight, but Carruthers had the clear betting edge according to Vegas. This was a defensive battle with far less offense than expected, and they went back and forth with Carruthers taking the early lead only to have Bennett surge back. I still had Carruthers winning the fight 145-140 as he seemed to edge the close rounds. The judging was wildy different as they scored it 144-141 Bennett, 145-141 Carruthers and 143-141 for the winner by split decision, and heading to the tourney for the 2nd straight year with a 6-1-0 (4) record, Elley Bennett! |

				Australia - Flyweights - Quarter-Finals

With 7 fighters in the tourney we will go straight to the quarter finals with, top seed Henry Nissen 0-1-0 (0) receiving the bye.

Quarter-Finals: Hussein Hussein 4-1-0 (2)vs Mickey Hill 1-1-0 (0) - Hussein battered Hill for a 5th round TKO last time out. It was more of the same as Hussein scored a 5th round knockdown, though Hill fought back valiantly throughout the bout. He dropped Hill again in the 8th round then punished him until Hill's corner tossed in the towel for the 8th round TKO. Taffy Hancock 2-1-0 (2) vs Jimmy Anthony 0-1-0 (0) - Hancock scored an 8th round TKO on cuts over Anthony the first time they met. This was a competitive bout with several close rounds, but Hancock moved ahead on the strength of an 8th round knockdown despite losing a point for a low blow later in the same round. Hancock had suffered a gash on his forehead in the 5th round however that became more and more of a problem as Anthony targeted it unmercifully until it burst open in the 10th round for the Anthony upset TKO on cuts to even their series. Harry Hayes 1-1-0 (0) vs Shane Brock 0-1-0 (0) - Brock dropped a narrow 15th round split decision last time he met Hayes. Brock came out determined to win this fight this time, dropping Hayes twice in the 1st round then again in the 12th as he built up a huge lead going into the 14th round. Unfortunately for Brock he suffered a terrible cut on the left eyelid in the 14th round that caused the fight to be stopped 3 times before the referee finally called it for the Hayes improbable come from behind win on cuts. The snake bit Brock was up 127-117 on two cards and 126-119 on the 3rd through 13 and was in firm control to that point. |

				Australia - Flyweights - Semi-Finals

			Semi-Finals:

Henry Nissen 0-1-0 (0) vs Jimmy Anthony 1-1-0 (0) - A close bout at times, with Nissen being economical and accurate while Anthony tried to make up the difference with a prodigious work rate. It went the distance, and I had it 146-140 Nissen due to his clear ring generalship advantage and accuracy overall. The judges had it 141-145, 145-141 and 146-142 for the winner by split decision, Nissen. Hussein Hussein 5-1-0 (3) vs Harry Hayes 2-1-0 (1) - A dominant performance by Hussein who scored a 5th round knockdown and then battered Hayes over the 9th and 10th rounds before the referee had seen enough to call it late in the 10th for the TKO. |

				Australia - Flyweights - Final

			Final:

Henry Nissen 1-1-0 (0) vs Hussein Hussein 6-1-0 (4) - A pick em fight between the two top seeds, most feel Hussein has the edge due to his World Tournament experience & power. Hussein started out fast, dropping Nissen in the 5th and 6th rounds only to have Nissen start mounting a comback. Hussein was able to get to the slick moving Nissen again in the 12th to stop the comeback, battering him badly then dropping him for the 10 count to earn his second straight World Tournament berth with a 7-1-0 (5) record. |

				Australia - Strawweights - Complete

There are only three fighters in the Strawweight Division so I'll post from the Semi-Final, where the previous tourney winner, Lyall Appo 1-1-0 (1) is the top seed.

Semi-Final: Jack Russell 1-1-0 (1) vs Rick Budgen 0-1-0 (0) - Russell dispatched Budgen in the 4th round last time out by way of knockout. Russell dropped Budgen in the 1st and twice in the 2nd rounds, but Russell was game and battled back making for some close thrilling rounds. Sadly Budgen was cut in the 6th round and it reopened in the 7th for the TKO on cuts. Final: Lyall Appo 1-1-0 (1) vs Jack Russell 2-1-0 (2) - Appo scored a 10th round KO of Russell in the last tourney. After a feelig out round in the 1st, Appo landed a looping overhand right followed by a left hook from hell that nearly took Russell's head off as Russell crumpled to the canvas and was unable to answer the count for the Appo KO. Appo is now 2-1-0 (2) going into his second straight World Tournament. |

				Australia - Recap

			Recap:

Thus ends our Australian portion of the qualifying tournaments. It's clear that Young Griffo, and Peter Jackson are favorites to contend for medals, while there are others that could surprise and move into contention such as Charkey Ramon and Elley Bennett. |

				Austria - Conclusive

I will do the entire Austria tourney on this thread

Heavyweights - Final: Charley Weinert 2-1-0 (0) vs Joe Weidin 0-0-0 (0) - Weinert enjoyed a bye into the tourney last time out, but has competition this time. Weinert was far more accurate, and held Weidin to a low connect percentage, but Weidin made up for that with much harder shots and a higher work rate to earn the minor upset over Weinert 140-145, 143-142 and 144-142. Middleweight: Marcos Nader enters his first World Tournament on a bye with a 0-0-0 (0) record. Welterweight: Johann Orsolics 2-1-0 (2) hopes to get past the 3rd round in the latest tourney after losing by KO last time out. Bantamweight: Johnnyt Ertle will enter his second straight World Tournament with a 0-1-0 (0) record. Flyweight: Ernst Weiss 1-1-0 (1), goes to the World Tournament again hoping to improve on his 2nd round exit last time around. |
