2-1 at home to the St Louis Browns

First Baseman Dave Orr will be spending some time on the sidelines during June and July after he was diagnosed with a sprained ankle. He will be out for 7 weeks.

As you can imaging, with only 10 wins the form of the individual players was not the strongest. The one player to buck that trend was pitcher Phenomenal Smith who managed to pick up 5 wins from his 10 starts. He pitched 82 innings to give up 61 hits and 22 earned runs for an ERA of 2.41.

The fans of the White Sox saw their teams pennant hopes fall away during a terrible May. The teams poor form saw them win only 9 wins from the 27 games they played during the month. The team fell down the AL table to 6th place. They now trail the leaders by 10 games.

Series results
Went 1-1 to finish the home series against the Washington Nationals
2-1 at home to the Boston Americans
0-3 on the road to the Cleveland Blues
3-1 on the road to the Detroit Wolverines
0-2 on the road to the Louisville Colonels
1-2 at home to the Baltimore Orioles
1-3 at home to the Boston Americans
1-2 at home to the Philadelphia Athletics
0-3 at home to the Detroit Wolverines

May was a tough month for the team on the injury front after they lost star Third Baseman Denny Lyons mid month with a hamstring strain. He will be out for 3 weeks. They also lost Right Fielder John Cahill towards the end of the month for 2 weeks with a foot contusion.

With only 9 wins it is no surprise that the players performances were in the dumps. With this fact we will not be highlighting any stars this month.

Series results
Lost final 2 games at home to the Boston Beaneaters

0-3 on the road to the Chicago White Stockings
1-2 on the road to the Philadelphia Athletics
2-2 on the road to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys

1-2 at home to the New York Giants
3-1 at home to the Brooklyn Bridegrooms (including a re-arranged game)

The team lost the services of Short Stop Bobby Wheelock for most of the month of May after he was sidelined with a sprained knee early in the month. He missed 4 weeks and returned to the team at the end of the month.

The batting continues to struggle to be consistent and it fall to the pitching to try and keep the team in some sort of form. The top pitcher this month continues to be Alex Voss. Voss started 10 games and picked up 6 wins. He pitched 85 innings to give up 70 hits and 18 earned runs for an ERA of 1.91.
