A word about photo-editing.
Thanks for detailing the process, TNFOTO. I have a Mac, so I can't run Paint.NET, and the Mac equivalent, Pinta, seems to require me to rewrite the architecture, which I balked at. So I tried LiveQuartz, but they don't have the "auto-level" feature you mentioned.
Guess I'll be on the lookout for a Mac program with auto-leveling then. Hmm. How does that work? How does the program know that the sky is supposed to be blue, rather than the angry purple/yellow Topps so often turns it? Very interesting. (Don't get me wrong, I'm *glad* that auto-levels knows to fix that; I'm just not sure how it works.) Thanks again. See, folks, I was just giving Scott a picture to practice on! The whole "It's Marty Keough, honest!" bit was just misdirection. Really. ![]() |

Glen Hobbie 1957 — UIN 1964 Cardinals
Well, to make up for that fiasco, how about a little treat I've been saving for a while? Yep, filling in a hole in the UIN list, with a shot of Glen Hobbie, the man whose win over the Cardinals in 1960 clinched the pennant for the Pirates (September 25th; the Buccos had lost to the Braves that day and needed the Cubs to do their clinching for them), finishing his career in 1964 with those same Cardinals.
This post at On The Outside Corner (a fine Cardinals blog) details Hobbie's two months in Birdland (Missouri version), before he was sent down to AAA Jacksonville to make way for Gordie Richardson. Although Hobbie never pitched against his former mates as a Card, the Redbirds did travel back to the Windy City, and MLB snapped this pic of the pride of Witt, IL: As is all too common with these MLB photographs, the sky comes out a sickly yellow-white, so I made my best effort at re-coloring (and sharpening) the image. Probably could still stand some improvement, but I think it at least qualifies as a step in the right direction: Enjoy! |

Johnson Boys
Since the theme of this page of the thread has to do with photoshop editing, I decided I wanted to do some work on Alex and Bob Johnson for my 1968 set. With the assistance of my friend Mark, we modified Bob and Alex with the Reds and Bob with the Braves as well. Just happened to find other player photos with the same poses which made the uniform transformation and hat editing much easier.

1968 - Deron Johnson, Marty Martinez & Roberto Pena
My friend Mark and I worked on these this morning. I needed better choices for my 1968 project and these definitely do accomplish that. Please be kind about the Johnson. We really had a lot of editing to do. Even has the correct number.

Not to rag on Cochise and Mark or anything, but…
Considering how completely incompetent I am at this sort of thing, this is a very minor nitpick, but it amuses me to see Marty Martinez wearing a 1969 Centennial sleeve patch on his "1968 card".
Wow, so the 1969 Braves (okay, technically Marty was a 1969 Astro, but he's a Brave in the card) were capable of *time travel*, and the Metsies still beat them? Amazin', amazin', amazin', as Casey would say. ![]() (All kidding aside, I appreciate the effort, guys.) Last edited by Amazin69; 09-15-2012 at 02:30 PM. |

Marty Martinez 1962
Speaking of Orlando "Marty" Martinez, the Batters' Pack picture of him with the 1962 Twins is black & white; this Topps color image seems an improvement.
Here we have, in order, the original, my tweaked version (increased contrast/sharpness to get rid of the "washed out" look I thought the original had), a cut-down to 180x270, a head shot (116x174), and the head shot reduced to 90x135, and tweaked again (increased contrast/sharpness/blue level) to "pop" at the smaller size. Enjoy. |

Manny martinez
The posting of a baseball card of Marty Martinez, two sections above on this page reminded me that the Phillies briefly had a reserve outfielder named Manny Martinez in 1996. Are there any photos of him out there as a Phillie or with other teams?

Marty Martinez
Amazin - I could have removed the patch but didnt care about that. If it had been the astro logo, it would be gone. My only regret was the inability to change the color of the number on the back to red. For me, that is a bigger deal than the patch.
Find plenty of Pedro and Michael Martinez but nothing for the Phils with Manny, Ken. |
