The Americans fans are a little worried about this season after seeing the team make very few changes between this season and last during the off season but are hoping for the best. The independent league assessors are also very pessimistic about the Americans prospects this year as they cannot see them getting better than 64-90 for a record with an 8th place finish.

The MLB head office has decided to again tamper with the schedule and increase the games to 154 so that more fans can see their favourite stars.

The fans enjoyed the charity open day that the Americans held during their spring training workouts. The spring training led to the GM and Manager selecting the following 25 players as the opening day roster.

The independent league assessors were far more downbeat about the bridegrooms prospects as they predict a last place finish in the NL table with a record of 70-84.

The players were so keen to try and improve this year ready for another pennant push that they all arrived for the spring training on time and raring to go. They also all made every effort to participate which helped the GM and Manager to whittle the squad down to the top 25 players. This list is given below.

The fans of the White Sox are hoping their team can get back to the top of the AL table this year after failing to defend the title last year. The independent league assessors did not have good news for the fans as they predicted another average season for the team with a 4th place finish and a record of 76-78.

The players were back in training early this pre-season to put in all the effort to win that pennant they all want. This pleased the GM and Manager and helped to ease their selection headaches for the opening day roster. The players they finally chose for this squad are given below.

The fans of the Colonels are hoping for their team to show some fight this year and push for the AL title. The independent league assessors gave the fans hope that this is possible by predicting a 3rd place finish for the team with a record of 82-72.

The Colonels decided to refresh the squad further in the preseason by trading 30 year old Short Stop Jack Farrell to the Philadelphia Athletics in exchange for 27 year old Pitcher John Schappert and 22 year old minor league Second Baseman Billy Klusman.

Early January was a tough time for all associated with the Philadelphia Athletics organisation as they lost their owner and founder Mr Henry Canning. The family told the awaiting press that Mr Canning had passed away peacefully after a short illness.

The teams control has passed to his son Mr Henry Canning Jr. The news from the people that work within baseball say that the younger Mr Canning allows his employees the time to do the work needed but doesn't always give them the finances to carry out those tasks.

The fans were hoping for a pennant challenge this year but after the owner's death they are not quite so sure. The independent league assessors couldn't give the fans any extra belief as they predicted a 6th place finish for the team with a record of 74-80.

The team saw further player changes during the pre season as they traded 27 year old Pitcher John Schappert and 22 year old minor league Second Baseman Billy Klusman to the Louisville Colonels in exchange for 30 year old Short Stop Jack Farrell.

The independent league assessors were cautious on the prediction for the Browns saying they would not be awful but also that they wouldn't excel. The fans of the Washington Nationals are just hoping to see improvements this year from their team. The independent league assessors are predicting a small improvement as they see the team finishing 5th this year in the AL with a record of 74-80.

The GM and Manager decided to take the squad to a secluded training camp in the mountains this year to try and get the players ready for the tough season ahead, The front office managed to use this trip to select the following 25 players for the opening day roster.

The fans of the Baltimore Orioles have enjoyed the start to the 1888 season after watching their team put in some good performances. The team managed to pick up 19 wins from their 28 games. This has moved them to the top of the AL table to lead by 3.5 games.

The team lost Left Fielder Joe Strauss to the Detroit Wolverines via waivers while Right Fielder Willie Murphy followed him out of the door to the Philadelphia Athletics via the same route.

With an excellent start to the season the players were always going to get good praise. The top star in April was Pitcher Toad Ramsey. Ramsey started 10 games and managed to pick up 9 wins. He pitched 89 innings to give up 66 hits and 12 earned runs for an ERA of 1.21. These figures earned him the AL Pitcher of the Month award.

The fans of the Americans got a pleasant surprise at how well their team started the new season. The team managed to gain a record of 15-12 to sit third in the AL table. They are now 3.5 games behind the leaders.

The Americans claimed 2 extra players early in the month via waivers. They were Pitchers John Kirby from the Philadelphia Athletics and Bill Vinton from the Pittsburgh Alleghenys.

With a solid start to the season the players were putting together some good performances. The top performer during April was Third Baseman Bill White. White played 26 games and collected 34 hits from 100 hits. He scored 16 runs with 5 RBI's for an average of .340.

The Beaneaters fans are delighted with the form their team has shown at the start of the 1888 season. The team picked up 17 wins and 11 losses during April. They have moved into 2nd place in the NL table to trail the leaders by 1 game.

The Beaneaters suffered a blow to their line-up during the month after seeing Centre Fielder Chief Roseman sidelined during the month. He will be missing for 8 weeks with a strained oblique.

While the team has started well the individual performances of the players have not showed quite as well. The star we will highlight this month is pitcher Tony Mullane. Mullane started 9 games and picked up 6 wins. He pitched 82.1 innings to give up 73 hits and 25 earned runs for an ERA of 2.73.

The fans of the Bridegrooms were hoping the predictions were wrong but after watching a poor month from their team in April they are not holding out much hope for the season. The team managed to win only 8 out of the 26 games they played. This has positioned them in last place in the NL table, 9 games behind the leaders.
