Tom Walker beats out an infield hit. Dave Bess grounds a hit up the middle and Dawson scores! 4 to 2, Jays! That does it for P Flora. We are in Birmingham to play Sergio Acevedo and the Barons a 3 game series. They lost 2 of 3 in Memphis over the weekend. We are 9-2 against them on the season and swept them in 4 games in our first visit, June 14-17, outscoring them, 25 to 9. They are 13th in scoring with 3.90 runs per game, despite leading the MLB in HR with 132 (Jacksonville is #4 with 4.58 and 3rd in HR with 119). They are last in BA at .242 and we are 6th at .267. The Barons are 10th in fewest runs allowed with 4.25 per game, despite allowing the most HR with 128 (Jacksonville is #1 with 3.34 and tied with Orlando for the 2nd fewest HR allowed with 84). Their run differential is -50, 12th in the MLB, and ours is +179, still the best. Jacksonville Jays (95-49 .660 8.5 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) at Birmingham Barons (65-78 .455 29.5 GB in 7th place in the Southern Division) JAX: Tommy Corris (27-R) (19-6 2.80 ERA 1 SV, 209 IP, 192 H, 15 HR, 46 BB, 130 SO) All-Star(4: 04-07) BIRM: Jim Greer (25-L) (9-11 3.11 ERA 208.2 IP, 181 H, 13 HR, 86 BB, 80 SO) Corris gave up 4 runs on 11 hits and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts in 7 innings last time out, but we scored 9 runs (thanks to his own HR and 5 RBI) and he picked up a win. If he can manage to win his 20th game, the Jays will NOT be the first MLB team with two 20 game winners. In 2005, Tim Hill (23-3) and Jim Hower (21-8) did it for Ottawa. Greer beat us with a CG when he was with Columbus in May, but we have beaten him twice since he was traded to Birmingham on June 10. He has a 3.47 ERA. 23.1 IP, 17 H, 3 HR, 6 BB, 8 SO.
