Yep, I knew that they have fought before but I'm still looking forward to it as it should be a good fight.

Johnson is 3-1 against Jackson with all 4 fights going the distance. His 3rd loss was to James Corbett.

April 6, 1911

Arthur Pelkey (UR) (8-0-1) rallied to win a SD12 over Bobby McKioick (UR) (3-9) for his first defense of the AABU LH title.

McKioick started out strong winning a some of the early rounds but then seemed to run out of steam late in the fight. Pelkey was cut over the left eye in the 8th, McKioick over the right eye in the 11th.

I had it 116-114 Pelkey. Jason Wood (RE) had it 116-115 Pelkey. The official judges had it 116-113/113-116/118-113.

Britton wins USBA title

April 7, 1911

Jack Britton (2/1) (21-3-5) scored a SD12 over George Cole (1/2) (15-9-4) to win the USBA WW title. This was the 4th match between the two with Britton winning to SD and there were two draws.

Cole was cut over the left eye in the 2nd round. The fight was back and forth with a lot of very close rounds. Britton was cut on the mouth in the 9th and then penalized a point in the 11th for excessive holding and hitting.

Cole won the final round and it looked like the fight.

I had it 115-114 Cole. Andreas Raht (RE and out of hiding) had it 115-113 Britton. The official judges had it 114-113/113-114/114-113.

Martin wins EBU title

April 8, 1911

Terry Martin (6/5) (20-3-1) scored a TKO7 in a tougher than expected bout against Johnny Alberts (UR) (6-2-2) (Pre) to win the EBU WW title.

Alberts came out strong winning 3 of the first 4 rounds. He knocked Martin down in the 4th. Alberts was also cut badly under the right eye in the 4th.

His flurry trying to end the fight though seemed to wear him out. Martin dominated the 5th and the 6th, reopening the cut in both rounds. Finally the ref stopped it in the 7th as the cut was reopened again.

I had it 57-57 at the stoppage.

On the undercard

LW - Harry Mansfield (73/66) (11-7-5) UD10 Joe Heiser (37/54) (10-5-1) (both at pre)

Welsh takes IBF title

Freddie Welsh (7/CH) (19-5-1) put on a late rally to score a SD15 over Jack Blackburn (CH/1) to win the IBF LW title.

Blackburn was in control of the fight early winning 6 of the first 7 rounds. then Welsh started to take over the fight. He won the next 4 rounds and then knocked down Blackburn in the 12th. Blackburn rallied and the last 3 rounds were all close but it wasn't enough.

I had it 143-142 Welsh. Mark Moe (RE) wasn't watching the fight and spent most of the evening flirting with the ringcard girls had it 146-140 Blackburn. The official judges had it 144-141/141-143/145-139.

Coulon retains title

April 14, 1911

Johnny Coulon (CH) (27-3-2) scored a KO10 over Billy Plimmer (3/3) (24-14-6) for his 5th defense of the WBC Bantamweight title.

Coulon took control of the fight early winning 4 of the first 5 rounds with the other being too close to call. He was cut badly over his right eye in the thrid though and that started to become an issue.

Once it was reopened in the 7th Plimmer got more aggressive and started to gain control of the fight. The ref wasn't helping either, taking away a point from Coulon in the 9th.

Coulon decided to finish it in the 10th, dropping Plimmer a minute into the round and then smothering him with punches until he went down for good with 20 seconds left in the round.

I had it 86-86 at the stoppage.

Shocker in the LBA

April 15, 1911

George Byers (5/4) (17-8-1) demolished, and I mean demolished, Joe Butler (3/5) (34-9-3) with a TKO8 to win the WBC LH eliminator and advance to the title match against Jack Dillon.

Byers rocked Butler in the first and then dropped him 3 times in the 2nd, also opened a cut over the left eye of Butler. Byers then pummeled Butler for the next 3 rounds before Butler finally showed some life winning the 6th round.

It was too late though as Byers staggered Butler in the 7th and then dropped him 2 more times in the 8th before the ref stopped the fight.

I had it 69-61 at the stoppage

On the undercard

FW - Young Pluto (19/12) (19-2) TKO4 Eddie Santry (8/11) (21-22-1) 30-25 (pluto at pre, santry at post ..santry has some friends in high places down 5 times also in this fight and stays ranked higher)

Ted "Kid" Lewis wins regional title

April 20, 1911

Ted Lewis (17/11) (15-1) won a MD8 over Tommy West (11/12) (17-8-2) on a techinical decision after a cut over West's left eye became too bad to continue. It was caused by a butt in the 5th.

Lewis seemed in control of the fight but was constantly being warned for low blows. He had a point deducted in the 7th.

I had it 77-74. Aurelio Barrios (RE) had it 78-73. The official judges had it 77-74/76-76/77-74.

On the undercard

I think that one WW fight was a fix due to the last name (Holger Hansen) even though it is spelled differently.

Nice catch, you might be on to something there. I wouldn't put it past Mike to fix a fight for a Hansen, even if it's spelled a bit differently.

Even if he is long lost kin, I'm not ruining one of my undefeated fighters

Excellent stuff as always Mike. I wonder if we'll be seing Ted 'Kid' Lewis v Terry Martin in a title versus title match-up?

Possibly ... end of the year the two best regional title holders meet for the IBO title. It will only be fought for in December of each year and will be vacated if the champ loses his regional title.
