Argentina - Jr. Lightweights - Final
Final:
Carlos Ruben Canete 4-1-0 (3) vs Vicente Derado 2-1-0 (1) - Derado did a brilliant job early taking the lead with clever in and out movement coupled with pinpoint punching. He cut Canete in the 4th round over the right eye and when it appeared that Canete had started to take control of the bout, the cut reopened in the 9th round for the upset TKO, sending Derado, 3-1-0 (2) to the World Tourney for the first time. |

Argentina - Featherweights - Fight-Ins
We have 10 fighters in the Featherweight division, so there will be 2 fight-in bouts to set the field at 8. Top seeds are first time entrant Jonathan Victor Barros, Juan Domingo Malvarez, 3-1-0 (2) the last entrant to the World Tournament, and Ricardo Gonzalez 1-1-0 (0).
Fight-Ins: Jose Mario Lopez 0-0-0 (0) vs Eduardo Enrique Alvarez 1-1-0 (0) - A close defensive battle, Lopez opened a lead then held on to earn the 144-140, 141-144 and 143-141 split decision despite losing a point for his 3rd foul of the night in the final round. Jose Estrella 0-1-0 (0) vs Nestor Martin Farias 0-1-0 (0) - Estrella seemed to be the stronger, edging the rounds, most of which were close. In the 11th he did prove to be the more powerful fighter when he came out and landed a series of shots that had Farias slumped against the ropes when the referee halted the bout for the TKO. |

Argentina - Featherweights - Quarter-Finals
Quarter-Finals:
Jonathan Victor Barrios 0-0-0 (0) vs Jose Estrella 1-1-0 (1) - A dirty inside fight, both men lost points for fouls during the 15 rounds. Barrios was by far the more powerful, dropping Estrella in the 12th and 14th rounds to earn the 143-139, 143-141 and 145-137 decision. Juan Domingo Malvarez 3-1-0 (2) vs Jose Mario Lopez 1-0-0 (0) - A dominant performance as Malvarez opened his campaign for a 2nd straight World Tourney berth by scoring 4 knockdowns enroute to a 12th round TKO over a game but out gunned Lopez. Ricardo Gonzalez 1-1-0 (0) vs Remigio Molina 2-1-0 (2) - Molina earned a 6th round TKO over the favored Gonzalez last time out. This time it was close, but Gonzalez was stronger, scoring a pair of knockdowns to Molina's one. This fight was made closer by a bad call on a low blow by the referee when he deducted a point from Gonzales. The judges scored it 141-141, 142-140 and 144-138 for Gonzalez. Claudio Martinet 1-1-0 (0) vs Juan Gerado Cabrera 0-1-0 (0) - A highly compeititive bout between two even fighters ended abruptly when Martinet broke his right hand in the 8th round to hand Cabrera the 8th round TKO. Martinet was up on 2 of the three cards when the fight ended. |

Argentina - Featherweights - Semi-Finals
Semi-Finals:
Jonathan Victor Barros 1-0-0 (0) vs Juan Gerado Cabrera 1-1-0 (1) - Barros suffered a horrid gash on the left eyelid in the first round, but his corner handled it nicely and the fight was tightly contested, with Barros gradually building a lead when the cut reopened in the 8th round and the ring doctor recommended a halt to the fight for the Cabrera TKO! Juan Domingo Malvarez 4-1-0 (3) vs Ricardo Gonzalez 2-1-0 (0) - Malvarez seemed out to cause serious damage to Gonzalez, using every dirty tactic in the books, losing a point in the 2nd round, then after a blatant kidney punch being disqualified on his 5th foul in only 4 rounds for the Gonzalez win by DQ. |

Argentina - Featherweights - Final
Final:
Ricardo Gonzalez 3-1-0 (0) vs Juan Gerardo Cabrera 2-1-0 (2) - A decent action bout saw Gonzalez boxing smartly and outlanding Cabrera nearly 3-1 throughout. Cabrera was cut on the bridge of the nose in the 7th round and it became more and more of a problem when the fight was finally stopped in the 14th to send Gonzalez to his first World Tournament berth. I had Gonzalez up 128-119 through 13, while the judges had it 124-123, 125-123 and 128-119 all for Gonzalez. |

Argentina - Jr. Featherweights - Fight-In
Sergio Palma breezed through the competition last time out to earn the first World Tourney berth, but disappointed in the tourney. We have 9 fighters in the draw for this years tourney, so there will be a single fight-in bout. The top seed and best in the draw by far is Palma with a 5-1-0 (1) record.
Fight-In: Juan Jose Herrera 0-1-0 (0) vs Jose Saenz 0-1-0 (0) - Herrera dropped Saenz three times, once in the 7th and again in the 11th and 12th rounds to dominate this fight when the normally light hitting Saenz came out looking for a desperation KO in the 14th, and tagged Herrera with a perfect uppercut for the upset come from behind KO! |

Argentina - Jr. Featherweights - Quarter-Finals
Quarter-Finals:
Sergio Palma 5-1-0 (1) vs Jose Saenz 1-1-0 (1) - Palma destroyed Saenz last time out with a 1st round TKO. He dominated again, but wasn't able to put Saenz away this time as he earned the 146-139, 148-137 and 150-135 decision. Oscar Rene Ponce 0-1-0 (0) vs Sergio Rafael Liendo 0-1-0 (0) - Ponce dominated but kept things close with repeated low blows that cost him two points. He dropped Liendo in the 2nd and 10th rounds before scoring the KO shot in the 11th round. Sergio Manuel Medina 1-1-0 (0) vs Fabio Oliva 1-1-0 (0) - Oliva was giving Medina fits with an awkward style that netted him the lone knockdown of the fight and had him in a commanding position, when his second blatant low blow in the 11th cost him the fight, sending Medina to the semi's. Pastor Humberto Maurin 0-1-0 (0) vs Pedro Ruben Decima 2-1-0 (2) - They split the first two rounds though Maurin seemed to be landing the harder shots, then in the 3rd Maurin hurt Decima then teed off until the referee halted the bout just as Decima was going down for the TKO. |

Argentina - Jr. Featherweights - Semi-Finals
Semi-Finals:
Sergio Palma 6-1-0 (1) vs Pastor Humberto Maurin 1-1-0 (1) - Palma boxed circles around Maurin most of the fight, with Maruin landing some big shots at times. A frustrated Maurin would lean on the neck of Palma all too often, costing him a pair of points in the latter two rounds as Palma took the 144-140, 145-139 and 147-135 decision. Oscar Rene Ponce 1-1-0 (1) vs Sergio Manuel Medina 2-1-0 (0) - A tactical bout most of the time, both men flashed power, with Medina going down in the 3rd and Ponce going down in the 8th. Medina seemed to pull ahead, then Ponce stormed back, forcing Medina into a must win round in the final frame. He dominated the round but wasn't able to drop or finish the job, and it went the distance with the judges scoring it 142-142 even, 144-140 Medina and 142-142 even for the majority draw. Rematch: Oscar Rene Ponce 1-1-1 (1) vs Sergio Manuel Medina 2-1-1 (0) - Another close bout, with no knockdowns this time out that saw Ponce build the early lead only to have Medina come back strong in the middle rounds. Ponce was stronger in the latter two rounds, but it wasn't enough to stave off the 140-145, 143-142 and 144-141 split decision win for Medina. |

Argentina - Jr. Featherweights - Final
Final:
Sergio Palma 7-1-0 (1) vs Sergio Manuel Medina 3-1-1 (0) - Another impressive outing by Palma saw Medina cut in the 3rd over the left eye. Palma dominated, taking all 5 rounds on my card before the cut was such a bloody mess that the only logical conclusion was to stop the bout late in the 6th for the TKO. Palma improves to 8-1-0 (2) and moves to his second straight World Tournament. |

Argentina - Bantamweights - Fight-In
With 5 fighters in the division, there will be a fight-in bout. Last World Tourney entrant Ernesto Miranda, 3-1-0 (0) is the top seed in this draw.
Fight-In Ruben Osvaldo Condori 0-1-0 (0) vs Marcos Oscar Garro 0-0-0 (0) - Garro was fighting a dirty fight, losing a point for a low blow in the 1st round, and another point for a head butt in the 5th before Condori opened a gash over his right eye in the 6th for the TKO win. |

Argentina - Bantamweights - Semi-Finals
Semi-Finals:
Ernesto Miranda 3-1-0 (0) vs Ruben Osvaldo Condori 1-1-0 (1) - A dominant performance by Miranda that saw him out box and out power Condori, building up a huge lead then scoring three knockdowns in the 10th round to earn the TKO. Jose Smecca 0-1-0 (0) vs Heleno Ferreira 1-1-0 (0) - Ferreira's only win in the last tourney was against Smecca via a 15 round UD. It looked like it was going to be a short night for Smecca, who was dropped two times in the 2nd round. He survived, and clawed his way back into the bout with a 9th round knockdown that also featured an accidental butt that opened a gash on the right eyebrow of Smecca. After Ferreira clearly took the 10th and 112th, Smecca came back strong again in the 12th, only to have the cut reopen in the 13th, sending the fight to the cards. A close affair was reflected in those cards as the judges had it 115-111 Ferreira, 113-113 even and 113-112 for Smecca, resulting in a technical draw. Rematch: Joe Smecca 0-1-1 (0) vs Heleno Ferreira 1-1-1 (0) - A dull bout most of the night, Smecca seemed to be ahead when he reopened a cut on the forehead of Ferreira in the 14th for the TKO to even their series and allow him to continue to the finals. |

Argentina - Bantamweights - Final
Final:
Ernesto Miranda 4-1-0 (1) vs Jose Smecca 1-1-1 (1) - A boring tactical bout saw Smecca open a gusher of a gash on the forehead of Miranda in the 4th, then reopen it in the 6th round to end Miranda's bid for a 2nd straight World Tournament bid. Smecca improves to 2-1-1 (2) heading into the big tourney. |

Argentina - Jr. Bantamweights - Quarter-Finals
With 6 fighters in the Jr. Bantamweight division, the two top seeds receive a bye in the Quarter-Finals. They are last tourney's winner Gustavo Ballas, 3-1-0 (1) and Julio David Roque Ler 1-1-0 (1).
Quarter-Finals: Sergio Carlos Santillan 0-1-0 (0) vs Marcos Obregon 0-1-0 (0) - Santillan dominated from the opening bell, scoring two knockdowns in the 11th round that saw Obregon saved by the bell at the end of it. After a slow 12th, Santillan resumed the assault, though Obregon fought back valiantly until Santillan unleashed a hellish hook to the head that put Obregon out for the count! Roberto Domingo Sosa 0-0-0 (0) vs Victor Godoi 0-0-0 (0) - Several close rounds made this one hard to pick, but Godoi was up on two of three cards through the 10th. In the 11th he scored a pair of knockdowns and was pouring it on when the referee halted it for the Godoi TKO. |

Argentina - Jr. Bantamweights - Semi-Finals
Semi-Finals:
Gustavo Ballas 3-1-0 (1) vs Victor Godoi 1-0-0 (1) - the scorecards really didn't show the domination in this one as Ballas landed 52.7% of his punches to only 12.3% for Godoi as he used every inch of the ring to befuddle his opponent, earning the 145-140, 146-138 and 148-136 decision. Julio David Roque Ler 1-1-0 (1) vs Sergio Carlos Santillan 1-1-0 (1) - Ler holds the 1-0-0 (1) edge against Santillan with a 9th round KO last time they met. This time Ler built a solid lead, then swapped knockdowns in the 14th round that was a classic round of the year style round. Santilla closed strong in the final frame, but it was too much Ler early as he took the fight 148-138, 146-140 and 145-140. |

Argentina - Jr. Bantamweights - Final
Final:
Gustavo Ballas 4-1-0 (1) vs Julio David Roque Ler 2-1-0 (1) - These warriors have fought once, with Ballas scoring his only stop of his career with a 9th round KO. This time Ballas came out on his toes and danced msot of the night, with no knockdowns by either fighter. Ballas out scored Ler strongly early on then closed strong to take the 144-142 (odd score) 146-139 and 148-138 decision. Ballas landed 569 of 1170 shots to only 193 of 903 for Ler as he was in firm control throughout to earn his second straight World Tournament berth with a 5-1-0 (1) record. |

It's funny, I'm a big WWE Wrestling fan, and whenever I watch it it puts me in a Title Bout mood, so I tend to have flurries of activity on Wrestling Night....

Argentina - Flyweights - Fight-In
The flyweight division is packed with good fighters, with top seeds being Pascual Perez, the winner of the last tourney with a 6-1-1 (4) record, Omar Andres Narvaez 1-1-0 (0), Santos Laciar 1-1-0 (0) and Horacio Accavallo 2-1-0 (1). There are 9 fighters total in this draw, so there will be a single fight-in bout to set the field at 8 for the Quarter-Finals.
Fight-In: Raul Eliseo Medina 0-1-0 (0) vs Horacio Fabian Chicagual 0-1-0 (0) - Rumors were rampant prior to this fight of a rift between Chicagual and his management, and it showed as he didn't have much inclination to actually fight, giving a lackluster performance before being disqualified for a vicious intentional head butt in the 9th round. |

Argentina - Flyweights - Quarter-Finals
Quarter-Finals:
Pascual Perez 6-1-1 (4) vs Raul Eliseo Medina 1-1-0 (0) - Total destruction from Perez as he scores 5 knockdowns enroute to the 11th round KO of the overmatched Medina. Omar Andres Narvaez 1-1-0 (0) vs Hugo Soto 0-1-0 (0) - Narvaez was well up on two of the three cards when he scored the KO on a perfect uppercut in the 12th round to move to the semi-finals. Santos Laciar 1-1-0 (0) vs Juan Carlos Reveco 0-0-0 (0) - The stats showed a much wider difference in class than the scorecards after 15 rounds as Laciar landed over 50% of his shots to less than 25% for Reveco. Reveco surged at times and landed bigger shots however and the judging was fairly close, 145-141, 144-142 and 145-141. Horacio Accavallo 2-1-0 (1) vs Carlos Salazar 0-1-0 (0) - Salazar was the decided underdog, but Accavallo allowed him to hang around and it paid off as Salazar closed strong, and while I had it 144-142 for Accavallo, there was little surprise when the judges announced the 145-143, 145-142 and 142-144 split decision for Salazar who was far more accurate with his shots in this one. |

Argentina - Flyweights - Semi-Finals
Semi-Finals:
Pascual Perez 7-1-1 (5) vs Carlos Salazar 1-1-0 (0) - Perez was his usual dominant self, wearing down Salazar then scoring a 13th round knockdown followed by two more in the 14th round, the final one a picture perfect hook that had Salazar down and out. Omar Andres Narvaez 2-1-0 (1) vs Santos Laciar 2-1-0 (0) - A terrific action bout between two of the better tacticians in this tourney that was razor thin. Laciar pulled out the decision based on being far more accurate while Narvaez stayed close with his work rate. The judges scored it 143-142, 144-141 and 143-142 for Laciar who faces Perez next. |

Argentina - Flyweights - Final
Final:
Pascual Perez 8-1-1 (6) vs Santos Laciar 3-1-0 (0) - Perez came out on fire in this one, scoring a pair of knockdowns to set the tone. Laciar used the entire ring the rest of the way, and made things close, but he never did have an answer to the power of Perez. There was some odd scoring when Michael Buffer announced there was a split decision, with the judges scoring it 140-143, 144-140 and 143-140 for Perez who moves to his second straight World Tourney with a 9-1-1 (6) record. |
