Thanks, so what do you think Dillon's chances of breaking Ryan's record are?

He's got a good shot .. Depends on when he runs into Dempsey or Fitzsimmons, he'll need to be prime before facing those guys. His next fight will be for a title against either Butler or Byers. If he wins he automatically goes to prime. Butler would be tough.

McGovern defends title

March 31, 1911

Terry McGovern (CH) (35-7-4) scored a KO12 over Charles Goldman (4/4) (17-3-1) (pre) for the first defense of his WBA Bantamweight title.

Slow start to the fight had McGovern way ahead on points. Goldman landed a shot in the 8th that dropped McGovern. The champ barely beat the 10 count and held on the rest of the round. That seemed to light a fire underneath the champ as he dropped Goldman 5 times over the next 4 rounds and for good in the 12th.

McGovern moves to 12-4-1 in title fights.

I had it 107-98 at the stoppage.

On the undercard

BW - Joe McGrath (3/3) (15-3-2) UD10 Johnny Ritchie (28/37) (13-5-2) 97-95 (ritchie at pre, mcgrath stepped up to BW for this fight)

LW - Jimmy Carroll (23/17) (22-14-5) TD5 Patsy Sweeney (17/21) (16-12-2) 48-47 carroll (judges had it a SD)

LW - Sam Bolen (14/11) (18-12-1) UD10 George Monroe (34/41) (11-12-1) (monroe at pre)

HW - Humberto Rojas (club) (10-14-2) UD8 Watt Adams (club) (5-11-3) (adams at pre for this club fight)

BW - Young Hundreds (UR) (8-1-1) TKO8 Kid Bebee (club) (4-16-1) (hundreds at pre for this club fight)

Bob McAllister scored a TKO1 over the TC he was scheduled to face. Got an easy one after the championship loss to Fred Russell. McAllister moves to 15-2 (8).

Good deal - he is 10-0 for me with his only non-TC opponents being Cassius Clay Scott, Don Ellis and Mike Holt. This is Bob's second year in the ring.

tonight he fought Denver Ed Martin .... Martin came in as a 2-1 favorite and took control of the fight right off the bat. He easily won the first two rounds, only to be floored by Taylor twice in the Third. Taylor went on the offensive winning the 4th and 5th rounds easily. The sixth was close, with a slight edge going to Martin even though he was carrying his hands low. Within the first minute of the 7th Martin was cut underneath the right eye, Taylor went on the offensive and landed several shots. At the 2:00 mark, Martin landed his first punch of the round and cut Taylor above the left eye. The fight was stopped and the ring doctor called the fight.

The ring became a melee with Taylor's corner throwing punches at members of Martin's entourage. Martin's corner claimed racist remarks made and vowed revenge during the press conference. Taylor, evidently a Great X 4 relative of Oscar De La Hoya, claimed a full scale investigation would be launched.

"They want the Sullivan's and the Jackson's of the world winning fights, not the Taylor's" he was quoted as saying. Grand Master of the LBA, Mike Hanson, decreed that once both fighters were healthy, the normal scheduling rules would be set aside and a mandatory rematch would be scheduled.

One last thing I forgot ... Taylor was ahead 56-55, 58-54 and 57-55 on the official score cards and 57-55 on mine
Long long time ago ... Steve Taylor now toiling away at END and in the club ranks, was just moved to retired. By he had won 6 out of his last 10 fights so he gets to move back to End. His record is 20-21-2 (if memory serves) so he has a shot at getting back into the main division before he retires.

Almost done with scheduling for the month ... it would appear that Johnny Kilbane has a good shot at his first title as he is the challenger for Jimmy Brigg's WBC title.

It's good to see that Steve Taylor is still around and kicking hopefully he can even out his record and get another shot at the Main ranks before he's done for good. Also, that De La Hoya relative line was classic stuff.

Heenan defends regional title

April 5, 1911

John C. Heenan (8/4) (27-8-1) scored a KO2 over Jeff Clark (12/19) (13-2-1) in his first defense of the USBA HW title (heenan won it before the 30 fight limit was set).

Clark had a good first round and then got careless in the second. Heenan dropped him twice with the second time for good.

I had it 10-9 Clark after 1.

On the undercard

HW - James Jeffries (55/33) (38-11) KO6 Billy Clark (UR) (11-2) (clark at pre)

MW - Eddie McGoorty (45/38) (20-4-1) KO5 Harry Peppers (41/49) (9-5-4) (mcgoorty at pre)

LW - Tim Callahan (85/75) (13-7-1) UD10 George Wilson (70/84) (8-7-1) (both at pre)

FW - Joe Reilly (35/28) (10-8-1) UD10 Jimmy Hill (38/57) (14-5-1) (both at pre)

BW - Digger Stanley (club/49) (21-21-4) UD8 Ned Morris (club) (7-11-2) (stanley at post, Morris at pre in this club fight)
