A look around Chicago
This is, by a wide margin, the best, deepest and most dominant offense in IBL history.
Obviously Chavez's .406 jumps out, and it should, but there's 81 games left so we'll temper the excitement. Hudson is 'quietly' having an MVP season. Grueter, after a bad start, is raking, and driving in big runs. Earl Shaw continues to mash (though Swagat is beyond ready to be recalled, and I am unsure of what to do). Castro, Cruz and Miranda are all mashing. Shane Jackson is having a 'down' year, with just 1 HR after 4 straight 20+ homer seasons. Alex Vela is certainly picking up the slack. If Will Battle gets a shot he's going to be a machine in the leadoff spot. On the pitching side it's more of the same. A rotation deep from 1 to 5. Andy Morgan's having a very weird season, with an ERA above 5 but leading the league in K's. Trujillo just wins, sometimes not pretty, sometimes the hard way, but he wins and this year it's coming together. Rob Bright is starting to find his way, and pitching very well and the pen 'feels' like it's solid. I never in a million years would have guessed Ernesto Cruz would A) Still be closing B) and doing it at such a high level. Cisco Casas is a K machine, best arm I've ever had, and hopefully ready to slide into that role though Davenport could be a legitimate option. In the minors we are continuing along with the player development machine. Asiman Swagat is still just 20, and clearly ready to be an IBL DH. He's nowhere near ready defensively. 13 of the IBL's top 100 prospects reside in our system and they're all over the mound, and field. Last edited by gehrig38; 05-07-2013 at 03:27 PM. |

Wow, no kidding. Casas is wicked. Given his BABIP vs. Cruz, I think that change of roles might come sooner than later. |

Historic Day in Michigan!
Albert Pujols (MICH) joins Carlos Torres as the only players in IBL history to hit 4 home runs in single game. Torres accomplished the IBL first on 8/16/19 while playing for Buffalo in a win over Brooklyn.

Standings Leaders July 22nd
Philly, Boston, Pittsburgh all with a legit shot in the Keystone. El Paso hasn't been in the post season since 2020, but the Diablos, Hooks and Drillers are all in it in the Lone star. Fresno appears to be opening up the Pacific right now. Dallas has become a player in the franchises 8th season. Last year was their first .500 finish. Curt Whimster was a huge signing for them. Looks like the Southern will be them and the Silver Stars. Yanks, Knights and Cyclones all hanging around the Empire. Barring disaster I think we'll set the all time record for wins in the regular season (116 in 2021). With 64 games left we need to go 42-22 (.656 win %) Edmonton is aglow with the thought they could make their 1st post season appearance, ever. Along with Michigan they are 1 of the only 2 original IBL franchises to have never made the playoffs. West Michigan has the NE division pretty much locked up. Can he do it? .414 is pretty amazing considering the date. He plays very little vs LHP now so that could be a huge plus. Art Williams has helped Edmonton's surge with huge power numbers lately. Horst Grueter has had a ton of RBI's the past month, with Greene out for a spell he caught, and passed him in RBI's. Jose Navarro looks like he's going to challenge the Saves mark while Angelo Esparza looks to have his sights on the single season ERA record (2.14 Shawn Calhoun 2013) as well as making another run at a pitching triple crown. NEWS-Roughriders fire Castellanos. Manager Carlos Castellanos was fired by Houston today after his 4th season managing the club. After 4 years managing in Boston the Roughriders brought him over to shake things up, and he didn't. They also dealt C Martin Ramirez (news below). Fresno was already 1st in the CL in HR's. They're 6.5 up on Sacramento, but they did pay a pretty steep price for a 3 month rental if they don't resign him.
