Never saw Hamilton going to Ferrari.

Who goes to Mercedes? Sainz? Albon? Anyone have a good guess?

Sainz might suck up a year in the Sauber-what's-it-called car in 2025 before it gets taken over by Audi with the regulation change in 2026. Carlos Sainz sr. is already connected to them and won the Rally Dakar with Audi. Just imagine all the fun marketing opportunities that would allow for.

Reminds me of that Vettel quote from the Canadian GP several years back. Everyone's a Ferrari fan, even if you're not a Ferrari fan.

Oscar the Grouch has escaped his trash can, it seems.

What are these overalls???

If you do black and orange this wrong, I have no confidence in you building a car that can give Lando a W...

Ugh. I'm calling it now. Red Bull will win every race this season.

In celebration of today's season opener (calm down, it's only Saturday today; something something Ramadan), a few dumb old F1 memes from my permanent collection.

I hope Sainz beats Leclerc every race just to spite the entirety of Ferrari.

That was a weird race. I mean, not the part where Verstappen went off into the distance at 0.3s per lap, but how it seems like there are 3-4 teams that have qualifying and race pace close to Red Bull's and everyone but Sainz had massive issues in the race. It felt like Mercedes were lift and coasting from the moment the race started.

Bit dull, but that leaves room for improvement for the season.

Or something.

Yeah, no, this race wasn't worth the hype.

Most of the field was brawling for 54 laps, I can't find that boring.

I think it's nice that Haas' race pace seems to be better this year relative to their qualifying pace. Hopefully that means they can convert their sporadic Q3's into points.

Inside the points there wasn't a lot going on once Alonso had filtered to the bottom and Sainz to third. The back half was going back and forth, but that was all for the golden banana.

Would be funny if Oliver Bearman can sneak a few points on his debut and then remain like 15th in the championship well into the summer, because the Alpines, Saubers, and Sargeants look so completely woeful that even a 7th place or so might distance them for good.

It was fun watching Lando lead for a bit. It would be nice if he could hang on to a podium but I dunno if the mediums are going to go to the end here.

Doesn't matter, a pit stop is mandatory.

Regardless, McFoolish brought the wrong setup, perhaps built the wrong car entirely, did the wrong strategy, botched the pit stop, and is wholly and completely a terrible team. How the boys got away with 16 points with that **** show is beyond me.

Thumbs up to Bearman, scoring a sixer.

Did Lando start on hards or something? Otherwise, I don't understand why they put him on mediums during the SC. Considering Piastri finished 4th, it seems like Lando could have been at least near the podium.

Lando did not pit during the safety car. [insert curses for the McFoolish pit wall]

Lando, Sir Lewis, Huelkenberg, and Zhou all started on yellows and did not pit during the safety car. It worked out only for Huelkenberg, and only because Magnussen threatened to murder everybody trying to pass him.

I grant you that I barely know the F1 rules, but in Indy Car and NASCAR, a timely yellow flag can be like manna from heaven. Why would a team NOT pit during the safety car?

The thing is that you have to pit two cars in the same pit stall, one after the other.

Regardless, six teams managed to do just that, just fine, during the safety car...

Does this mean that The Celebrated Lando is so low in his team's pecking order that the other car got priority over him? Or was this simply a brain freeze, on someone's part?

Ossie was ahead of him. If anything, you try to do the wacky strategy with the trailing car, which has less to lose.
