The Jays trailed the Yankees by 8-1, but they never gave up. Glenallen Hill homered twice and they tied it up in the 8th before Kelly Lewis, a ten game hitting streak on the line, drove in pinch runner Pat Schmidt with an RBI single to give Toronto a 10-inning, 9-8 win.

The Jays have passed the Yankees to no longer be in the AL East cellar.

WP - Gary Hudson (2-2)
LP - Ramon Flores (0-3)

Record - 27-37

Doug Dascenzo's hamstring spasms will only bench him for a couple of days.

Well, that could have been a lot worse. Tony Fernandez has a strained back muscle and while he will be riding the pine for up to a week, he will not need IL time.

Meanwhile, Fernandez is in 3rd for All-Star Voting at SS. Jim Abbott is in 4th for SP.
