Southport was up 4-1 going into the 9th inning. It looked like a sure thing that they would repeat and win their 3rd title in 4 years. But three straight singles to start the top of the ninth gave Sugar Valley some hope, and then it all unravelled for Southport, including a huge error. After scoring 5 runs, the Rattlers set the Sun Sox down in order in the bottom of the ninth to deny absolute euphoria in Southport and send the series back to Sugar Valley.

The Southport Sun Sox have done it! It wasn't easy. Another ninth inning disaster nearly happened but they survived by the skin of their teeth to win their 3rd title in 4 years. The Sun Sox have tied the Colfax Black Sox for the most titles in the 20-year league history. They have become the first repeat champion since the Cold Creek Raccoons of 1904-1905. Give the Sugar Valley Rattlers credit, they put up a fight and would not give up until the final out was made. Congratulations to the Southport Sun Sox. They are now a legit dynasty.
