well...if we are talking about Mets starting pitchers only, my top 5 is Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, Fernandez and Darling.
i dont even give Pedro Martinez a nod...

and in Koosman's defense, he was on some lousy Mets teams of the 70's...

he was a darn good pitcher....not HOF...but pretty darn good!

I was talking about overall body of work as a whole. As for your top five, I might bump Darling for Leiter. There's an embarrassment of riches though with Jon Matlack as well.

Agreed on Koosman. Hall of Very, very good. Put it this way Jack Morris better not get in before Koosman does because Koosman's easily the better pitcher. Not that either of them are HoFers, but Jack Morris could get traction as soon as next year with the Veterans Committee.

38 days to go. I'll start off by marking the occasion with Drew Henson, two-sport athlete who never fulfilled his vast potential in either sport he played.

This guy was a failed starter for the Blue Jays, who went down and re-invented himself as a sidearmed reliever, and returned to finish 6th in CYA voting (should've been higher), and third in ROY voting (I think you can make a case that he should've won, but Jose Canseco and Wally Joyner finished ahead of him) in 1986. 69 G, 0 GS, 157.0 IP, 166 K, 14-6, 10 SV, 1.72 ERA, 2.31 FIP, 0.96 WHIP, 6.0 H/9, 0.5 HR/9, 2.6 BB/9, 9.5 K/9, 3.69 K/BB. Outstanding!

This guy was plumb loco, but you can't deny the talent that was there, both on the mound and at the plate (24 career HR in 744 career PA). Carlos Zambrano #38

I had him in a league back in 1986. Both rotisserie and in Micro League Baseball (well that was in 87 in MicroLeague). S T U D

From one champion in 1969 to another champion in 1986.

How about Rick Aguilera, one of the forgotten heroes from the 1986 squad?

I just read an article about Wilson earlier today about how he's now beardless and attempting to make a comeback as a knucklballer.

Brian Wilson, Now Beardless, Plotting MLB Comeback As Knuckleballer | MLB | NESN.com

I don’t know if we can credit him with starting the hipster beard trend, but he was definitely one of its most visible early adopters.

And the magic number is now 37. Casey Stengel was one of the most colorful characters to ever don a baseball uniform. In fact, he had something very few people in or out of baseball have...his very own language, "Stengelese".

Between Stengel and Yogi Berra, that Yankee clubhouse in the 1950's was a veritable Magic 8-Ball of indecipherable one-liners and kooky quotes.

The number 37 is very well represented in Blue Jays land. Just retire this guy's number already Blue Jays. Do the right thing. The greatest (in terms of what he did as a Blue Jay) to ever play for the Blue Jays in their relatively short history. Dave Stieb #37

There have been a couple of Blue Jays that have worn the number 37 since Stieb retired that are worthy of mention here. Scott Downs was awesome out of the bullpen for us between 2005 and 2010. Reed Johnson was a gritty, dirtbag type of player for us who gave up the number 37 to Scott Downs when Downs arrived in 2005. Scott Downs #37 Reed Johnson #37

Although he was much more famous for his time in Boston, Bill Lee also pitched for the Montreal Expos, and for some reason it was much easier to find pics of him as an Expo than as a Red Sox. Bill Lee #37

It's tough for a Yankee fan (or Sox fan for that matter) my age to see the Spaceman's name mentioned and not remember that monumental brawl he was injured in back 1976. It was brutal. The sight of him emerging from one of the piles and gingerly walking off the field holding his pitching arm in visible pain is one I have never forgotten.

Besides Casey Stengel, no other player in Mets history has worn #37!

So here is Casey in a Mets jersey!

Keith Hernandez probably would have if he had had the choice as that's the number he's most associated with in St. Louis, but we'll see him in 20 days or so I'm sure.
