Okay, I have been playing since this afternoon. I like the changes, the game is faster, 3D is worthwhile, the new options are great...outside of me not liking any of the skins (and that's on me), it looks simply magnificent.

As I fearlessly predicted, it's the best version ever!

First I appreciate the fellas that got my code dl to me because I didn't get it the regular way for some reason.

And I've spent only about an hour on the game because my grandsons were with me. Getting ready to check more stuff tonight.

But I have to admit my early feelings about the game are way below what I was expecting. I did about 5 innings of a historical game in 3D and was so disappointed to hear that it plays better with short pbp. For me a top biggie in the game is the Win10 announcer fella and the detailed script in the game. Just like the old radio days for me. Pitch by pitch. I don't have to read read read all the time with my 71 year old eyes.

When I saw the best play of the 3D is with the short script I was very disappointed.I'll try some more with the full script while the play is long finished but the short script for me is not real baseball from a radio like the good ol' days. : )

I may have missed it but to get out of the game I had to complete with a sim because I could find no way to leave the game in the 5th and save it. ??? The old config in 16 had an auto setting for the ballpark which filled the whole 32" screen with the ballpark pic and then the stat stuff on the sides. Could not find such a setting on 17 but I'll look in different spots. The biggest I could get the ballpark was 2/3's of the screen in 17.

I know an hour is a quick look so I hope now that my dear grandsons are home I can give the game a more thorough look.

I hope later on the enthusiasm will come back but the early look wasn't what I thought it would be.

The actual 3D look is great but the short script ruins it for me.

Maybe I'm just getting too old. : )

The sim is really fast.. the Finish Today still takes the same amount of time.

In config screen, there is a dropdown for the field and the first option is auto-fill. not sure if this is your problem but I hope it helps

Also, next to "quick play to..." the option farthest most right says "save and leave"

So, in my simming today, I had a crash. I was simming 2016 on my third run (all separate leagues) with pretty much all autosaves and logs to the max.

The game crashed on July 6 with a message something like OOTP has stopped working. I don't have the exact error because I was having an issue posting earlier. Didn't try to get a screen shot, figured the crash would prevent.

Happened again on Sept 28. Could I be causing this by maximizing and minimizing as I do different tasks (like pop back here while the sim is running)?

I hear you, Jack. But it's one step at a time with something as complicated as animation.

Step 1 = getting animation in the game.
Step 2 = syncing the animation with the short PbP
Step 3 = syncing the animation with the full PbP
Step 4 = syncing the animation with the full PbP + TTS

The boyz are still working on Step 2, refining it. Steps 3 and 4, if they happen, will have to wait for a later version.

Personally, I haven't tried playing in 3D with full PbP + TTS. It takes the narrator a lot longer to speak the text than for us to read it. So, I imagine syncing up 3D and TTS will be quite a challenge. Meanwhile, reading the text while watching the 3D action is not half-bad. It grows on you, even the short PbP. I just tried it with the full PbP and, again, it's not bad. If you accept that the 3D animation is an approximation, then I find that it supplements the full PbP text rather nicely.

That said, I know you'd prefer not to read the text. I understand. Perhaps, you'd consider switching back and forth between the different modes. Sometimes, you could go back to full PbP and TTS w/o 3D. Other times, you could watch the 3D action with the short PbP (less text to read). Find a combination that works for you, in other words. Other than that, I wish I could help you feel better about OOTP17. I know you were excited about getting it. :-\

Going going gone ! A Home Run for the OOTP team. Excellent work folks.

Easy download, game worked right away, did not even need to touch the game settings

As others have already stated, I am more impressed by the 3D than I thought I would be, almost hip - mo- - tized.

I like the World Series face-offs, and the fact that the Mets just beat the Royals in 2015 in seven didn't hurt

and now it's time to get back to the action

I'm guessing this is a system resource issue but I'm not really shore. While simming if you maximize or minimize the game or change window size the whole screen goes black for a few seconds but the sim seems to suffer no ill effects.

Probably a non-issue but I figure I'll throw it out there to see if anyone else has seen this or if it's something that needs to be looked at.

So far noticing some little things, mostly speed improvements.

Interface gets better every year - starting to look downright pretty.
Text generator seems improved but I can't figure out how, exactly.

Good ol' Harry Caray. Your work looks great. I was trying to use deskpin and have an announcing pic of Jack Buck but the game won't let the pic on the screen.

I'm still working on the game. I can live with the 3D finishing the play while listening/reading the script. I was doing that in v16. I can see where they would have a lot of work to do with the timing. I would think that full script and 3D would never work out.

I have a new problem. When the game screen was filled the big screen with just a half-inch around the borders not covered it looked fine. Now the game screen is too large for the big screen for some reason. Still trying to figure that one out.

I'll keep working on things. I won't give up because even if I go to non-3D this game in v16 (I'm sure the same in 17) has just captured me especially with the full orbed announcing audio.

Problems Player Transaction News shows up for 94 Quickstart but not for Historical League like 98 or even Current Year. Also like 98 Draft one League Chris Duncan is in it and another Durazo is in it so the Game thinks Randomize Draft Classes is turned on but I don't have it on but like Nat Anderson does show up in both Drafts and have it set at 70 rounds but the Computer changes the number.

Also don't us 94,Quickstart in other Leagues like 98 or you will clause league to exit and also,if you change Like in 94 SP to 6 man next year it goes back to 5 man also in same League or 98 no Rule 5 Draft.

Also I haven't had a Rule 5 Draft yet in this version but it's probley not hard to code in First round MLB portion then Triple-A and so on and also next to like Durham Bulls say like contract with Tampa Bay like intill 2019 and also in News Social Media from MLB.com Insiders.

So I spent the day playing and not reading the forum.
The speed increase is noticeable even at the end of every play.
The 3D looks to be off to a good start. Very smooth motion.
Too good to be true >> Historical Minors AND Historical Exhibition mode.
The day/date are back on the game screen.
Auto-generated game headlines and recaps. I like mostly my teams recaps on the news page (I see some others don't). It gives it the feel of a 'local' newspaper.

I have only one negative, a personal preference of sorts.
I too do not like any of the skins. But as with any app, on any device, if there is a dark skin, that's the one always for me. I thought last years dark skin was the best one of all-time. But this year .. it's cluttered with background images. It has a lot of white / lighter colors. I think it's fair to say most dark skin lovers want darkness, all darkness.

During the last two years, this game has really taken a lot of leaps forward. To those that don't buy this game every year, I would say this is the year you have to buy it.

Thank you all for such a fine product.

Having played on and off for the last few years but never fully being sucked in, this is the year that I can tell, I am going to lose, hours, days, weeks to this game.

Historical exhibition is SOOOOO cool! I played a best of 5 between the '98 Yankees and the '27 Yankees where the '27 team took it in 5. Such a great system to implement and a real chance now for a number of arguments to be settled :-)

Also, just for reference, I'm playing the game on a Windows 10 2in1 tablet/laptop hybrid and it runs so much better than I would have expected! While I'm still going to buy MLB Manager, I suspect I'll be playing the full fat version on my tablet, a lot more

I agree, I like a little more vibrancy in the colors and each of the skins has a drab, washed out effect IMO. A minor nit but I definitely liked last year's skin better.
