Woot! None of this Lahman 1871 chicanery messes up my 1871 start. I don't want the the players to go to the right teams every year. Yay.

I see how it's a problem for those who do though. Damn that Lahman guy!

This saves me so much time and effort! I used to sort the database by birthday and import players manually into the draft at a set age. No more! Thanks a million guys.

I understand this is not the place to ask this, but... any hint on how to create an ODB from edited CSVs?
I've tried with OpenOffice and Access, no luck so far.

Got all the team abbreviations updated today.

The last thing I'm thinking of doing is replacing the team names and abbrev and franchises Garlon came up with. I think using his structure makes sense so I'm just speaking of connecting 1800's teams to the original 16 franchises like Garlon did but using the real teams name and abbrev as it existed back in the day.

So for example viewing line1 in the attached attachment I propose replacing the St. Louis Brown Stockings with Ft. Wayne. Line 2 and 3 shows we have two possible Cleveland Forest Cities replacements, Cleveland and Rockford. In this case Cleveland would get the nod and Rockfords players will become free agents. The first team name in any line in the attached file is the team name as it is now in OOTP and the second is the proposed new historic name.

What this change would really do is allow pre-1901 players to appear as rookies on their historic teams if one chooses not to have a non-historic draft. The rookie players on teams that do not appear on this list would become free agents.

If someone has eyes they are not currently using for any decent or indecent purpose and can give this file a once or twiceover looking for challenges, please do.

Thanks

This weekend I will be updating the pre-1901 team assignments. <--- This is now done, running a 1871 to 1901 test sim while I am out doing gardening and mowing stuff, to make sure there are no errors.

Other than it is all done.

Last weekend I fixed a bunch of missing info for Korean pitchers so that is now more complete. Then I updated the process to create all eight of the different databases to semi-automatic rapid fire.

After I alter the pre-1901 bit I'll make the odb files. Look for an upload on Sunday.

This question has probably been asked before, but can you continue a saved game with a new, updated database?

FYI and I'll start on your requested alterations with an approx. completion date of 6/13/10. I have updated my db with your newest debut info and fixed the other Spritze errors you noted so the THING is I think the alterations may all be accidently included in the "College/Real" neutered Spritze db anyhoot (not the high school ones that should be out Sunday). I'll check on that and let you know. If so you can just rename the Spritze one that fits to Gambo and I'll pull the other off line.

Added 2,907 Player Seasons per your notes by adjusting Debuts to an earlier year.
Would have added 4,270 Missing Player Seasons but most were not missing upon further review.
Subtracted 38,956 Player Seasons for the Real Debut versions but left them in for the High School Eligible versions.

Fyi

Just finished finding and correcting a failure in the MLE neutralization process as pointed out by Gambo when he noticed Ty Cobb had a .045 MLE batting average in 1904 as a minor leaguer. That challenge has been found and expunged. I had altered a formula "way over there" a few weeks ago that I thought should not have affected anything "way over here" but it had and I had not noticed. Took a while to find but it has been fixed.

I'm now up to where I should have been 12 hours ago.

Sorry for the delay. The next step is to produce the various and sundry db's.

Watch for them shortly, I'll remove the db's on the site in a few minutes so as the new ones appear you'll be able to tell.

Not really. Just did some family stuff with the kids, I don't consider that a delay, it is just real life kicking in. Maybe I'll get to the odb's this afternoon or evening.

New High School (Age 18 draft eligible) versions are uploading now.
Real debut versions in a few days.

Fixes Team Abbreviations
Uses true pre-1901 teams when possible
Fixed a MLE calculation error so minor leaguers like Cobb and Aaron are back to where they were a version or two ago which is where they should be.

I hope this question hasn't been answered already...

I downloaded the "RealDebut, RealTeam, AllPlayers" version a few days ago, and just got around to trying it out yesterday. I was testing it with the 1996 Mariners, and I noticed that my major/minor league rosters had guys that had already left the team (guys like Brad Holman, Henry Cotto...)

I'm pretty sure that as long as players haven't retired from pro baseball, they're still in the game. I think that's a great feature, since you never know who could have gotten a second chance if things had gone differently.

But is there a way for players that have already left the team to be free agents instead of on the roster?

I haven't tried importing complete history yet, but I'll try in a couple days (I'll be out of town and won't have much time to play around with OOTP)

I also haven't tried downloading the "no asians" version, but I don't think that would make a difference in this case.

I believe Spritze is working to fix this. If it is not don't worry as my version of it should have this corrected. The players will import with the organization they were with on opening day.

Good, that's what I was hoping for.

I knew there was already one update, I just got a little confused about which "fixes" were already updated and which ones were coming soon.

thanks!
