How would captkirk know release was the 12th if he hadn't checked since the 1st as he said?

Anyway, I nearly got screwed by time zones, but I'm glad to see Markus considered us Americans and extended it to 12:00 EDT for us. I was expecting it to end at 6:00 yesterday due to the time difference, and wasn't able to order until 6:30... so I was surprised to see it being $29.99!

Its been posted for awhile that we could pre order right up until the day before release, so I came a few days early to preorder only to find out they had changed it on me. I never said I hadn't checked the site since the first either. I said I just don't have time to check everyday.

Thats what I thought, I am on a tight budget and maybe 10 bucks isn't alot for most people, but right now its going to keep me from getting this game for awhile. I think if your going to say its 29.99 up until release they shouldn't change it on people because I came 4 days before release and it just don't seem very fair to me.

I am very sorry. We sent out a newsletter a week ago (you should have received it too) about the change, and announced it here as well. It was obvious that some people would miss this change of policy, and I apologize to those. But unfortunately there was no way to prevent this from happening after we decided to change the policy because of the stated reasons.

So you can't give the people a coupon code to make good on the promised deal?

I will just get mogul then, sorry I don't like to deal with companies that change things. You might have changed the policy a week ago but I didn't get anything stating this, I have bought several games from you in the past but this just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I may or may not be back only time will tell, but this is not a good business practice.

Never got an email about the change and don't check the forums. Last email I got was "OOtP 11 Road to Release Begins? Preorder now for 25% discount!" It says "Preordering will continue through the release of the game in April 2010." And now I think about getting it and no discount. Looks like v10 for another year.

IMHO, OOTP has done enough to let those who care to know that the pre-order dates had changed, and they gave a good reason as to why.

And it does not seem to be "people" at the moment, but rather a very vocal, and persistant single person who seems to want to shame Markus in to giving him 10 bucks by posting in every thread on the board.

Sorry to say, but if spending the extra $10 is that much of a crippling problem, then you probably shouldn't be spending $30 on a game to begin with.

Somehow I doubt you were sorry to say this. The same logic would justify any increase in price. If you could pay $40, why not $50? If $50 why not $60?

In any event, it certainly is a disappointment. It's one thing to end a preorder discount window -- your product, your price -- but it's something else entirely to announce one and then change it. I also don't quite see how "feedback from users who want to support small software developers" is a justification for the change, but again, your product and all that.

Also unnecessarily condescending and I can assure you not the case. I'm not whoever you're referring to, this is going to be my only post on the subject, and I'm not trying to shame anybody into anything. I'm still here to say it was a regrettable decision and one that's going to cost them at least one customer for the foreseeable future.

I agree for two reasons. 1) Our share is much bigger when you get it directly from our website and 2) patches will be made available sooner (the reason is simple, we can post it here the second the patch is ready, while the publisher still has to get it to the various places the game is sold from or update its own website).
