It's a strange feeling.
The Sox are doing well, and I am not confident about them at all, and I am not that excited about baseball.
I wonder why that is...

Probable reasons.

1. Papi is missing.
2. Beckett is not as dominant as he was the last year, that means we don't have THE ace.
3. Our bullpen sucks.
4. I am getting used to the Sox being in a 1st place.

5. It's still June
6. OOTP9 was released!

Call me a cynic, but I can't see JD keeping this up for much longer. Beckett should turn things around, he's too good not to. As for Daisuke, save for that one start, he's been solid. Add in Lester and Wakefield to that mix and then the depth of having Colon, Masterson, and Buchholz to choose from as the fifth starter, I'm not too worried about the starting rotation. As for the bullpen, Oki isn't what he was last year, but he isn't the monster we have been making him out to be recently. Delcarmen is pretty good, Hansen has shown promise (especially today), and Aardsma is underrated. Add in the minor league depth (Chris Smith is a machine, despite the inherited grand slam), and the whole pitching staff looks pretty darn good. I'm not worried at all. Those pesky Rays will have to drop off at some point.

And how about Youk with the walkoff magic today?

I know Youkilis4MVP,

I just wanted to pour some gasoline on this very quiet thread...
I am glad you came in!

Well, but with maybe several more injuries later, we might see another 2005 coming... JK

Remember the last time all of us thought Tampa was for real? 2004... when they actually finished 4th!

Well, there is always the first time for everything.

The Red Sox could have easily lost 2004 ALCS in game 4 or 5, could have made some bad off season moves right after that, and could still be without the WS title in 90 years right now.

What I wanna say is, if something clicks in a right way, Rays could win it all and I will not be surprised at all. They are probably a couple of decent veteran players away from being the championship team IMO.

I'm surprised you guys are not talking about:
  1. Youkilis being hunted by Chamberlain (I don't think those incidents are coincidences, myself) and,
  2. Ramirez's latest antic. Not the hilarious misfielded ball-under-rump video, no. The pouting on the bench with a fake knee injury over next year's contract option (two World Championships won with him notwithstanding, that would bother the heck out of me if I were his GM, manager, or teammate).
As a matter of fact, you guys aren't talking about much of anything right now.

That's one of the issues with MLB is that warnings to a player only last the game. They should last say 15PA between pitcher and batter (though this would cause almost lifetime warnings in interleague!)

And with Ramirez, what's the point of being a jerk. He ain't gonna get $20m on the free market so it's a bit stupid getting the goat of the only team that can offer it...

Agree in principle, if not in detail. And if I am barred from the Yankees thread for saying so, I trust that I can rely upon your services to rectify that situation. Chamberlain seems to be playing a potentially deadly serious game with Youkilis for some reason or another, and it should not be tolerated. I am a lifelong Yankees fan, but not to the rabid point of some who would find an excuse for such behavior just because he is a Yankee.

And you can count upon my moral support if they attempt to ban you from this thread for this comment. Although, with your newfound godlike powers, you will make short work of that, I have no doubt. "Manny being Manny" has worn thin with me, and I live 250 miles away from where he primarily does his thing! But if you folks continue to tolerate him for his batting contributions, when his head is on straight, that's fine with me; it's not like a gambling or steroids thing after all. It's just that I go back to a time when players put their teammates ahead of themselves, even if they were the stars of the team.

Who's doing the banning and stuff? I won't and if you did get barred from the Yankees thread for saying that I'd be upset. Joba doesn't need to do this, he is going to be one of the pitching sensations of the next decade but if he sends Youk to hospital at some point it's going to be that that hangs over him like a sword of Damocles...

It would be nice if we could transplant Manny-hitting into another player (say Lugo!!) - and if we could, to do it just after we'd traded him for another head-screwed on player...

I read that as saying "that was very close to beaning ugly too, a few inches higher..." - and I thought, he's no adonis, A-Rod, but he's not that bad...

1st time ever the Angels have swept the Saux home and away in the same season. Boston is looking like an old and tired team.

I must agree.

They sure do not look like a 2007 championship team.
I guess the players are tired of all the "Manny going, Manny not going, Manny says the team do not deserve him" talks.

I hope it does not have anything to do with their trip to Japan...

I was at the game last night, and quite frankly, it was one of the worst ball games I've ever had the displeasure of seeing. I, for one, am all for trading Manny. It was funny, at the start of the game last night a few people booed Manny. Then when people realized "wow, this might actually have an effect on our team", they gave it to him pretty good.

What's bad about the Red Sox right now is that it seems as if EVERYONE is slumping at the SAME TIME. They're a lot better than what they're playing, so lets hope it can be turned around.

It's like deja-vu - a Ramirez being traded to the Marlins, bet we don't get a Lowell and Beckett back this time though...

You might just get a Bay instead.
