RD I'll most likely be taking you up on that offer..

On a side note, I'm going to try and make these financials as accurate as possible with the right media contracts (I'm sure I can find this) but merchandising as well (or somewhat close to the right number). Does anyone know anywhere that would have a merchandising figure close to what we're looking for? I'm not really looking for a dead on number, but a close number would be nice.

Instead of erasing the old injury list and replacing it, it keeps the old one and adds to it, and some strange things start happening with injury frequency. I've posted this in Tech Support, and it's been TT'ed. Everything is fine if you start a new game from scratch with a new injuries.txt file; it's only if you want to change the injuries in a game that's underway that there's a problem. So if your rosters exist as a saved game file, it might be tricky to change the injuries.

In any case, I've been running some tests with various modifications to injuries.txt (time consuming, because I have to start a new game each time). It's hard to control the frequency of injuries- I have one suspension a week for a pitcher doctoring the baseball at the moment- but I'm getting close to something I like. I'd be happy to post it here, and I'd be interested in hearing other ideas- I haven't started a new thread on the topic, but if you want to start one, I'll find it. I was hoping to hear from someone who knows more about the OOTP injury implementation, but that might not happen.

If I can find some time, I'll also try to dig up info on minor league injuries as well; I did some research already, but didn't get very far.
I think the problem with totally clearing the injury file and then importing a new injuries.txt is those players with existing injuries. You might have broken neck in the same position as broken nail is currently in an injuries list, so any player with a broken nail would probably be listed as having a broken neck and on a DTD basis.

I don't actually have an injuries.dat file in my saved games, so I'm guessing the only way to create it is to reimport injuries.txt - if I do that I should be able to write back to the .dat file. Probably the easiest thing to do with that would be to blank all the existing injuries in the database and let people re-modify those on the DL back with the correct diagnosis?

If you guys want an injuries.txt to injuries.dat (I presume that's the name) importer that also clears down all existing injuries, then let me know and I'll try to get one out in the next couple of days.

dola,

I started a new league and clicked the re-import injuries button a couple of weeks into the season, but I still don't have an injuries.dat file. I can't see where else in the database this is stored (it's not in world.dat)

The customization guide mentions an injuries.dat file, but it doesn't seem to exist; obviously the information goes from injuries.txt to somewhere, but I don't know where. In OOTP 2006, it's my understanding that it was possible to start a game from scratch with a modified injuries.txt file, copy the newly created injuries.dat file into the saved game folder of any saved game (replacing the old injuries.dat), and have a correctly updated injuries database for an ongoing game- I never tried it, but I imagine this would have produced the broken nail/broken neck problem. I asked about this workaround in tech support when I posted about the re-import bug; the re-import issue was logged, but I didn't get any info about where the injuries.dat file is in OOTP 2007 or a work around (that thread here: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar....php?t=148582).

I'll start a thread in General on all of the issues I've encountered trying to make a realistic injuries.txt file.

Cubby...the problem with merchandizing is that it is still used to cover the gaps between team income and payroll in OOTP. In the real MLB, each team gets equal amounts of merchandizing revenue because it is part of the league general fund along with national TV and MLB.com revenue. OOTP's financial model isn't setup to model the real MLB.

This is from Forbes.com... an article written Apr 2006:

Quote:
...and the Yankees account for 27% of all league merchandise sales, the profits of which get shared equally throughout the league to the tune of more than $3 million per franchise. In effect, much of the league operates as subsidiaries of the Bronx Bombers.
The obvious problem is that OOTP does not formulate merchandising revenue correctly. It says real MLB teams share $3M per franchise, but with 06 financial settings, most teams will make $20-30M a year in merchandising. Maybe it also adds concessions sales, stadium advertising, luxery seats, parking and who knows what else?

Financial information in OOTP has always been very vague... and rarely have I ever understood where my money comes from or where it goes.

Hm very interesting. I suppose then we could aim at getting media contracts correct, and then using the merchandising dollars to (as you said) bridge the gap and make the total team revenue cover the payrolls. I'd just like to be at least a little like real life where some teams (the correct teams) are close to the limit in spending and others have money to spend.

Although I guess who is who is also up to interpretation, some would say the Marlins have a ton of money to spend. Loria would probably disagree.

Ok, I've done some work on compiling a list of minor league injuries. It's almost impossible, without spending a month on the research, to get accurate diagnoses for injuries to obscure minor leaguers, but I've listed DL time from the start of the season for a lot of players. It's a long document, so I've attached it, Word format. I can post a .txt instead, or paste it directly here if that would be helpful.

File Type: doc MinorsInjuries.doc (44.0 KB, 431 views)

Happy to help, and looking forward to the rosters! I'll ask in General if there are any serious injuries I've missed- I bet there are a few.

Alright here's where we sit right now, managers are all renamed. Player ratings for MLB/AAA are done for everyone but seven teams. In addition, all financials are in, I've sent the file to hb to fix birthdates and touch up some of the lower minors, and then he's sending it back to me in a few days.

At that time, I'll go into major crunch mode to hammer out these last seven teams, and we should be good to go.

I THINK, if importing minor league stats is as hard as I've heard, we'll release a set without mL stats (but everything else) and then work on getting those in the game, and release a set with the minor league stats, as well as a full Japanese league on top of it as a second set, so you guys can have a set to play around with sooner rather than later.

Got the file yesterday been working on correcting the birthdates which should take another couple days only because theres over 7000 players and i am checking each one to make sure all is good. Set looks good, ratings look good... not promising a date but its very, very soon.
