Both Missoula in the East & Jupiter in the Central clinched with healthy leads over the the rest of the division. The Osprey won their 2nd division title, with the 1st being in 1904 while the Hammerheads made it 2 straight Central division pennants. Then there was the other 2 spots, the West champ & the wildcard. Out West, the 2 teams that have combined for 6 of the 7 division titles were at it again. The schedule makers must have realized this as they had Vancouver & Brooklyn meet to end the year. Tied heading into the 100th and final game of the year, the Canadians pulled out a 4-2 victory to clinch their 2nd straight West pennant. It also gave them 4 division titles and 5 playoff appearances as well as the 1901 IRL Championship in their 7 year history. Finally, the wildcard came down to 2 teams in the East. Ogden, as the only 2-time IRL World Series winner has the experience, but Idaho Falls had made the playoffs 2 years in a row and have had the more recent success. The Raptors clinched with a season ending win over Orem, giving them the wildcard berth and making it 3 post-season berths, with the previous 2 times ending in a championship. Code:

In the East & the West, the team that wasn't neccessarily the best won the pennants. Williamsport was 4 games worse in the pyt record, yet they knocked off defending champion Hudson Valley to win their 1st division title and their 2nd straight playoff berth. Even more drastic out West, Kannapolis was 10 games worse in the pyt rec than Asheville, yet the Intimidators were able to end Asheville's run of 4 straight division titles and will be making their 1st post-season appearance. Asheville got a bit of consoliation prize however. Even though their division championship streak came to an end, they kept another IRL record streak alive, qualifing for their 6th consecutive playoffs as the wildcard. Finally, in the Central, which was the worst division in the league, the only team that finished above .500 wound up walking away with the pennant. Vermont went from worst last year to 1st this season, winning their 2nd pennant in 3 years with their first coming in 1904. 1906 PLAYOFFS WILDCARD: In the first round of the playoffs this year, teams from the same division reached the LCS and the rivals will play for a trip to the IRL Championship. In the Washington League, East rivals Missoula & Ogden will meet in the WLCS. Missoula knocked off Vancouver 2 games to 1 while Ogden swept Jupited 2-0. And in the LL, the 2 West division teams, Asheville & Kannapolis advanced when they knocked out Vermont & Williamsport, respectively, both in 2 game sweeps. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: Missoula needed only 3 games to sweep and defeat 2-time IRL Champion Ogden. After a league best 71 win season, the Osprey proved they were indeed the best in the Washington League and will be making their first trip to the Championship. Paul Watson was named series MVP as Missoula's LF racked up 4 RBI in the series while going an impressive 6 for 13 including 3 doubles. The LL was a different story, as the team with the most playoff experience in the league used it to their advantage. Asheville beat Kannapolis 3-1 to advance to their 2nd IRL World Series, winning the 1st in 1902. The Tourists have the best resume in the league with 6 straight playoff appearances and used it to their advantage vs the newbie Intimidators. Jack Coombs was named series MVP winning games 1 & 4 while allowing 3 earned runs in 14 ip. ROOKIE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: "MISSOULA'S MAGNIFICENT SEASON" Missoula capped a record setting 71-win season with a Championship trophy. The best team in the league all year proved that the regular season does indicate something as they knocked off Asheville 4 games to 1 to win their first IRL World Series. Their big 4 SPs each won 1 game in the series after all 4 finished with 10+ wins during the regular season and team offensive leader, 2b Glenn Bowers was the series MVP hitting 1 hr and driving in 7 in the 5 game series including winning game 3 with a walkoff 9th inning HR. I guess it's official, Gasporra is the greatest hitter in IRL history. Winning his 2nd consecutive MVP award, he bocmes the only repeat award winning in league history. He also lead all of the league in OPS & RBI and led the WL in homers. The good news is that he is finally getting some time in the majors with Anaheim after dominating the minors for 4 straight seasons and hopefully, he won't be back for a 3rd straight IRL MVP award and will remain in the bigs. CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Joe Harris (Vancouver Canadians) - 24yo / USA - IRL CY YOUNG Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 21 g - 21 gs - 13-4 rec - 0 sv - 1.56 era - 138.2 ip - 33 bb - 68 k - 1.03 whip - Career Stats: 21 g - 21 gs - 13-4 rec - 0 sv - 1.56 era - 138.2 ip - 33 bb - 68 k - 1.03 whip (minors/1 yr) 21 g - 21 gs - 13-4 rec - 0 sv - 1.56 era - 138.2 ip - 33 bb - 68 k - 1.03 whip (career/1 yr) - Overview: The 4th rd pick in the most recent draft proved the scouts wrong as he was easily the most dominant pitcher in the minors in his 1st season. Leading all the league in ERA while tying for tops in Wins in the WL, Harris was impressive while leading Vancouver to a division title. He also finished 2nd in Vorp and figures to be a major player for Colorado next season. Barajas only played 1/2 the season in the IRL before being promoted to the majors, but still led the league in Vorp and finished among the leaders in HR & RBI. Had he played out the full year, he was on pace for record breaking 40+ hr/100+ rbi season. He has struggled a bit with the Giants since being called up as he is in his 1st season after being a 6th rd pick in the last rookie draft. Odds are he will begin the season with SF though, so it looks like his IRL career is over after 50 games. He tied for league lead with 14 wins, and while not leading in any 1 category, he was in the top 5 in ERA, Whip & Vorp and was the leader on the team that won the LLCS. 1906 [league redacted] LEAGUE POST SEASON REPORT

The reigning 3-time *** Champion lost many of their top players in the off-season, but they still had the heart of a champion and refused to let their streak come to an end without making a run at it. In the end though, Fukuoka was just too much and was able to end the the Ninja's reign over the Pacific League. The Daiei Hawks will be making their 2nd trip to the *** Championship after winning it in 1900, the 1st season of the league. Code:

Constantly predicted to being one of the best in the league, Yokohama had never finished better than 3rd in the Central previously and were always known as underachievers. But this season it all came together for the Bay Stars as they were able to clinch early with a comfortable 8 game lead and will be heading to the *** Championship for the 1st time. 1906 PLAYOFFS NIPPON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: "YOKOHAMA ARE THE STARS OF THE LEAGUE" The Bay Stars lived up to their name, walking away with the Japanese league championship in a 4-2 series win over Fukuoka. Ending Tohoku's 3 yr reign as league best, Yokohama becomes the 1st Central League team to win the title since Yomiuri did in 1901. Led by reigning Cy Young winner Rube Waddell, Yokohama jumped out to a 2-0 series lead before clinching it in 6 games. Waddell went 1-0 in 2 games started, winning the opener and a ND in game 5. He had a 1.20 era in 15 ip and struck out an impressive 15 over that time to win series MVP. Code:

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Vittorio Patino (Chiba Lotte Marines) - 30yo / USA - *** CY YOUNG Awards: 4 - Season Stats: 31 g - 31 gs - 20-7 rec - 0 sv - 2.02 era - 253.2 ip - 44 bb - 270 k - 1.01 whip - Career Stats: 124 g - 124 gs - 83-24 rec - 0 sv - 2.07 era - 1026.0 ip - 162 bb - 1115 k - 1.00 whip (int/4 yrs) 227 g - 227 gs - 144-52 rec - 0 sv - 2.64 era - 1825.2 ip - 394 bb - 1755 k - 1.11 whip (career/7 yrs) - Overview: New team/same result, Patino wins the Cy Young, his 4th straight award in his 4th year in the ***. It really is scary what he has done in his career, all with just turning 30 years old. Between the MLB & NOB, he has won 20+ games in 6 of his 7 seasons, has a career winning % over 73%, becomes the only ever 4-time Cy Young winner in any league, and is the best pitcher of all-time. With 5-6-7 quality seasons left in him, Patino has a legit shot at 300 and looks to be a lock already for the HOF. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - SP Ralph "Lefty" Caldwell (Nippon Fighters) - 22yo / USA - *** ROY Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 25 g - 25 gs - 11-8 rec - 0 sv - 2.63 era - 147.1 ip - 29 bb - 125 k - 1.13 whip - Career Stats: 25 g - 25 gs - 11-8 rec - 0 sv - 2.63 era - 147.1 ip - 29 bb - 125 k - 1.13 whip (int/1 yr) 25 g - 25 gs - 11-8 rec - 0 sv - 2.63 era - 147.1 ip - 29 bb - 125 k - 1.13 whip (career/1 yr) - Overview: Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 3rd rd in 1903, Caldwell was immediately traded to Nippon and spent the 1st 2 years of his career on their reserve roster. He made their active roster this season as their #2 pitcher and Lefty made sure his active status is a permanent one. Leading all *** rookies in ERA, Whip, Opp Avg & Vorp and finishing 3rd in wins, Caldwell had a terrific rookie season and looks to be well on his way to a fantastic career, still at the young age of 22. His 5 consecutive MVP awards came to an end this season at the age of 39. At the mid-season point, thought was that teammate Yeijiro Aoki would be the next in line to take MVP honors but instead it was another teammate, Kawaii, walking away with the award. You could make an argument for either, but Takamasa did have a better all around season. Leading all of the *** in OPS & Vorp and ranking in the top 5 in the CL in Avg, HR & RBI, Kawaii edged out his 2 teammates to win. His 1st 3 seasons in Japan were nothing more than a struggle for Waddell. His last 3 include 2 Cy Young awards in a row and 3 CL ERA titles. Fully emersed now as one of the league's best, Waddell led Yokohama to their 1st *** Championship while leading the league in ERA, Whip, Opp Avg & Vorp, tied for the league lead in wins and finished 2nd in K's. He played 1 game as a defensive replacement for Hanshin last year, but this season was his 1st time seeing real action. He blew away all other Japan league rookie hitters in virtually every category, leading in Avg, OPS, Hits, RBI & Vorp and looks like the starting LF for Hanshin for years to come. The Yankees made it a 2nd straight trip to the post-season, winning their 2nd AL East pennant in team history and 3rd trip to the post-season overall. Tampa Bay meanwhile cruised to the AL Wildcard berth, and also will be making their 3rd trip to the playoffs in team history. Chicago ran away in the Central for a 2nd straight pennant while posting the best record in the majors. And out west, the Angels did the same, giving them 3 pennants in team history while making their 4th trip to the post-season. Code:

The initial 1900 MLB Champion Atlanta Braves will be making their 5th trip to the playoffs in 7 seasons, making it 4 division titles. Cincy also has had alot of success in their first 7 seasons, with this year being their 3rd pennant and 4th trip to the post-season. Out West, defending World Series Champs San Diego and Arizona finished tied for the division lead, but both teams knew that they would be in the playoffs. The Pads won the playoff game giving them their 2nd consecutive West pennant and Arizona made their 4th post-season as the NL Wildcard team. 1906 PLAYOFFS WILDCARD: Both of the AL series needed 4 games to be decided. The Angels knocked out the Yanks while the White Sox eliminated the D-Rays setting up a dream ALCS. The 2 best teams in baseball, with a combined 215 wins, will be meeting with a trip to the Wrold Series at stake in the AL. The NL series needed 1 more game as both went the distance of 5 games. Atlanta eliminated the defending champs as SD fell behind 2-0 in the series and then fought back to send it to game 5 but came up just short. In the other series, Cincy outlasted Arizona in a back and forth series which neither team could win more than 1 in a row. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: The Central divisions will be well represented in the World Series this year as for the 1st time, 2 Central division teams will meet for the ultimate prize. Both winning 4 games to 1, Chicago eliminated the Angels while the Reds knocked out Atlanta. For the Pale Hose, star hitter Rick Brecknell won the MVP driving in 9 of the White Sox 21 runs in the series in which their offense dominated Anaheim. For Cincy, it was the other end of the spectrum as they won with pitching, holding Atlanta to 8 runs in the 5 games with series MVP Donald McRandal winning both the games he started including a complete game shutout to kick off the series. WORLD SERIES: "SUPER IN CINCY" A year after having both the Cy Young & MVP winners lead them, with both players the front-runner in the races this year, the Reds won their 1st World Series title. In knocking off the White Sox 4 games to 1, the Reds got some revenge from losing in 7 in the 1901 series to Toronto. 3-time Cy Young winner, and probably the best pitcher in MLB history, CJ Earp won MVP honors pitching near perfect baseball. Starting games 1 and 5, Earp went 2-0 in the series, throwing 2 complete games and allowing 1 run total over the 18 inning while striking out 22 to 1 walk. Code:

Winning his 3rd straight, Cronshaw was again litered all over the AL & MLB leaderboards. He led the AL in OPS, HR & Vorp and was among the best in all the league also in Avg, RBI & Runs scored. CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Mark "Menance" Matthews (Baltimore Orioles) - 26yo / USA - MLB CY YOUNG Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 34 g - 34 gs - 23-9 rec - 0 sv - 2.47 era - 273.0 ip - 30 bb - 205 k - 1.04 whip - Career Stats: 229 g - 229 gs - 121-78 rec - 0 sv - 3.93 era - 1711.2 ip - 349 bb - 1186 k - 1.27 whip (majors/7 yrs) 229 g - 229 gs - 121-78 rec - 0 sv - 3.93 era - 1711.2 ip - 349 bb - 1186 k - 1.27 whip (career/7 yrs) - Overview: For the 1st 6 seasons of his career, Matthews pitched with the spotlight was shining on Baltimore teammate Lee MacHarold. With MacHarold's signing with the Phillies in the off-season, Menance has the spotlight directly on him and he responded in true fashion in his first year as the team's lone ace. Tied for AL best with 23 wins, Matthews led the league in ERA, Whip, K/BB ratio and Vorp and showed that he is every good as MacHarold is, winning a Cy Young award himself. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - C Nig Clarke (Los Angeles Angels) - 23yo / USA - MLB ROY Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 112 g - 414 ab - .389 avg - 2 hr - 91 rbi - 62 r - 10 sb - .952 ops - Career Stats: 112 g - 414 ab - .389 avg - 2 hr - 91 rbi - 62 r - 10 sb - .952 ops (majors/1 yr) 112 g - 414 ab - .389 avg - 2 hr - 91 rbi - 62 r - 10 sb - .952 ops (career/1 yr) - Overview: If not for a torn groin muscle that kept him out of action the final 6 weeks of the season, we might be talking about Clarke in another category. Coming up short in the required number of AB, he might have won the Batting title in his 1st season in the majors and definitely would have topped the 100 rbi mark. Even so, only playing about 3/4 of the season, Clarke still led all AL rookies in Avg, OPS, RBI & Vorp. Not bad for a player who fell to the 4th rd in the draft. GOLD GLOVE AWARDS: P - "Honest" John Eubank (Seattle Mariners) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 C - Teodor Abascal (Texas Rangers) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 4 1b - Mike Ransom (Los Angeles (A) Angels) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 2B - Rafael Ortiz (Seattle Mariners) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 / IRL GOLD GLOVES: 2 3B - Ken Watson (Kansas City Royals) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 SS - Pop Lloyd (Los Angeles (A) Angels) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 LF - Eduardo Pinochet (Detroit Tigers) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 CF - Mike DeBorthwick (Toronto Blue Jays) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 RF - Adan Segura (Baltimore Orioles) - MLB GOLD GLOVES: 1 NATIONAL LEAGUE MVP AWARD - 1b Mel "Cotton" von Lenski (Cincinnati Reds) - 24yo / USA - MLB MVP Awards: 2 - Season Stats: 158 g - 562 ab - .358 avg - 32 hr - 108 rbi - 129 r - 16 sb - 1.099 ops - Career Stats: 902 g - 3383 ab - .329 avg - 143 hr - 574 rbi - 670 r - 43 sb - .971 ops (majors/6 yrs) 1030 g - 3844 ab - .323 avg - 156 hr - 652 rbi - 739 r - 45 sb - .954 ops (career/7 yrs) - Overview: Becoming the 2nd ever 2-time MVP in the NL, von Lenski bettered his numbers from last year when he won his 1st. Still not 25yo, he has emerged as one of the true greats in baseball and this will probably be the 2nd of many MVP awards. Leading all the majors in OPS, HR & Vorp, he was also tops in the NL in runs scored while finishing 4th in Avg & 6th in RBI. CY YOUNG AWARD - SP CJ "Madman" Earp (Cincinnati Reds) - 28yo / USA - MLB CY YOUNG Awards: 4 - Season Stats: 35 g - 35 gs - 22-8 rec - 0 sv - 2.00 era - 270.0 ip - 16 bb - 264 k - 0.81 whip - Career Stats: 177 g - 177 gs - 109-37 rec - 0 sv - 2.12 era - 1353.1 ip - 103 bb - 1355 k - 0.92 whip (majors/7 yrs) 177 g - 177 gs - 109-37 rec - 0 sv - 2.12 era - 1353.1 ip - 103 bb - 1355 k - 0.92 whip (career/7 yrs) - Overview: 3 consecutive/4 overall Cy Youngs, it's amazing to think that his career was nearly cut short after the 1902 & 1903 seasons. He continues to show the injuries are a thing of the past and he is the most dominant pitcher in the MLB. Again leading all the majors in ERA, Opp Avg, Whip & Vorp, Earp simply is untouchable at times. He also was tops in the NL in wins and 2nd in strikeouts and for the 2nd year in a row, he combined with von Lenski to sweep the awards for Cincy. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - 1b Duncan Spencer (San Francisco Giants) - 24yo / Puerto Rico - MLB ROY Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 160 g - 606 ab - .299 avg - 12 hr - 90 rbi - 74 r - 0 sb - .807 ops - Career Stats: 160 g - 606 ab - .299 avg - 12 hr - 90 rbi - 74 r - 0 sb - .807 ops (majors/1 yr) 259 g - 983 ab - .313 avg - 37 hr - 151 rbi - 158 r - 0 sb - .887 ops (career/2 yrs) - Overview: From the IRL MVP to the MLB ROY, it's been a great 2 seasons in professional baseball for Spencer. The former 2nd rd pick has really made his mark early on and projects to having a long and successful career. He finished 2nd among NL rookies in Avg, HR & Runs while leading in OPS, RBI, Hits & Vorp. But they were mauled by the Leopards, getting swept 3-0 as finally, there is a new team on top of the mountain in Mexico. In 7 years in the league, he has never hit lower than .307 and this year he won his 3rd batting title with a near .400 avg. Green also led the league in OPS, runs & Vorp. CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Antonio Betarano (Mexicali Leopards) - 32yo / USA - MWL CY YOUNG Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 14 g - 14 gs - 8-4 rec - 0 sv - 1.64 era - 104.1 ip - 22 bb - 52 k - 0.86 whip - Career Stats: 14 g - 14 gs - 8-4 rec - 0 sv - 1.64 era - 104.1 ip - 22 bb - 52 k - 0.86 whip (winter/1 yr) 192 g - 142 gs - 43-73 rec - 0 sv - 5.40 era - 942.1 ip - 295 bb - 377 k - 1.54 whip (career/7 yrs) - Overview: After 6 seasons with Colorado in the MLB, Betarano had plenty of experience. As a starter for the Rockies for the first part of his career, he did not have much success going 30-64 as a starter. Demoted to long relief the past 2 seasons, Betarano still wanted to be a starter so decided to sign with Mexicali in the MWL. It looks like it was the right move for him, as in his 1st season he was named the league's top pitcher and won a championship. Leading the league in ERA, Whip & Opp Avg and finishing 2nd in Wins & Vorp, he was the ace on champion Mexicali and there is little doubt he has a spot in their rotation next year. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - C Joe Escutia (Mochis Wranglers) - 25yo / Cuba - MWL ROY Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 60 g - 178 ab - .326 avg - 7 hr - 25 rbi - 27 r - 0 sb - .932 ops - Career Stats: 60 g - 178 ab - .326 avg - 7 hr - 25 rbi - 27 r - 0 sb - .932 ops (winter/1 yr) 111 g - 363 ab - .287 avg - 9 hr - 47 rbi - 37 r - 0 sb - .773 ops (career/2 yrs) - Overview: A former 1st rd pick by Nippon in the *** in 1902, Escutia was dealt to the Mochis in the off-season. He was happy because that meant he would finally get a chance to be an everyday player. He took advantage in his 1st season by winning the ROY in the Mexican league. While not leading in any of the major categories, Joe was a solid all-around player that resulted in the best Vorp rating among rookies. At only 25, and with a fresh start, he figures to be a solid player for many years in the MWL. *** - 1907 Season Wrap-Up
1907 [league redacted] LEAGUE POST SEASON REPORT
(Report Date - 9/21/07) LEAGUE REPORT Code:
1907 FINAL STANDINGS Pacific League Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Fukuoka Daiei Hawks 81 65 .555 - 78-68 Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas 78 68 .534 3.0 79-67 Chiba Lotte Marines 77 69 .527 4.0 73-73 Nippon Fighters 72 74 .493 9.0 76-70 Orix Buffaloes 66 80 .452 15.0 68-78 Seibu Lions 64 82 .438 17.0 65-81 Fukuoka made it 2 straight Pacific League titles and look to avenge last year's *** Championship loss to Yokohama. The 1900 *** Champs again held off a late rally by 3-time champion Ninjas, but proved again to be slightly better just like last year. This gives the Daiei Hawks their 3rd trip to the championship series in their history. Code:
1907 FINAL STANDINGS Central League Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Chunichi Dragon 83 63 .568 - 85-61 Hiroshima Toyo Carp 82 64 .562 1.0 79-67 Yomiuri Giants 72 74 .493 11.0 68-78 Yokohama Bay Stars 69 77 .473 14.0 67-79 Yakult Swallows 67 79 .459 16.0 69-77 Hanshin Tiger 65 81 .445 18.0 68-78 Coming down to the last game of the season, Hiroshima defeated Yakult in the afternoon and needed Hanshin to knock off Chunichi in a night game to force a 1 game playoff, but it was not to be. The Dragon won the game 6-1 and earned their 2nd Central League pennant in the process. With Chunichi's victory, we will have a repeat of the first *** Championship in 1900, where Fukuoka knocked off Chunichi in 7 games, still considered by many to be the best Japanese championship series ever. 1907 PLAYOFFS NIPPON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: "FUKUOKA 2-0 AGAINST CHUNICHI" In 1900, the series went the distance and was hard fought the entire way. This year, things we a little different as the Daiei Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 series lead, eventually beating the Dragon 4-1. The first ever champs of Japan won their second title with the series victory and get some revenge from last year's loss in the series. 3-time MVP Dave Vodden won series MVP, going 6 for 16 in the 5 games including 2 hr, 7 rbi & 4 runs scored. Signing with Chiba Lotte in the off-season, he became their main offensive star and was rewarded with his 1st MVP trophy. The 1st ever rookie draft pick, going #1 in the 1900 amateur draft, Aoki lived up to the billing. He led all of Japan in HR and was tops in the PL in OPS, Runs scored & Vorp while finishing 2nd in RBI. CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Hideaki Shibasawa (Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas) - 26yo / Japan - *** CY YOUNG Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 32 g - 32 gs - 18-9 rec - 0 sv - 2.71 era - 252.0 ip - 54 bb - 278 k - 1.07 whip - Career Stats: 169 g - 130 gs - 72-42 rec - 3 sv - 3.26 era - 1060.1 ip - 286 bb - 886 k - 1.19 whip (int/5 yrs) 169 g - 130 gs - 72-42 rec - 3 sv - 3.26 era - 1060.1 ip - 286 bb - 886 k - 1.19 whip (career/5 yrs) - Overview: The man who took over as the ace for Tohoku stopped the reign of Vittorio Patino, the former ace of Tohoku, ending his Cy Young winning seasons after 4 straight. Like Aoki, Shibasawa lived up to the hype surrounding him as he went #2, behind Aoki, in the initial 1900 rookie draft. While leading the league in Vorp, Shibasawa finished 3rd in ERA & 2nd in wins. He also led the league in strikeouts and finished in the top 3 in Whip & Opp Avg. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - 3b Sumiteru Shirane (Chiba Lotte Marines) - 23yo / Japan - *** ROY Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 146 g - 589 ab - .265 avg - 9 hr - 67 rbi - 83 r - 4 sb - .724 ops - Career Stats: 146 g - 589 ab - .265 avg - 9 hr - 67 rbi - 83 r - 4 sb - .724 ops (int/1 yr) 146 g - 589 ab - .265 avg - 9 hr - 67 rbi - 83 r - 4 sb - .724 ops (career/1 yr) - Overview: The 12th overall pick in the 1902, Shirane had a solid 1st season on Chiba Lotte's active roster. Leading all *** rookies in runs scored, and finishing tops in the PL in RBI while 2nd in Vorp, Shirane outshined some higher drafted players and looks to be a rising star in Japan. He spent most of his 1st 2 seasons on the bench before becoming a starter in 1905. Since then, he has gotten progressively better and this year was the top hitter in the league. Winning the batting title with a .365 avg, Hashimoto was also tops in the league in Hits, OPS & Runs Scored and finished 2nd in Vorp in the Central League. CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Toshikuni Hanari (Hanshin Tiger) - 28yo / Japan - *** CY YOUNG Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 32 g - 32 gs - 18-10 rec - 0 sv - 2.43 era - 247.2 ip - 75 bb - 235 k - 1.09 whip - Career Stats: 125 g - 125 gs - 46-56 rec - 0 sv - 3.46 era - 929.1 ip - 301 bb - 702 k - 1.23 whip (int/5 yrs) 125 g - 125 gs - 46-56 rec - 0 sv - 3.46 era - 929.1 ip - 301 bb - 702 k - 1.23 whip (career/5 yrs) - Overview: Making it a clean 4 for 4 sweep, Hanari was the 4th 1900 rookie draft pick to win a major award this year. As the 1st pick in the 2nd rd, Hanari was not expected to be this good, as evidenced by his career record 28-46 entering this season. But Toshikuni put it all together this season winning 18 of Hanshin's 65 total wins this season. Leading the Central in ERA, Wins, Strikeouts, Whip, Opp Avg & Vorp, Hanari totally dominated the league this season. In the Washington League, there was a tie in the East & 3-way tie for the wildcard resulting in many playoff games. First, the Central & West are the easy ones. Jupiter kept up their winning way, walking away with their 3rd consecutive Central division pennant. Out West, Brooklyn also won their 3rd division title, their first since 1904. Now for the difficult parts. Orem & Missoula tied for the East title and Boise was added in the mix, also tied for the wildcard. In the end, the 2 East teams prevailed after all the playoff games were finished with Orem finally winning their first division title after 3 wildcard berths previously & the defending champs Missoula got in as the wildcard team, their 2nd straight playoff trip and 3rd in 4 years. Hudson Valley walked away with their 4th East division pennant in the last 5 years and out West Lakewood won their 2nd pennant, the first since 1900. Then there was the Central, which was the tightest division in the league. Hagerstown won a tough fight that went to the end of the season, and will be making their 3rd post-season appearance and 2nd division title. The wildcard came down to a tie between Mahoning Valley & Asheville. By virtue of winning the playoff game, Asheville won the trip to the playoffs, and extended their record streak to 7 straight playoff appearances. 1907 PLAYOFFS WILDCARD: Defending IRL Champions Missoula was the only team able to sweep in the 1st series of the playoffs, knocking out Jupiter, the team with the best record in the league 2-0. The other WL series went to 3 games, with Brooklyn coming back from a 1-0 series deficit to knock out Orem. Both the LL series went to 3 games and both series were back and forth battles. Each team won the 1st, lost the 2nd then won the 3rd and Hagerstown & Hudson Valley prevailed over Lakewood & Asheville respectively. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: Following the wildcard round lead, both League Championship series were thrillers that went the distance. Brooklyn again fell down 1-0 and 2-1 in their series vs. Missoula, but they were able to pull out the final 2 games of the series to earn the trip to the IRL World Series. In the process, the Cyclones will be making their 2nd trip to the IRL Championship series, losing in 1904. Simon Nicholls led the way as series MVP, hitting 9 for 23 in the series while scoring 6 runs and stealing 2 bases. The WLCS also went the full 5 games with 1905 IRL champs Hudson Valley knocking out 1904 IRL Champs Hagerstown 3-2. The Renegades jumped out to a 2-0 series lead and after the Suns won the next 2, series MVP Marc Weaver sealed the deal, pitching a CG 1-run/3-hitter. He won both the 1st & 5th games in the series and allowed only 3 runs in his 15.2 innings of work. ROOKIE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: "BROOKLYN IS THE BEST" Another series that went the distance, making this the most exciting post-season in IRL history, the Brooklyn Cyclones continued flirting with fire, and coming out on top. As in both other series, the Cyclones fell behind 2-0, but scratched and clawed back winning 3 of the next 4 to set up an exciting Game 7. The decisive game was anti-climatic thanks in large part to series MVP Jack Maxwell. Maxwell hit 2 longballs in the game 7 while driving in 4 for Brooklyn who won 7-2. He finished the series with 3 homers and 9 rbi. Code:

Already spending time with the Yankees and their minor league team Aberdeen and Detroit and their minor league team Brooklyn, he has been around. As his previous career stats will indicate, he is not really a MLB projected player, but this year he had a career season, topping his previous highs in Avg, HR, RBI, Runs and SB. While not leading the league in any category other than Vorp, he was in the top 7 in Avg, HR, RBI & SB and had a very solid all around season for the champs. With 5 SPs tying for league lead with 13 wins, the secondary categories came more into play this year, and that is where Rucker excelled. With the 3rd best ERA and highest Vorp in the league, Nap was the best in the 5-way race for the Cy Young. He also led the league in shutouts and was 2nd in IP. Ranking 5th in Vorp, 2nd in RBI & 2nd in Runs, he was hardly a runaway choice. The biggest issue seems to be that all the better players are now in the majors, where as Rogers spent the entire season in the IRL. A 6 year vet who also has some considerable time in the majors, he seems to be a tweener, minor league star/major league bench player, and would probably be better served if he looked at the Japanese or Mexican leagues. The 5th rd pick by Pittsburgh was not expected to do this well in his 1st season, but excelled for Lakewood and with a solid ratings bump, now projects to a decent back of the rotation starter for the Pirates, although another season in the minors looks to be in the cards for next year. Boston ran away in the East, making it 3 playoff berths in the past 4 years and 3 division titles in their history as they finished with the top record in baseball. Meanwhile in the Central, the defending ALCS champs the White Sox made it a 3rd consecutive Central pennant, completely turning around their early history lack of success. 2 teams made the playoffs from the West. The Angels won their 2nd consecutive West division title, and have now made the playoffs 5 times in their 8 year history. Finally, Seattle walked away with the wildcard berth, holding off a number of teams who finished a distant 6 games behind. The M's will be making their 2nd ever trip to the post-season, the 1st since winning the West pennant in 1903. Code:

With 1 race needing an extra game, and 2 others coming down to the final game of the season, everything but the East was up for grabs until the very end. In the East, the Mets were the only team able to take it easy down the stretch with a comfortable lead. Winning their 3rd pennant in their history, and 4th post-season berth, NY will be returning to the playoffs for the first time since 1903 this year. The other 3 playoffs spots were tension filled for the teams involved. The regular season ended with the defending World Series champs, the Reds, and the Pirates deadlocked. With both teams knowing only 1 of them would make the playoffs and the loser would go home, Cincinatti sent 4-time Cy Young winner CJ Earp to the hill and he shut down Pittsburgh, clinching a 2nd straight & 4th overall pennant for the Reds. The final 2 spots would be decided between 2 games that ended the year. San Diego and San Francisco squared off while Atlanta met Florida. The Braves 4-2 win clinched the wildcard berth and a 6th playoff trip in 8 years for them. That meant that the final game of the 162 season between SF & SD would end in 1 team winning the pennant, the other going home. With a championship in 1905 and 2 straight West titles, the Padres' experience (and SP Frank Owen) prevailed to give them a 3rd consecutive pennant and send the Giants home again, never making the post-season. 1907 PLAYOFFS WILDCARD: All but 1 of the series were decided in 4 games with the favorites, for the most part, not coming thru. In the AL, the lone higher seeded team to advance was the Boston Red Sox, who were able to knock off Seattle in 4, really overmatching them in the series. The other AL matchup was a rematch of last year's ALCS and again the White Sox got the better of the Angels, as they ended in 4 games and moved on to their 3rd straight ALCS. The NL matchups saw San Diego beat the Braves in 4 games, losing the 1st game then winning the next 3 to move on. Finally, in the lone series that went the distance, the defending World Series champs prevailed over the heavily favorite Mets. Cincy used their outstanding pitching to move on, shutting out NY twice and holding them to 1 run scored in the 3 games the Reds won. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: With both the White Sox and Cincinnati still alive in the playoffs, there was a good chance that one, if not both, of the team that made the World Series would do it again. Boston and San Diego had different ideas though, and both were able to win their series, keeping alive the streak of no team reaching the World Series in back-to-back years in the MLB. Boston's offense exploited Chicago's pitching, knocking out the defending AL Champs in 6 games. The Reds beat up the Whites in the battle of the Sox, and Boston outslugged Chicago 35-12 in the series. Sherry Magee proved to be the shining star for the Red Sox, driving in a remarkable 10 of their 35 runs, while hitting a ridiculous .600 (15 for 25) in the series. The NLCS wasn't as close as San Diego pounced on Cincy early in the series, jumping out to a 3-0 lead, eventually winning in 5. Where Boston did it with the bats, the Pads did it with their arms, pitching beautifully in the series. Frank Owen pitched a CG shutout in game 2, Barney Pelty thru a 3 hit/1-run gem in game 3, but Porfiro Moncivaiz was named series MVP. Starting games 1 & 5, the former Cy Young winner went 2-0 and allowed 2 er in his 15 innings of work while striking out 19 Reds in that span, more than 1 per inning. WORLD SERIES: "NO CURSE IN BEANTOWN" Since losing in the 1900 World Series to Atlanta, the 1st in league history, some fans in Boston started some whispers of a curse. All 4 other teams in the AL East had won a World Series ring in their trips to the championship and Boston was the lone loser in the division. All that changed in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 9th of the final game of the series. A back and forth series that went the distance would be decided at Fenway Park. Boston chose ace Jack Bracken as their starter and SD had fellow ace Frank Owen on the hill. Both pitchers weaved their magic and heading to the 9th, the score was deadlocked 1-1 with both starters removed. The Red Sox pen held San Diego scoreless in the top of the 9th setting up the most dramatic finish in World Series history. With 1 out, cleanup hitter Sherry Magee drew a walk from San Diego RP Chief Bender. Enter #5 hitter Aidan Sass, and Padre closer Wally Forman. Forman groved a pitch with Sass turned on and smashed deep over the Green Monster in left. It was gone as soon as he hit it and teammates and fans alike poured onto the field as Magee and Sass rounded the bases and touched home to kick off a celebration that is still going strong in the state of Massachussets. Leifield didn't lead the AL in any category, but rather was very effective in every sence. The 3rd best ERA, wins & Vorp as well as a top 7 finish in Whip & Strikeouts and Lefty was very solid everywhere. The 14th overall pick in the 1905 draft had a decent rookie season last year, but really came into his own this season and looks to be on his way to a very long and promising career. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - 1b Claude Rossman (Baltimore Orioles) - 26yo / USA - MLB ROY Awards: 1 - Season Stats: 159 g - 647 ab - .314 avg - 3 hr - 119 rbi - 94 r - 29 sb - .803 ops - Career Stats: 182 g - 745 ab - .309 avg - 3 hr - 130 rbi - 108 r - 31 sb - .792 ops (majors/2 yrs) 266 g - 1059 ab - .308 avg - 7 hr - 161 rbi - 155 r - 50 sb - .798 ops (career/2 yrs) - Overview: The former 2nd rd pick had a huge impact for the Orioles in his 1st full season in the majors as their cleanup hitter. Driving in a rookie record 119 rbi, Rossman ranked 6th overall in all of baseball. He led all MLB rookies in Avg, Hits & RBI and despite not possessing much power, looks to be a major run producer for Baltimore. At 25yo, Cotton is really emerging as the league's premier all-around hitter in baseball. He led all of the majors in OPS, Vorp & walks and led the NL in HR while ranking in the top 4 in both RBI & Runs, all while hitting well over .300 and stealing 10+. He has proved he has the avg, power, eye & speed to be the best in baseball and Pittsburgh might have earned themself a future World Series championship by signing him away from Cincy. Also, for the 2nd time in MLB history, a rookie has won both the ROY & Cy Young, duplicating Ed Walsh's 1904 feat with Texas. Berger was the 7th pick in the draft and immediately was named the Pirates' top starter. Not dissapointing, he led all the majors with 23 wins. The rest of his numbers was above avg, but nothing spectacular, as he finished with the 5th best Vorp in the NL. But 5 more wins than any other pitcher in the league sealed both the Cy Young & ROY awards for Berger. MWL - 1907 Season Wrap-Up
1907 MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE POST SEASON REPORT
(Report Date - 1/9/08) LEAGUE REPORT Code:
1907 FINAL STANDINGS Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec Mexicali Leopards 44 24 .647 - 45-23 Hermosillo Victorians 37 31 .544 7.0 39-29 Mochis Wranglers 36 32 .529 8.0 34-34 Guasave Hippies 34 34 .500 10.0 34-34 Mazatlan Black Hawks 33 35 .485 11.0 34-34 Culiacan Moths 32 36 .471 12.0 29-39 Navojoa Chameleons 29 39 .426 15.0 32-36 Obregon Orangemen 27 41 .397 17.0 27-41 The only pennant race in Mexico was the race for 2nd place. Defending champion Mexicali clinched the regular season pennant easily and will get a chance to defend their title and will be making their 3rd playoff appearance. Their opponent came down to either Hermosillo or Mochis. By virtue of the Victorians beating the Moths in their final regular season game, they edged out the Wranglers, who also won to close out the season, beating Obregon. Hemosillo is yet to win a championship, but will be playing in their 3rd MWL Championship. 1907 PLAYOFFS MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: "ANOTHER DYNASTY IN THE MAKING?" Mazatlan won the MWL title from 1902 to 1905, a 4 year run and the only dynasty in the history of the league. That might be coming to an end though as Mexicali claimed their 2nd straight title, sweeping Hermosillo 3-0 in the MWL Championship series. Les McMurtry was named series MVP, going 5 for 11 in the series including 4 rbi and 2 runs scored. The Leopards will be the favorites heading into next season, and if they can win a 3rd straight title, we will be in the midst of our 2nd consecutive Mexican League dynasty. Code:

Teammate Johnny Green had a higher avg, hits, Vorp & runs scored, leading the league in all 4 of those categories, and was predicted as the winner. But the rookie Dorr (who also won the ROY) was named MVP in a shocker. He did have a solid all-around season, ranking in the top 5 in avg, OPS, HR, RBI & Vorp, but still figured to finish behind Green. After 5 previous struggling seasons in the IRL, Dorr found his niche and made his mark in Mexico. With the 6th best ERA, 4th best Vorp & 5th best Whip, Holmquist had a monster 1st season. The former 4th rd pick in the 1906 draft by the SF Giants, he was released and signed by Hermosillo to thrive in the MWL.
