Well lucky for you it's ups right now. I remember having a conversation with someone in 2001 about how the Angels sucked and I could care less about them. Then one year later they snatch the Wild Card from Seattle and win the WS. Now they won't go away.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...if we didnt have the worst GM in baseball we would have owned this division. I give credit to BB for making the most with the least and keeping the A's competitive. Maybe Arte Moreno should offer him a large contract.

Ha - well Billy wouldn't go to Boston a few years ago and he ended up getting a new deal with the A's that gives him part ownership. So I think he's staying.

Considering how awesomly the Angels have sucked so far; and that they are only 3 games out; maybe we can get our 3 straight title. If only some of our young hitters can come through.

In football I have a silver and black heart though.

Psst - half the A's roster has missed time due to injury and there's not one offensive player who is playing up to his ability. It's going to take another half of that for the Angels to catch up and surpass.

I'm more worried about the Rangers.

I am worried about another half of that. I think we've overrated some of our players, namely Crosby, Johnson, Blanton, and Kotsay. Bradley's value is still up in the air because he can't seem to stay off the DL. At least Big Frank is doing his part. But at this point, this team doesn't look like much.

LOL I just saw this posted on AthleticsNation and had to share. At least I'm not this bad... yet:

Quote:
Crosby should just get the **** out of town with his ****-swaggering around the field like he's a ten-time All-Star. You really wonder about his approach at the plate, is it meant to hit the baseball or turn on the cute girls in the first row. Every swing you can feel the ****ing breeze in Vancouver, where this team is gonna be moving any year now if this is symptomatic of the product they are putting on the field. He has the maturity of a 9th grade high school kid and if he were traded for prospects this week I wouldn't shed a god****ed tear. Sorry, BCG, but a spade is a spade right now.

The only idiot that swings more pathetically than that conceited piece of **** is Swisher, who cuts on every pitch like he's trying to hit ten Jim Thome HRs per at-bat, only with roughly 1/1000000th of the contact. Again, this is what happens when you give not-awfully-bright 23 year olds millions of dollars, they begin to look even more foolish than nature intended. From the look on his face you can see that he just doesn't get the idea that you have to take what the pitcher gives you and go the other way once a ****ing week if you wanna succeed at this level.

Another one, just like Crosby, they are swinging so hard and corkscrewing themselves into the ground like they are because they are trying to 1)impress the girls and 2)get their sorry asses on Sportscenter highlights, as if the Sportscenter douchebags could give a **** that this pathetic city even has a team.

I want players that will do what it takes to win baseball games on a consistent basis, not post-adolescent showboats who haven't earned the right to strut around like the **** of the mother****ing walk all day and who act like they are still trying to be Big Man On the High School Campus like they did when they were 16 and a big fish in a tiny pond. You watch Vlad, you watch Garrett Anderson, you watch Big Frank, you watch Albert Pujols, those guys (who've been mashing like Gods for years and years) don't portray a fraction of the ridiculous swagger that Crosby and Swisher, barely out of diapers in comparative baseball terms, like to feature.

If these clowns are gonna get five hits a week as a team Mr. Wolff should just close the 2nd deck too, becuase no one not on PCP would pay their hard-earned dollars to watch this dreadful, worst-most-clueless-offense-of-all-time ****.

Houston lands one of the guys I think could have helped Oakland, Aubrey Huff.

All it took was a couple minor leaguers and they got Huff AND 1.6M!

I would have dealt a couple AA'ers for him.

I think you're right on Crosby and Johnson, but I don't think that hurts much. Blanton has been really unlucky this year (or maybe he was really lucky last year). His HR/9, K/9, and BB/9 stats are about the same, but he gives up almost 3 more hits per game.

I think Kotsay is more banged up than anybody knows. He could just be on a steady career decline, in which case it would be a good idea for Beane to try to move him this offseason before he gets any worse.

Also - is there a fan base more angry with a first-place team than this one? As someone who isn't a long-time A's fan (and also someone who doesn't know a lot of A's fans), this is a little bit funny to me. I've got Cubs fans around town thinking the playoffs are a manager firing away and A's fans thinking the sky has fallen and crushed the green and gold.

We're just not a very good first place team. We have not only the worst record of any division leader in a pretty weak division, but we have the worst record of ANY team currently qualifying for the playoffs. And we're only 28-31 when we're not beating up on our fellow chumps in the West. I'm pissed because we should be better than this by now. I just don't see this team advancing through the playoffs, and I really can't bear to see this team get hot like usual only to choke it up in the playoffs again.

Pretty much echoes how I feel. We choked when we had much better teams (2001-2002 mainly) and it sucks that it looks like that was as close as we'll ever get to having a championship team, at least for many, many years. And spare me the "other teams have it worse" rant, because this is the only team I care about.

Yep, all this while dealing with more than half the team being injured. People are getting healthy. And Beane still hasn't made a deal yet.

I'm not worried about making the playoffs, and once there all bets are off anyway.

dola,

What I meant by that is: Macha actually got a lineup right for once.

Kendall hits lefties well, and leadoff = not many GIDP chances.
Kielty - .934 OPS vs lefties
Kotsay/Crosby moved down till they stop making auto-outs
Chavez sitting to rest his arms.

I mean.. Wow... good job for once, Macha.

trola,

I don't think it matters. Loaiza is going to be hard pressed to keep Boston from scoring in double digits.

In the first inning.

It's also a lefty starter for Boston, and Chavez isn't exactly killing lefties this year.

Edit: Frank Thomas should be the #3 hitter on this team. Unless his lack of speed somehow plays a factor here, there's just no excuse for it.

dola,

Watching this game on ESPN2 is absolutely intolerable. I'd actually rather hear the Red Sox announcers.

I'm just glad to have regular TV quality when I can get it.
