LOL..yeah. Sadly,we can only wonder just how different the heavyweight scene would look today had Ike stayed out of trouble. Speaking of Ike,he and Shavers wouldnt be a bad duo to have would it? Mmmmm....LOL. Peace bro.

And consider it this way - he's got a lot of great fights in him evidently, because he didn't use many of them up last season. |

Had to do a little switching around.
Good News!!!!!!!! Shane got in touch with me today and is still in the league. I gave his team to Jersey-Jim originally. So now, I'm giving Jersey-Jim ownership of the Punching Bags team instead of atomzero. atomzero has been a no-show ever since joining. Final answer...... Shane has his Kangaroos back and now Jersey-Jim is the new owner of the Punching Bags. |

Also posted in the draft thread
OK............THE DRAFT IS ON HOLD FOR 30 HOURS
(The draft is suspended until 4 pm CST on November 6) I've spent 10 hours over the last three days and two evenings and have accomplished really nothing on this draft. This is a waste of too much of my personal time. We need a change within the next 30 hours. Three options posted below. 1) First, if someone wants to step up and take over the commissioner duties of this league, respond to this post here within the next 30 hours and I'll gladly step down. 2) If nobody wants the commish duties, I'm going to change the way we are drafting. The change will be a dictatorship and not open for discussion. I can no longer waste my personal time for nothing. I enjoy running the league but not enough to give up my personal time. 3) All someone has to state is they want me to step down as commish and it will be a done deal and I'll let someone else worry about the league and how to finish the draft. I will not send out any PM's concerning this post. For the owners that are really interested in this league, they will see it here. |

Season 1 Year End Bink Gazette
BINK GAZETTE November 7, 2008
Year in Review for Season 1 As the calendar year comes to an end, it has been a momentous year. The New York Yankees did not make the playoffs , the Philadelphia Phillies ended decades of futility, we elected a new president, there is now a unified heavyweight boxing champion – not, and the first year of the prestigious UTBA II Boxing League has been completed. The Baltimore Binks completed their inaugural season in the revamped league and I’d like to say they covered themselves in glory. Alas, at times they covered themselves in gory, as it was a season with mixed reviews. Neophyte team owner Mikehoudini assembled a diverse set of fighters and put them in the hands of a Baltimore institution, Mack Lewis, who did his best to bring the lads along. Team captain Hasim “the Rock” Rahman said, before the season started, “the Binks have an international flair, as we recruited far and wide to achieve the desired makeup of this squad. We recruited in Wales, the United Kingdom, Germany, Puerto Rico and Thailand, and in the states from Connecticut to Hawaii. This team is comprised of scrappers and just might surprise a few of the more established teams in this league.” Well, the surprises were held to a minimum, as the Binks went just 2-8, finishing in last place in the vaunted Cribb Division. They were out-pointed, 552-446.5, but a large portion of that differential (90 points) occurred in two blowout losses to teams outside the conference. There were high points and low points in the season, and the Binks, buoyed by a loyal fan base, are near ready for Season 2!High points included a win in Week 3 over Left Jab Inc., a second meeting thumping of division rivals St. Louis Sluggers in Week 8, a narrow unofficial loss in Week 9 to the powerful Diggstown Ringers, which was washed out due to a mechanical failure, and, in hindsight, a very close 49-47.5 opening day loss to the eventual league champions, the mighty Bonner Springs Bald Beavers! ![]() The low points were in Weeks 6 and 7, when the Binks were clobbered by Brooks Battlers and then decimated by the Hebron Haymakers. The lighter four weight classes did a great imitation of a dog rolling over and playing dead, going 4-28 in these matches! Rumor has it that the Binks were below their normal capability because of a bout of food poisoning brought on by a bad bunch of crabs. It proved a pyrrhic victory for the Haymakers, as they apparently hurt their fists battering our Binkies, and fell in the league championship to the Bald Beavers. Other highlights were the cheerleading and other moral and immoral support provided by Amina Sade and her friends, which helped pack the Civic Center and inspired the Binks, a refreshing visit to Toronto to train with the Tornados, which preceded the Week 8 renaissance, the antics of the team mascot, a snaggle-toothed feline that intimidated judges and bit opposing fighters, and the post-season championship won by Welterweight Cocoa Kid! Captain Rahman had a good season anchoring the heavyweight division. He went 14-5-1 with 12 stoppages, and proved to be more than an inspirational leader, as he led by example! The other heavies, Keith McKnight and his mid-season replacement, Billy Daniels, had disappointing years, both going 2-8. Greater production is need from this second heavyweight spot if the Binks are to contend next season. The Batman and Robin pair of light heavyweights, Melio Bettina and Oakland Billy Smith, put together an outstanding season! Melio, the savvy slugger from Bridgeport, CT, went 11-9 with 9 stoppages, 8 by KO. Oakland Billy started the season slowly, then came on like gangbusters, winning his last 10 fights, finishing with a 13-5-2 mark, 6 coming on stoppages! No less a personage than Skip Bailey indicated that Smith was a most pleasant surprise with his second half showing! Henry Hank and Max Resch were more of a Jekyll and Hyde duo. Hard Luck Henry had a less than stellar 8-9-3 year, with only 3 stoppages. Much was expected of him, but the decisions almost always seemed to go against him. Perhaps the team mascot will need to get closer to the judges when Hank fights and bare his fangs! Max proved to be the team overachiever, going 8-11-1 with 5 stoppages! He went into almost every fight as an underdog, and proved the ultimate scrapper! If Hank can start living up to his potential, this will be a formidable twosome! The Cocoa Kid did it all, earning MVB honors. He went 16-3-1, and was the most consistent performer on the team. Though not a KO artist, he led the Binkies with 49 points. The Kid ended on a 12-0-1 tear, and boxed beautifully in winning the post-season welterweight tournament! Tommy West alternated between being terrific and terrible, but showed good promise with his 6-14 record, including 5 stoppages. Buzzsaw Yamabe proved to be no wannabe! The plucky resident of Honolulu enjoyed the balmy (?) Baltimore climate, or at least the sushi at Cross Street Market, and was a crowd-pleasing 11-8-1 with 3 stoppages. He had heart, and was in every match! Bummy Davis, the slugging Brooklyn-ite, had a disastrous second half, and ended up 6-14 with 5 stoppages. It turns out that Bummy fought on despite an injury to his left arm, so his vaunted hook all but disappeared and his losses mounted. Mack indicated that Bummy has worked hard in the off season and should be ready for better things in the upcoming year! We hope so, as otherwise he’ll be living up to his name! Our top featherweight, Young Corbett II, had a tough year, going only 8-12, but he did have 7 stoppages. He was a major disappointment and could be on the trading block, though Mister Mack believes that he’ll mature into a good fighter. Jose Badillo, a doughty southpaw, fought above his head and went 6-13-1 with 4 stoppages. His partner could learn something about heart from him! The bantamweights were berry bad ! Horace “Boots” Monroe had an egg-sucking year. Highly-touted, he finished 5-15, winning the dubious team underachiever award. He can only get better, right? He should keep his bags packed, just in case. Young Danny O’Sullivan at times was awesome, but more often his inexperience showed and he was awful. Still, he finished 7-12-2 with 5 KOs, though he may have set a record for first round stoppages, from the loser’s side! More is needed from this pair. Horace could end up in a glue factory!Great things were expected from Uptown Jackie Brown, but the Manchester lad only went 7-13 with 4 stoppages. There are a few new fish and chips places now in B-more, and we’ll get him some English ales to help him out with any homesickness! Chokchai (Chocky) Chockvivat proved to be a crowd-pleasing flyweight with heavyweight fists. Chocky went 9-10-1, and had 6 KOs among his 9 stoppages. The fans loved his spunk and spirit, as he was as feisty as the team mascot, and the two often had friendly tussles! Opposing sportswriters had quite the time with his name! It truly was a learning year. The Binks lost relatively close matches to the Bald Beavers and Sluggers, twice each to Diggstown and Bears Unstable, so they were competitive and scrappy for 8 of their matches, crappy for the other two. The good news is that the Binks didn’t set a record for most straight losses. And we’ll have to see if they make any savvy moves come draft day. They do have a stable of sparring partners, such as George Chaplin, Red Burman, Larry Middleton and Vince Pettway, and there is this one comer, a possible phenom named Mel Turnbow, who came down from New Jersey one day and has stayed to work out. He was accompanied by a young dynamo named Danny Wofford, who has quick hands, particularly at the dinner table! Skip Bailey and this reporter chuckled at one boner pulled by Mikehoudini. Mack had asked him to get some Hebron-like talent during the off-season. Mike came back with the only remaining twin to the Hebron bus! I don’t think that is what Mack was hoping for! He was last seen sadly shaking his head and saying something about a sunny beach! Still, the loyal Bink fans remain and are looking forward to another season, be it of boxing or the lovely Ms. Sade! A picture of 2 of the fans is hopefully attached. Will the Binks improve at all with the draft, or fight better as they become more seasoned? As the draft has begun, and interest has been growing, we conclude the year in review with the Bink mantra. Bink fever, catch it! You’ll only wish you died! ![]()

I may be wrong about this, but considering the way my squad performed in
season one perhaps I should be called the Punching Bags.

I just looked at the latest rankings. My top HW, C.Sanders is now ranked 20th with a record of 19-6 (18). Ranked above him are guys that have records of 8-12, 10-16, 11-15...While I can live with that I have a hard time figuring out how Mike DeJohn 2-17-2 (2) is ranked above Sanders
. Edit: If the rankings were determined by performance points Sanders would be ranked 4th and DeJohn 45th. Last edited by Tommysixfingers; 11-08-2008 at 02:36 AM. |

The final for season one Top 20 rankings are now posted.
Also all of the rosters on pages 1 and 2 should be correct (cap/age status of fighters). After the first round of the draft is over, I'll add the drafted fighters to their respective rosters and change the cap totals. The 105 cap is still waived, I'm just putting the adjusted cap on the rosters for your info. |
