It would take a cut or DQ for any of these guys to beat Holyfield.

Jirov could do it. Remember I haven't been updating the database as I've been doing this, and he was rated an 11 to Evander's 12.

Doesn't matter, he'll get abused.

World Tournament - Cruiserweights - Round 2 - Part 1

Round 2 - Part 1:

Evander Holyfield 6-0-0 (6), United States vs Simon Bakinde 3-0-0 (1), Cameroon -
After a crisp but uneventful 1st round, Holyfield dropped Bakinde twice in the 2nd round before the referee decided Bakinde had had enough.

Vassily Jirov 0-0-0 (0), Kazakhstan 0-0-0 (0) vs Frantisek Kasanic 1-0-0 (1), Slovakia -
Jirov came out throwing bombs, landing uppercuts, crosses and viscious combinations with abandon while out landing Kasanik 48-6 before the referee halted the bout a bit early with 8 seonds left in round 1.

Juan Carlos Gomez 2-0-0 (2), Cuba vs Stefan Anghern 1-0-0 (1), Switzerland -
Anghern shocked everyone with a 3rd round knockdown of the heavily favored Gomez, but Gomez shook it off nicely and dominated most of the way before landing a brutal uppercut that put a nearly blinded (by swelling) Anghern down for the count early in the 13th round.

Carlos DeLeon 1-0-0 (1), Puerto Rico vs Turan Bagci 1-0-0 (1), Turkey -
Bagci fought the best fight of his life, surviving a 5th round knockdown to keep the fight close through the 10th round. DeLeon dominated from the 11th on however, scoring the KO in the 14th to move on in the tourney. DeLeon had a narrow 7-6 (x2) & 8-5 lead through the 13th round.

Tomasz Adamek 1-0-0 (1), Poland vs Jose Maria Flores 1-0-0 (0), Uruguay -
Adamek was patient, yet dominant throughout this bout, working well to the body of Flores then once he was worn down, landing an overhand right to floor him for the count of 10 in the 10th round.

Jean-Marc Mormeck 3-0-0 (3), France vs Daniel Rowsell 4-0-0 (3), Australia -
This was a mugging, with Mormeck using an intentional head butt to open a cut on the inside of the right brow of Rowsell in the 2nd round. Mormeck then targeted the eye repeatedly, reopening it every round, scoring a 4th round knockddown then widening the cut to the point that the fight was halted in the 5th. The crowd was incensed that Mormeck, the favorite would benefit from dirty tactics in this way!

Guillermo Jones 1-0-0 (1), Panama vs Henry Saenz 1-0-1 (1), Nicaragua -
After an intense slugfest in the 1st round that saw Saenz doing quite well, Jones dropped him in the 2nd, then 3 more times, the final one for the KO in the 6th round.

David Haye 4-0-1 (4), England vs Nuri Seferi 1-0-0 (1), Albania -
Haye used every inch of the ring early, but still scored seemingly at will, dropping Seferi in the 6th then pouring it on for the TKO.

World Tournament - Cruiserweights - Round 2 - Part 2

Round 2 - Part 2:

Vadim Tokarev 2-0-0 (2), Russia vs Jose Seys 2-0-0 (1), Belgium -
Tokarev came out fast, using the ring well and putting on an offensive clinic from a distance. Seys stormed back, and the fight was even on my card going into the 15th round. Both men came out looking for the KO, and while neither man was down, Tokarev landed 36 shots to only 11 for Seys to dominate the round. The judging, expected to be close didn't surprise as the judges had it 9-6, 8-7 and 9-6 for Tokarev.

Lubos Suda 1-0-0 (1), Czech Republic vs Andy Straughn 1-0-0 (1), Barbados -
A marvelous slugging exhibition by Suda saw Straughn down 5 times before being counted out in the 9th round.

Uriah Grant 0-0-0 (0), Jamaica vs Piet Crous 2-0-0 (2), South Africa -
Brutality reigned as both men battered one another, with Crous going down in the 5th then again in the 8th for the Grant KO win!

Alexander Alexeev 1-0-0 (1), Uzbekistan vs Enzo Maccarinelli 1-0-0 (1), Wales -
Maccarinelli opened strong, cutting Alexeev with a pin point jab in the 2nd round and targeting it the rest of the bout til it burst open in the 5th for the TKO.

Sebastian Rothmann 1-0-0 (1), Israel vs Ruediger May 4-0-0 (2), Germany -
A brilliant action bout from both men saw May the agressor, getting off first most of the bout, forcing Rothmann to counter. Rothman used his excellent counter attack to forge the lead only to have Ruediger come back strong in the latter rounds to earn the draw on my card. The judges had it 9-5 May, 7-7 even and 8-6 for the upset winner May!

Victor Emilio Ramirez 3-0-0 (2), Argentina vs Mohammed Benguesmia 2-0-0 (2), Algeria -
A furious pace set by these two as Ramirez tried using the entire ring, but Benguesmia forced the action, making this a real brawl! Ramirez started fast, taking the arly lead then Benguesmia surged to take a lead of his own through the 9th round. Benguesmia walked into an uppercut in the 10th that floored him, and while he regained his feet it was just a matter of time before Ramirez put him away for the KO with 16 seconds left in the round!

Johny Jensen 2-0-0 (0), Denmark vs Dale Brown 1-0-0 (1), Canada -
Brown dominated the first 5 rounds before Jensen threw caution to the wind, coming back strong only to fade in the final three rounds as Brown dropped him in the 13th, then landed an overhand right for the KO early in the 15th round.

David Izeqwire 3-0-0 (1), Nigeria vs Giacobbe Fragomeni 4-0-1 (0), Italy -
A good study in contrasts, Fragomeni's movement was problematic for Izeqwire early, but he came on strong in the later rounds, scoring 5 knockdowns in the final 4 rounds to earn the 9-6, 8-7 and 10-5 decision!

World Tournament - Cruiserweights - Round 3

Round 3:

Evander Holyfield 7-0-0 (7), United States vs Enzo Maccarinelli 2-0-0 (2), Wales -
Holyfield forced the action, but Maccarinelli countered and moved well, though he lost most of the rounds. The crowd was on it's feet from the 1st round on as the action was simply amazing, the 4th round both men landed punches with such ferocity that even I was on my feet screaming my approval! (23-16 Holyfield). Maccarinelli changed tactics, coming out for a desperation KO with both eyes swelling in the 8th and went down. He went down again in the 9th, this time for the count!

Vasilly Jirov 1-0-0 (1), Kazakhstan vs Ruediger May 5-0-0 (2), Germany -
Jirov's aggressivness paid off as he built a big lead, wearing May down. May was in the middle of a rally where he'd taken the 8th and 9th rounds when Jirov nailed him with a straight right hand that floored May for the count!

Juan Carlos Gomez 3-0-0 (3), Cuba vs Dale Brown 2-0-0 (2), Canada -
Gomez came out firing on all cylinders, working the body well then dancing away, scoring seemingly at will when the referee suddenly halted the bout for the Gomez TKO with 10 seconds in the round. It was clear that Brown, while hurt was fighting back, and he didn't seem foggy at all when the referee halted the bout.

Carlos DeLeon 2-0-0 (2), Puerto Rico vs David Izeqwire 4-0-0 (1), Nigeria -
Izeqwire fought hard, but a broken nose in the 3rd round and a 3rd round knockdown gave DeLeon momentum. DeLeon targetted the nose umercifully, starting the flow of blood again in the 6th, with it gushing to the point that the doctor had no choice but to order it stopped later in the round for the TKO.

Tomasz Adamek 2-0-0 (2), Poland vs Victor Emilio Ramirez 4-0-0 (3), Argentina -
A close bout that saw Adamek surge to the lead, only to have the underdog Ramirez surge with a pair of knockdowns, the final one in the 15th round to earn the hard fought 9-6, 7-7 and 9-6 majority decision.

Jean-Marc Mormeck 4-0-0 (4), France vs Uriah Grant 1-0-0 (1), Jamaica -
Grant controlled the pace, really taking it to the slight favorite Mormeck, wearing him down then scoring a knockdown in the 10th and another in the 11th before out of nowhere a crushing right hand from Mormeck tore open Grant's right eyelid ending the fight for the come from behind TKO by Mormeck! Grant was up 9-4, 9-4 and 10-3 through the 13th round and had things well in hand before the cut.

Guillermo Jones 2-0-0 (2), Panama vs Lubos Suda 2-0-0 (2), Czech Republic -
A good tough fight that saw both men down in the first 10 rounds as this one was dead even through that point. Jones finished strong down the stretch, scoring knockdowns in the 12th and 13th rounds to earn the 9-6 decision on all three cards.

David Haye 5-0-1 (5), England vs Vadim Tokarev 3-0-0 (2), Russia -
Haye was at his tactical best, dancing well and scoring seemingly at will, dropping Tokarev 3 times enroute to the 11-3, 13-2 and 10-5 decision.

World Tournament - Cruiserweights - Quarter-Finals

Quarter-Finals:

Evander Holyfield 8-0-0 (8), United States vs Victor Emilio Ramirez 5-0-0 (3), Argentina -
Holyfield and Ramirez waged a war as they both went full speed from the opening bell. Holyfield was winning the battle of attrition however as Ramirez suffered major swelling around the left eye. Holyfield took 7 of the first 8 rounds when in the 9th he landed a huge right hand that while staggering Ramirez, broke the right hand and ended the dreams of a gold medal for Holyfield in what has to be the biggest upset of the Cruiserweight division thus far!

Vassily Jirov 2-0-0 (2), Kazakhstan vs David Haye 6-0-1 (5), England -
Jirov was at his brawling best, working the body well then going upstairs to great effect, opening a cut on the inside of the left brow in the 4th then scoring a 7th round knockdown before reopening the cut in the 8th for the TKO.

Juan Carlos Gomez 4-0-0 (4), Cuba vs Guillermo Jones 3-0-0 (2), Panama -
Gomez used the entire ring and every dirty tactic in the book to build up a solid lead then hold on as the hard charging Jones tried to close the gap late in the fight. Jones made it close, but didn't do enough to impress the majority of the judges as they had it 8-6 Gomez, 8-6 Jones and 8-6 for the winner by split decision, Gomez!

Carlos DeLeon 3-0-0 (3), vs Jean-Marc Mormeck 5-0-0 (5), France -
Yet another action packed bout in this round saw Mormeck down twice, but he fought back well after each one, keeping it close. Both men were called for four fouls during this one, with the referee being harsher with DeLeon as he deducted points from him on two occasions. Both rounds turned out to be Mormeck rounds, so it had no bearing on the decision. The judges had it 9-6 DeLeon, 8-6 for Mormeck and 9-6 for the winner by split decision, DeLeon!

World Tournament - Cruiserweights - Semi-Finals

Semi-Finals:

Vasily Jirov 3-0-0 (3), Kazakhstan vs Victor Emilio Ramirez 6-0-0 (4), Argentina -
The Cinderella run of Ramirez came to a screeching halt in the 10th round of this scheduled 15 rounder. Jirov dropped him in the 5th and 8th rounds before landing a wicked 3 punch combo that put Ramirez out for the count. The amazing run of Ramirez netted him a surprising Bronze Medal in this tourney, while Jirov now fights for the Gold.

Juan Carlos Gomez 5-0-0 (4), Cuba vs Carlos DeLeon 4-0-0 (3), Puerto Rico -
Thrilling toe to toe action was the norm in this bout as both fighters went back and forth with the fight even as late as the 11th round before Gomez landed two knockdown punches in the 13th followed by two more in the 14th to finish DeLeon for the KO win and a shot at the Gold Medal!

World Tournament - Cruiserweights - Gold Medal Bout

Gold Medal Bout:

Vassily Jirov 4-0-0 (4), Kazakhstan vs Juan Carlos Gomez 6-0-0 (5)

Round 1:

A feeling out round saw Gomez showing respect for the power of Jirov, moving well and scoring from outside periodically. Towards the end of the round Jirov landed a huge overhand right that staggered Gomez, but the edge was for Gomez. 1-0 Gomez

Round 2:

Jirov came out swinging, forcing the action and landing several crushing hooks that caused alarming swelling around the left eye of Gomez. Gomez countered well, scoring mostly to the head, but Jirov gladly took the shots to bore in and work both upstairs and downstairs in a huge round! 1-1 even

Round 3:

Jirov was staggered early and spent most of the round trying to work close, so much so that he clinched too much. Gomez landed some good clean uppercuts and hooks towards the end of the round, but drew a warning for leaning on the neck of a clinching Jirov. 2-1 Gomez

Round 4:

Gomez had his best round of the fight, moving well and darting in to land combinations that repeatedly rocked Jirov. Jirov couldn't handle the quickness, and missed several haymakers and was clearly frustrated as the bell rang. 3-1 Gomez

Round 5:

The pace slowed as both men seemed to be gathering themselves, with Gomez doing his damage from outside, but Jirov did a better job of responding overall in what was an even round on my card. 3-1 Gomez

Round 6:

The pace picked up in dramatic fashion, with Jirov working the body well and slowing Gomez's movement for the time being. Gomez fired back with intensity, landing good shots both upstairs and down, with a flurry at the end of the round that may have stolen the round for him. 4-1 Gomez

Round 7:

Jirov used a lead cross to good effect, mixing it in well with several power shots that Gomez wasn't able to respond to as he was in a daze. Jirov focused on the body well the latter part of the round as he found his stride! 4-2 Gomez

Round 8:

Jirov targeted the left eye most of the round, causing the swelling to become angrier and angrier as the round went on. Gomez was nearly out of gas it seemed, but came back strong in the latter part of the round as the fans were on their feet cheering both men! 4-3 Gomez

Round 9:

Both men showed amazing heart in yet another action packed round that saw Jirov start fast and score well throughout the round while Gomez rallied with ferocity as the left eye became more of a hindrance! 4-4 even

Round 10:

Gomez was clearly breathing hard to start the round, and the body work by Jirov didn't help matters as Gomez spent all too much time flat footed and on the ropes while Jirov worked him over! 5-4 Jirov

Round 11:

Jirov smelled the end in this round and came out focused and working the body well, bulling Gomez to the corner and landing hard shots with abandon, then dropping Gomez!

The corner of Gomez worked feverishly to help their fallen pugilist and he was able to get up and hug the victor as the results were read to the crowd! Gomez earned the Silver Medal for his efforts in this tourney while Jirov takes the Gold Medal home!

World Tournament - Heavyweights - Round 1 - Part 1

Round 1 - Part 1:

Arturo Godoy 0-0-0 (0), Chile vs Joey Armstrong 1-0-0 (1), Ghana -
Godoy dominated the first 3 rounds with a brilliant body attack. Armstrong came back strong with a terrific 5th as they stood toe to toe which pleased the crowd! Godoy opened the 5th with an early knockdown then scored another late in the round before the referee halted the bout to save the now defenseless Armstrong from serious harm.

Francesco Damiani 5-0-0 (4), Italy vs Lajos Eros 1-0-0 (1), Hungary -
Damiani started strong, scoring a knockdown in the 2nd. Eros took the 4th and a brutal 5th that had both announcers nearly hoarse after calling the round! At the end of the 5th, Damiani had a bad gash on his forehead that threatened to end the bout. His corner did a great job of closing it, and sent him out to finish Eros, and he performed brilliantly, landing a huge combination that put Eros down for the count with 1:47 left in the 6th round!

Ruslan Chagaev 1-0-0 (0), Uzbekistan vs Vincent Kafoa 0-0-0 (0), New Caledonia -
Chagaev struggled against Kafoa despite a 2nd round knockdown as Kafoa crowded him well, then mauled him with low blows and other fouls. Chagaev dropped an overhand right in the 8th that put the over achieving Kafoa out for the count to move to the next round.

Nino Valdez 3-0-0 (2), Cuba vs Maxime Mauligalo 0-0-0 (0), French Polynesia -
Valdez dominated, scoring a 1st round knockdown then two more in the 5th, the last one for the KO.

Sinan Samil Sam 1-0-0 (1), Turkey vs George Neron 0-0-0 (0), Greece -
Sam patiently worked the body, wearing Neron down before scoring a 9th round knockdown. The two men accidentally clashed heads in the 10th round resulting in a nasty gash on the left eyelid of Neron. Sam scored another knockdown in the 11th round then reopened the eyelid later in the round to halt the bout and send it to the score cards. Little drama in the scores as the judges had it 8-1, 8-1 and 7-2 for Sam.

Bernardo Mercado 0-0-0 (0), Columbia vs Akira Saito 1-0-0 (1), Japan -
Saito showed no fear of the hard hitting Mercado, going toe to toe, actually edging an action packed 1st round. Mercado started landing harder shots in the 2nd, but Saito stayed in the pocket, and it cost him as he went down two times in the 3rd, and was on the way down again when the referee grabbed him and halted the bout for the Mercado TKO.

Alberto Santiago Lovell 4-0-0 (4), Argentina vs Sugar Silex 1-0-0 (1), Portugal -
Both men were tentative in the 1st round. Silex ducked into a brutal uppercut to the temple early in the 2nd that dropped him for the 10 count.

Andrew Golota 3-0-0 (3), Poland vs Sung-Min Son 0-0-0 (0), South Korea - Golota was ferocious against the outmatched Son, landing at will then capping it with a beautiful overhand right that had Son down and out with 21 seconds left in the 1st!

World Tournament - Heavyweights - Round 1 - Part 2

Round 1 - Part 2:

Charley Weinert 0-0-0 (0), Austria vs Awad Tamimu 0-0-0 (0), Tanzania -
A tactical bout that bordered on dull had a few good moments as Tamimu and Weinert did scrap now and then. Weinert outworked, out landed and had better defense than Tamimu and it reflected in the judging 12-3, 9-4 and 11-3 for Weinert.

Otto Von Porat 1-0-0 (0), Norway vs Young Uzcudan 0-0-0 (0), Philippines -
An expected slugfest that didn't happen as it was all Von Porat throughout, working the body well and blocking Uzcudan's feeble attempts at offense effectively. Von Porat landed a beautiful uppercut in the 4th that sent Uzcudan to dream street for the KO win.

Corrie Sanders 4-0-0 (4), South Africa vs John Westgarth 0-0-0 (0), Malta -
Sanders dominated from the opening bell, landing a vicious hook in the 2nd round for the KO.

Fres Oquendo 2-0-0 (2), Puerto Rico vs Rogers Yamba 2-0-0 (1), DR Congo -
Oquendo was at his best, using the ring well, scoring several hard shots per round, including 4 knockdowns. Yamba survived to the end, a moral victory for sure, but it was all Oquendo in the score cards, 13-2, 12-3 and 13-2.

Serguei Lyakhovich 1-0-0 (1), Belarus vs Prince Salah el Din 0-0-0 (0), Egypt -
Lyakhovich swarmed Salah el Din in this short bout, battering him with flurries until the referee halted it with 8 seconds left in the 2nd round for the TKO.

Alfredo Evangelista 0-0-0 (0), Uruguay vs Henry Bray 1-0-0 (1), Fiji -
Bray fought valiantly at times, but Evangelista's stellar body work had him gassed by the 7th round and Evangelista took advantage, dropping Bray in the 8th then the 9th before the referee had seen enough and called it with 36 seconds left in the 9th.

Owen Beck 2-0-0 (2), Jamaica vs Ray Anis 0-0-0 (0), Haiti -
Other than a good 2nd round, Anis was never in this one as Beck battered him throughout. That being said, it was a bit of a shocker that the referee halted the bout in the 6th round when Beck had Anis trapped on the ropes and was working the body hard.

Had a bit of an oops, but caught it in time. Round 1 consisted of 15 fights to set the field at 64.

World Tournament - Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 1

Round 2 - Part 1

Jack Johnson 9-0-2 (5), United States vs Rocky Campbell 0-0-0 (0), Antigua and Barbuda -
Johnson boxed smoothly in an offensive stance from outside, scoring well then landing a big knockdown in the 3rd round. He went in for the kill and continued rocking Campbell with shot after shot until the referee stepped in for the TKO.

Peter Jackson 5-0-0 (5), Australia vs Goran Gogic 0-0-0 (0), Montenegro -
Jackson took it to Gogic, scoring well to the body and wearing him down then he turned it up a notch in the 3rd and 4th, scoring at will with bomb after bomb until the referee halted it with 11 seconds left in the 4th round.

Lewis Lennox 5-0-0 (4), England vs John Knifton 2-0-0 (2), Scotland -
Lennox controlled the bout from the opening bell, using the ring well and scoring seemingly at will. Taking the patient approach paid off as he landed a sweet combo in the 4th that put Knifton down for the 8 count before finishing him with a barrage of rights and lefts that left Knifton defenseless on the ropes when the referee stepped in for the TKO.

Max Schmeling 5-0-0 (5), Germany vs Kerton Manswell 1-0-0 (0), Trinidad And Tobago -
After a feeling out round, Schmeling started to land with bad intent, scoring well to the body off the jab then moving upstairs with a series of devastating combos that had Manswell slumping in the corner when the referee halted it for the Schmeling TKO win.

Vitali Klitschko 2-0-0 (2), Ukraine vs Paul Mbongo 1-0-0 (1), Cameroon -
Mbongo had a terrific 4th round but Klitschko still took it with a huge body attack. He continued in the 5th, landing two straight left hooks to the body followed by a crushing right uppercut that floored Mbongo for the 10 count.

Paolino Uzcudun 2-0-0 (2), Spain vs Danny McAlinden 0-0-0 (0), Northern Ireland -
Scrappy describes McAlinden, who won a few rounds and stayed close on most of the others despite 3 early knockdowns. Uzcudun landed a haymaker in the 12th that finally dispatche McAlinden.

Tom Sharkey 4-0-0 (4), Ireland vs Gunnar Barlund 1-0-0 (0), Finland -
Sharkey kept the pressure on Barlund, smothering him with punches from all angles throughout the bout before landing a huge cross in the 4th that put Barlund down for the count.

George Chuvalo 5-0-0 (5), Canada vs Joseph Chingangu 1-0-0 (1), Zambia -
Chuvalo wasted little time, scoring 4 knockdowns in the 1st round, the final one for the count as the round ended!

World Tournament - Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 2

Round 2 - Part 2:

Nikolay Valuev 3-0-0 (1), Russia vs Roberto Davila 0-0-0 (0), Peru -
Valuev opened strong, taking the first two rounds with ease. Davila showed he had something to show in the 4th, forcing the action nicely and scoring very well on the inside to take the round. Valuev adjusted in the 4th, then opened a gash on the left eyebrow that halted the bout immediately for the ring doctor to take a look. After a couple of minutes he shook his head no to the referee who immediately called the bout for Valuev by TKO on cuts!

David Tua 2-0-0 (1), Samoa vs Richel Hersisia 2-0-0 (1), Netherlands -
Tua came in out of shape, and Hersisia made him pay for it with good movement as most of the first 7 rounds were close. Tua scored 7 knockdowns between the 8th and 10th rounds before the referee halted the fight with 1 second left in the 10th for the Tua TKO! Tua had best start taking his opponents seriously or he won't last much longer in this tourney.

Zeljko Mavrovic 1-0-0 (0), Croatia vs Clarence Hill 0-0-0 (0), Bermuda -
A shockingly close fight saw Mavrovic build up a lead then Hill surprised everyone with a 9th round knockdown! Mavrovic picked himself up and survived the round then took control again, scoring a 12th round knockdown. Hill fought well the final 3 rounds, but it didn't seem to be enough to win the fight in the eyes of this observer. The fight went the distance with the judges scoring it 9-5, 8-4 and 10-4 for Mavrovic. The crowd showed respect for both fighters with a standing ovation afterwards.

Tommy Farr 3-0-0 (1), Wales vs Proud Kilimanjaro 1-0-0 (1), Zimbabwe -
Farr came in a bit soft, while Kilimanjaro appeared to be finely chiseled coming into this bout. Far moved well however, using clever defense and fast combinations and jabs to keep Kilimanjaro at bay, taking the first 4 rounds with relative ease. Kilimanjaro started closing the distance, landing big shots from the 5th on, but Farr responded well to build up a big lead. In the 10th round Farr opened cuts over both eyes before the referee halted the fight for the TKO on cuts.

Andre Lenglet 3-0-0 (3), France vs Konstantin Onofrei 2-0-0 (1), Romania -
A good close action bout saw Lenglet badly cut in the 3rd round. His corner did a bang up job of closing it and keeping it closed the rest of the way, then Lenglet opened a cut over the left eye of Onofrei in the 6th, that was on the inside of the brow. That cut was sufficiently bad to cause the fight to be halted for the Lenglet TKO with Onofrei up 3-2 on my card through the 5th.

Ingemar Johansson 2-0-0 (2), Sweden vs Evans Quinn 0-0-0 (0), Nicaragua -
Both men came in in tip top shape, but it was Johansson that dominated throughout the fight, scoring knockdowns in the 5th and 8th rounds before the referee halted the bout as Quinn clearly couldn't see punches, and was unable to fend for himself halfway through the 8th for the Johansson TKO.

Ike Ibeabuchi 3-0-0 (3), Nigeria vs Ahmed Abdin 0-0-0 (0), Syria -
Ibeabuchi was cut in the 1st round and dropped in the 3rd by a looping right hand from Abdin. The cut reopened late in the 3rd then widened in the 4th for the first major upset of the tourney as Abdin wins by TKO on cuts!

Arturo Godoy 1-0-0 (1), Chile vs Shane Cameron 3-0-0 (3), New Zealand -
A real slugfest, Cameron built up a lead, surviving a 7th round knockdown, then held on as Godoy tried for the desperation KO in the final two rounds. I had it 8-7 Cameron, while the judges had it 8-7, 8-7 and 8-7 for the winner by narrow unanimous decision, Cameron! Cameron out worked Godoy and it paid off in the end.

World Tournament - Heavyweights - Round 2 - Part 3

Round 2 - Part 3:

Francesco Damiani 6-0-0 (5), Italy vs Pierre Charles 3-0-0 (2), Belgium -
A barn burner early, Damiani forged a lead, but ran out of gas by the 10th. Charles came back in the latter part of the fight, and with several close rounds it was hard to gauge how the judges would see it. I had it 7-6 Damiani. The scoring was close, as expected, with the judges having it 7-6, 6-8 and 6-5 for the winner by split decision, Charles! This was the 3rd straight upset in this tourney.

Ruslan Chagaev 2-0-0 (1), Uzbekistan vs Fernely Feliz 1-0-1 (1), Dominican Republic -
Chagaev was determined to halt the string of upsets in this tourney, and he boxed very cleverly against Feliz, moving well then stepping forward for 3 knockdowns during the bout. Shortly after the 3rd knockdown in the 13th round, he opened a ghastly gash over the right eye of Feliz that halted the bout for the TKO.

Nino Valdes 4-0-0 (3), Cuba vs Roman Greenberg 0-0-0 (0), Israel -
Valdes boxed well, but Greenberg did a great job of cutting off the ring and forcing the action, this one went back and forth, with Valdez going down for an 8 count in the 5th round. They clashed heads in the 6th round resulting in a gash on the eyelid of Valdes, and it reopened in the 7th to send it to the cards. I had it 3-3 even while the judges had it 3-3, 3-2 Greenberg and 3-3 even for the majority draw. Rematch later in the post.

Sinan Samil Sam 2-0-0 (1), Turkey vs Georgi Kandelaki 0-0-0 (0), Georgia -
Kandelaki fought valiantly, surviving 4 knockdowns to make for a good entertaining fight, but Sam took the day behind his power to earn the 10-4, 8-6 and 9-5 decision.

Bernardo Mercado 1-0-0 (1), Columbia vs Peter Okhello 0-0-0 (0), Uganda -
Any fan of slugfests would have loved this one. They went back and forth, scoring frequently. A clash of heads in the 6th resulted in a gash over the left eye of Mercado. In the 7th Okhello dropped Mercado for a 9 count then reopened the cut and the referee halted the bout and sent it to the cards. I had Mercado up 4-2, but with so many high scoring close rounds it really was either man's fight. The judges had it 3-2, 4-2 and 4-2 for Mercado, just as Okhello seemed to be in control!

Alberto Santiago Lovell 5-0-0 (5), Argentina vs Ondrej Pala 1-0-0 (1), Czech Republic -
After 4 close action packed rounds, Lovell began to assert himself, though Pala was cut by an accidental butt in the 5th. Lovell dropped Pala early in the 6th then was piling it on, hurting Pala with both hands when the referee halted it for the Lovell TKO win!

Andrew Golota 4-0-0 (4), Poland vs Andre Purlette 0-0-0 (0), Guyana -
Golota scored a 1st round knockdown early, then dominated the first 3 rounds, opening a gash on the hairline in the 2nd that reopened and widened throughout. Purlette was dominating the 4th, having by far his best round when the cut reopened again and the ring doctor said he couldn't continue, much to the chagrin of Purlette's team.

Charley Weinert 1-0-0 (0), Austria vs Adilson Rodrigues 2-0-0 (1), Brazil -
A back and forth bout that was Weinert use the entire ring and quick hands to build up a solid lead. Rodrigues came storming back however, leaving the fight in doubt at the end of 15. Both men felt they'd won the fight. I had it 8-7 Weinert while the judging was mixed, 9-6 Weinert, 8-7 Rodrigues and 8-7 for the winner by split decision, Weinert.

Rematch:

Nino Valdes 4-0-1 (3), Cuba vs Roman Greenberg 0-0-1 (0), Israel -
Valdes took control early in this one, then scored an 8th round knockdown only to have Greenberg storm back with a knockdown of his own in the 9th! Valdes came back with a pair of knockdowns in the 10th, the final one for the count!

A quick update folks. I have changed over to the latest version of 2.6 to finish this tourney, then I will continue it with the next tourney on the same thread. I'm also considering reviving my old IBA Uni as well, if there's interest.
