Boston is the team to beat in the playoffs because of the balance the team possesses. Starting pitching? Check. Hitting? Check. Defense? Check. Bullpen? Ditto.

The Yankees mediocre pitching could really hurt them in the postseason. Defense doesn't seem to be very reliable, either.

I disagree. The Yankees are a scary team to play in a short (5 or 7) game series. They're always liable to put up 12 or 13 runs in a game, and if the offense catches fire when the postseason gets started (assuming they make it) they won't really need to have awesome pitching.

I totally agree.

The Yankees know how to play against good pitchers, and they are always capable of working on them well, make the great pitchers throw more than 100 pitches before 6 innings.

Jeter, Abreu, Giambe (Maybe not this year but), Matsui...
Those guys will kill you in the post season games, not A-Rod.

Well, I think that 4.63RA is little tricky, as they still had Igawa then!

Here's a history lesson about how fleeting fame and appreciation can be in baseball (from the Wikipedia entry for Sparky Lyle):
Quote:
[D]espite the fact Lyle had won the 1977 Cy Young Award, the Yankees signed Goose Gossage as a free agent during the 1977 off-season, and Gossage followed with an outstanding 1978 season which made Lyle expendable. On November 10, 1978, Lyle was part of a major trade that sent him, along with four other players and cash, to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Juan Beníquez and four other players, including a young Dave Righetti. During the 1978 season, Yankees teammate Graig Nettles famously quipped that Lyle went "from Cy Young to sayonara."
Gagne's Cy Young Award was four years ago.

But not Yankee fans, of course. Not all of them, anyway, yes?
