Jack Compton
Jack Compton made his debut with two innings of work on the hill for the Cincinnati Reds in 1911. He was busy, pitching eight games during his three weeks in the majors to the tune of a career 0-1, 3.91 record. Jack had been 22-6 with the Dayton Veterans in 1911, returning to Dayton from 1912-1915 with a 20-7 mark in 1914. He was player-manager in 1915. - bRef Bullpen wiki
The original one looks like it was made from the dark bRef picture but I found one on the great Photopack thread next door and used it instead. Last edited by LansdowneSt; 11-19-2021 at 08:51 PM. |

Rod Gaspar
Though his major-league career was limited to parts of four seasons, Rod Gaspar was anything but a footnote player. While he played in only one full year in the majors, it was as a World Champion. Gaspar led National League outfielders in double plays while scoring a pivotal run in the 1969 World Series. Six years later, he witnessed a second baseball “Miracle” in Honolulu. Wherever he played, Gaspar was known for his spectacular outfield play and his late-inning heroics. Retiring from baseball at the age of 30, Gaspar successfully made the transition to a second career in the financial services industry and his son was the #1 pick of the Tigers (18th Overall) in 1994. - SABR

Wilmer Flores
On July 29th, 2015 Wilmer Flores made news around the country when a rumor began circulating that he and P Zack Wheeler had just been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in return for OF Carlos Gomez; he was playing in a home game against the San Diego Padres at the time, and the crowd gave him a standing ovation as he came to bat in the 7th, and he then broke out in tears on the field in the 8th, distraught at leaving a team that he seen grow into a contender. It turned out that the trade was only a rumor, though, and that he was still a member of the Mets at the end of the day. The speculation had been fueled by the fact that New York had acquired two infielders, Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson, a few days earlier, making Wilmer's role with the team going forward unclear. In any case, he stayed with the Mets, and on July 31st hit a walk-off homer against Felipe Rivero of the Washington Nationals to give the Mets a 2-1 win and prove once again that the best trades are often the ones you don't make. Currently a SF Giant and one of the few active players that's been requested...
Redid the facegen and it looks like I used the same photo as the basis for it.. |

Miguel Rojas
Every lost cause has its beacon, and for the Marlins, it came in the form of a decent-hitting but unspectacular infielder who saw a busload of cornerstones – Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and J.T. Realmuto – traded to greener pastures as an ownership change created massive turnover. It was clear who the glue guy was going to be. “He’s taken on a leadership role in the clubhouse, he’s taken on a leadership role in the community, in the media,” says Jeter of Rojas, now 31 and coming off a 40-game season in which he batted .304 and produced an .888 OPS. “Since we took over three years ago, I’ve had plenty of conversations with Miggy. He’s been very vocal about the fact he wanted to be with this organization, because he trusted what we were going to do and what we are doing. - USA Today, Sept 30, 2020
However, this is mostly what I remember from 2020 and Rojas, from Bleacher Report: Despite knowing multiple players had tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Miami Marlins players decided via group text messages they would play. Manager Don Mattingly said infielder Miguel Rojas led the group text. "He's kind of an unofficial team captain of our club," Mattingly said, per Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "He's always texting the group and getting the feelings of the group. So when we're dealing with situations or things, that's usually who we're working through." Rojas said the Marlins never considered opting out of the game. “That was never the mentality,” Rojas said. “We knew that this would happen at some point. We came to the ballpark and we were ready to play. That was never our thought that we weren’t going to play.” Man, 2020 was a messed up year... but mostly because the Marlins made the playoffs Redid the facegen. A second active player too - so nice to have professional color photos to work with!

On the topic of active players bud, have you done one for Tatis jr?
Don't want to sound harsh, but not seeing much likeness with the one in the CU at the moment... ![]() EDIT - I checked the spreadsheet and see you haven't. No need to rush it, bud, this one still looks fine. But if you do fell the urge at some stage, I won't say no! Thanks G

Frank Shellenback
Many believe that spitballer Frank Shellenback had his major-league career stolen from him when his key pitch was outlawed. In 1920 the National Commission did away with trick deliveries, including the spitball — and Shellenback’s team, the Chicago White Sox, for whom he had pitched in 1918 and 1919, didn’t list his name among those grandfathered to legally throw the pitch in the majors because he was then in the American Association. “That oversight prevented my ever getting another chance in the big leagues,” he later remarked.
For the very reason that Shellenback was an effective pitcher, he wasn’t welcomed back. But the Pacific Coast League allowed Shelly, as he was known in the clubhouse, to utilize his complete arsenal. He lasted another 19 years in the PCL and amassed 300 or more career victories in the minors. When he retired as a player after the 1938 season, he was the last legal spitball pitcher in Organized Baseball. (Burleigh Grimes was the last in the major leagues.) There’s another side of the story. Shellenback grew up in Los Angeles and preferred the fine weather and leisurely pace of the West Coast to the predominantly Eastern major leagues. In fact, he asked the White Sox to trade him to a Pacific Coast League club even before the spitball was banned. He was also more than happy to stay close to his family. As Shellenback later professed, “I enjoyed my stay at Hollywood, was well paid and didn’t have to worry about moving my wife and six children from one city to another.” Yet while Frank was torn about his exclusion from the majors — he noted, “In a way that was a good break for me but in another way it wasn’t so good” — it was fortuitous that he parted ways with the White Sox when he did. At the age of 19, Shellenback played most of the 1918 season in Chicago, as pitchers Red Faber and Lefty Williams lost much of the year to World War I. Young Frank was friendly with and played beside Chick Gandil and Fred McMullin over the winter of 1918-19 in California. He was also well acquainted with fellow West Coast players Williams, Buck Weaver, and Swede Risberg. Had Shellenback stayed with the White Sox at the end of 1919, it’s conceivable that these associations might have led him down the path to expulsion from Organized Baseball in the wake of the tainted World Series. - SABR Redid the facegen from an older picture of him as a pitching coach. He played when he was 19 and 20 years old so is was tough to try and de-age the photo. Alas, that elder Frank was still the best photo to use. I think it is close enough and certainly better than the old fg. Last edited by LansdowneSt; 11-19-2021 at 10:04 PM. Reason: added SABR attribution |

Fernando Tatis Jr.
LOS ANGELES -- Fernando Tatis Jr. was barely 3 months old when his father made history by launching two grand slams in the same inning at Dodger Stadium on April 23, 1999. Twenty-two years to the day, the younger Tatis rolled into Dodger Stadium, fully aware of the significance. “I definitely knew this was the day,” Tatis would later say. “I told myself: Imagine if you hit two home runs today. That would be so crazy.” Well, guess what happened Friday night at Dodger Stadium. Tatis celebrated the anniversary in style -- with two home runs of his own in the Padres’ 6-1 victory over the Dodgers. Call it a family tradition. “I feel like the baseball gods were in my favor today,” Tatis said. “Glad it happened. It’s definitely something me and my family are going to celebrate and something that’s going to be in my heart for the rest of my life.” - mlb.com, by AJ Cassavell, April 24th, 2021
As to the facegen, there are three choices. The fg that shipped with the game (and keeps overwriting whatever I put in my fg_files folder) is the first one on the left, the Jack-Nicholson-as-the-Joker-smiling one. Then there is the one in the CU Facepack which I think looks better when I screenshot it as opposed to when you screenshot it for whatever reason. Still shows a happy-go-lucky Tatis Jr. and is pretty good (esp. since it's not gray and undead like many I've done). For another version, I looked for the kind of photo the software likes which is more a closed mouth, unsmiling one. I prefer these in my game but that's strictly personal preference. So that's the one on the far right in my typical "after" spot. It may or may not look better in your game, but at least it's a third option in the buffet of faces for folks to use or not... |

Steve Swetonic
The below tale is recounted on the site http://www.marybelle52.com/449687531 by Wayne Moody. There's no SABR bio and no mention of any of this on his bRef Bullpen wiki or Wikipedia page. If anyone from SABR reads this, please assign the bio!
One never knows what's to be found when searching for something interesting to write-up for a facegen posting!Sweeeeetonic, that silky tone my grandfather used when speaking about his friend from Mt. Pleasant, PA. Steve Albert Swetonic was a Major League pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was also a White player barnstorming with Negro League greats. Born August 13, 1903, Swetonic was attributed with something light skinned Black players used to do……it’s called passing. Passing was when a player pretended to be a different race, to allow them to play in certain locales. Steve pretended to be Black. Negro League star pitcher. Ralph “Lefty” Mellix, used to call Swetonic, “That handsome rascal.” With an olive complexion, he was definitely a “What is he" candidate. In the Major League Baseball off season, Steve traveled to Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela with Negro League greats. He often used his middle name, Albert, when he played. He actually made more money in the off season, traveling all over the world in barnstorming tradition, than he made in Major League Baseball. Swetonic pitched in one hundred and thirty-eight games for the Pittsburgh Pirates, between 1929 and 1935. His record was thirty-seven wins and thirty-six losses, and a tremendous lifetime ERA of 3.81. His best season with the Pirates, he was 11-6 and pitched a league leading four shutouts. Steve’s Major League career ended abruptly. Like many Negro League pitchers, the year-round work caused arm problems. He regained his arm strength after a year, but time waits for no man, and his Pirate career was over. Steve Swetonic passed away April 22, 1974, at the age of 70 in Canonsburg, PA. A man who bucked racial division, to play the game he loved. After Swetonic’s Major League and Barnstorming career, he pitched against my Grandfather’s 18th Ward teams. Swetonic pitched for Bauers as well as other local teams, and it was always a great rivalry. Well into his late forties and fifties, he often battled Ralph “Lefty” Mellix in championship games. It was called the Muny Loop, a precursor to the Federation Leagues in Pittsburgh. Redid the facegen, adjusting the complexion at the last minute. |

I can't seem to get this to work, I never had a problem doing this before..but my regular OOTP stopped working, so I had to get it on steam and ever since I got it on steam, I can't get facegens to work.. even though I'm doing exactly what I usually do(which worked)

JerseyDan421,
I use the regular version of OOTP so I'm not sure how the files work in Steam. I'm hoping someone here has a Steam version of the game and can assist. I know FancySkunk posts the pack itself in the Workshop and you likely have to subscribe or download it there. He may have specific instructions there as well. I'm not sure if you can add files as you go or need to wait for postings in the Workshop. Again, hoping ta community member that uses the Steam version can let us know. Obviously, make sure facegens are turned on in the Game Settings and go to a player (after an attempted install) and try to refresh the face to see if they are even there and may just need to be all refreshed. |

I appreciate it, I think I got it.. I'm new to steam so I didn't know we had to download stuff from the steam workshop, I'm so use to downloading mods from here. Actually, I followed instructions and I still don't think it's working.. I see players like Nolan Jones,Clarke Schmidt, etc don't have facegens and I'm pretty sure in this pack, they do. Do guys like Oswald Peraza,Clark Schmidt, Nolan Jones have facegens? if so, then it's not working for me.. if not, then it is working.. I'm not really sure how to judge it.. cause before I had to delete my regular OOTP before it got corrupted, those guys had facegens

I checked the current pack, JerseyDan, and there is an Oswald Peraza fg but it needs to be redone. I'll add it to my list. The current prospects, Jones and Schmidt, are not in the current pack and don't appear to be with the in-game default ones either. It's possible they were really good fictional fg's you had or that you had them from another source. I can add those to the list too if you like.
Edit: So the Oswaldo Peraza I looked up was the Oriole from 1988 - not the Yankee prospect. So no to all the prospects. Again, I can do them if you wish Last edited by LansdowneSt; 11-22-2021 at 08:38 AM. |

Corbin Burnes
The Milwaukee Brewers finally have another Cy Young Award winner. Right-hander Corbin Burnes was named the 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner Wednesday when balloting of the Baseball Writers Association of America was announced on the MLB Network. Asked on the show if it was a goal of his to win the Cy Young award, Burnes said, "Growing up, you always want to pitch in the big leagues and you want to be the best in the league. But, for me it wasn't really a goal until really my 2019 season. When you get kicked in the teeth like that (1-5, 8.82 ERA in 32 appearances), to try to come back to the best in the league is the goal. Of bouncing back so quickly, and in such dominant fashion, from that "kick in the teeth," Burnes said, "It's something I'll always carry with me throughout my entire career. Everyone has their story about how they got to the big leagues and the adversity, and that's going to be part of the story, a first-time starter getting knocked around and coming back and figuring it out." - www.jsonline.com
As requested, did one for him without glasses. Last edited by LansdowneSt; 11-22-2021 at 08:28 PM. Reason: added attribution to the narrative |

I think it worked, cause I'm guessing Jasson Dominguez wasn't in the in-game default.. Kind of interesting about Peraza,Jones and Schmidt I think I got them from when this project was started in february-march so maybe their face gen wasn't good enough, so fancyskunk deleted them? im not sure but yes, that would be great if you made them! Also, how do you make facegens? if I knew how, I wouldn't mind helping out the project. |

Sure, I'll add them to my list. Might take me a week as I have some of my own to work on plus other requested ones - but I have a few days off work to sneak some fg time in around Thanksgiving. The ones I do here are as much for myself as for others. I have another thread too where between this one and that one, I'm looking at every fg I have and redoing it or accepting it. If I redo one, I post it so folks can take it or not. I'm not offended if someone passes on it - just trying my best to give back to the community that I too have benefited from going back to OOTP 6.
For those that want the no-frills fg software, it is here: https://facegen.com/ . There is a free version that can make them but I wasn't happy with the results so I spent around $400 for the mid-tier one (the upper end one with custom mesh stuff is all Greek to me). The paid version gives me better results and I'm now much more comfortable with the sliders on it so I can better tweak the results. It's not just aligning the facial points and hitting "generate" it's then using the sliders to better align it with the photo that takes the time. All that said, I think everyone should have the free facegen module - if only to make a face a little more orange or a little pinker etc. to match their individual monitor settings which may differ from mine. EDIT: The free one is the Modeller and technically, they call it the "Demo" version - but ignore the logo it puts on the forehead of the Demo results - that watermark goes under the hat in OOTP
