This has left the team falling backwards in the AL table to 4th place, 8 games behind the leaders.

The fans of the Orioles can still dream about a return of the AL pennant this season after their team put up some outstanding numbers in July. The team picked up an excellent 18 wins during the month while losing only 8. This saw them move up the AL table to 4th place, 8.5 games behind the leaders.

Series results

1-2 on the road to the Chicago White Sox
2-1 on the road to the Cleveland Blues
won the first 2 games of a home series against the Boston Americans

The news from the treatment room this month was mixed. The team were glad to welcome back both King Kelly and Bill Krieg. After lay offs. The bad news was that the team lost starting pitcher Jack Lynch towards the end of the month as he picked up an intercostal strain which will see him miss 2 weeks of the season.

Youngster Toad Ramsey keeps going from strength to strength as the season continues. His work from the mound is showing he has a great future in the game. He won 10 of the 13 games he started in July. From the 113.2 games he pitched he gave up 96 hits and 40 earned runs for an ERA of 3.17. These figures were good enough to earn him the AL Rookie of the Month award for July.

The AL Batting award for the month once again went to First Baseman Dan Brouthers who had another excellent month with an average of .340

There was mixed news from the treatment table during the month. They lost the services of Hub Collins for 5 weeks with a Plantar Fiscitis. He also suffered a severe set back in his recovery at the end of the month as he was ruled out for another 3-4 weeks as his injury worsened. The team did manage to get Dick Phelan back from injury at the end of the month.

While the team seems to be struggling for form as a unit, one person did show some fight for the team. This person was Bill Sweeney, who managed to pick up 8 of the 11 wins the Americans had during the month. He figures were 8 wins from 13 games pitched. He gave up 99 hits and 31 earned runs from 114.1 innings pitched for an ERA of 2.44.

Second Baseman Ezra Sutton showed that experience counts in the National League when batting. The 36 year old pulled in 35 hits from his 106 at bats during 26 games played. He scored 20 runs and 18 RBI's for an average of .330.

The fans of the Red Stockings saw another average performance from their team during July. The team picked up a record of 12-12 during the month. This saw them slip back to 5th place in the NL table, 14 games behind the leaders.

Series results
2-1 on the road to the Boston Beaneaters
1-1 on the road to the New York Giants
1-2 on the road to the Brooklyn Grays

The injury news could be said to be good for the team in July. The team saw the return of Fred Dunlap and Pete Gillespie during the month. The one drawback on the treatment table was the fact that Monte Ward had to miss 2 weeks of the month with a strained forearm.

A major reason for the Red Stockings continued steady progress this season is down to pitcher Alex Voss. Voss managed to win 8 of his 12 games in July. He gave up 118 hits and 32 earned runs during 102.2 innings pitched for an ERA of 2.81.

The uptick in form from the Blues in June was short lived as the fans had to sit through an average month from their team in July. The team managed a 12-12 record for the month of July. This has left them in 7th place in the AL table, 15.5 games behind the leaders.

Series results

2-0 on the road to the Detroit Wolverines
1-2 on the road to the Boston Americans
lost a game against the Philadelphia Athletics (second game re-arranged later in the month due to bad weather)
2-1 at home to the Louisville Colonels
0-3 at home to the Chicago White Sox
2-1 at home to the Washington Nationals
1-2 at home to the Baltimore Orioles
2-1 at the start of a road trip to the Philadelphia Athletics (including a re-arranged game)

Wilbert Robinson missed 2 weeks of the month due to a bruised foot.

With another average month all round for the team the only real star was pitcher Jim McCormick. This stalwart of the team gave another month of solid performance. He won 7 of his 12 games while giving up 92 hits and 27 earned runs during the 102.1 innings pitched. This earned him an ERA of 2.37 for the month.

1st August 1886

The Wolverines season continues to disappoint their fans as the team struggled through another month of games in July. The team picked up 12 wins from the 26 games they played. They still sit in last place in the AL table, 20.5 games behind the leaders.

Series results
3-0 at home to the Louisville Colonels
0-2 at home to the Cleveland Blues
0-3 at home to the Baltimore Orioles
1-2 on the road to the Washington Nationals
2-2 at home to the Chicago White Sox
2-1 at home to the Boston Americans
2-1 on the road to the Philadelphia Athletics
0-3 on the road to the Louisville Colonels
won first 2 games of home series against the Washington Nationals

The team lost starting pitcher Pete Conway halfway through the month. He will be out for 6 weeks with a hip strain.

Normally at this point we would be saying that their were no real performers in the Wolverines team but this month to our surprise someone did step up and make themselves count. This person was Centre Fielder George Myers. Myers managed to claim 30 hits from his 96 at bats in the 25 games he played. He scored 16 runs with 12 RBI's for an average of .313
