New 1967 Heavyweight Replay Project
Dave Centi Rating 1 USA
HW 1964-68 11 wins / 15 losses / 0 draws / 3 KO Hometown: Tacoma, WA Birthplace: Eugene, OR Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Centi won his first 7 fights up thru mid 1965. They incluced 4, 6 round decisions over Richie Peters(4-22-1,3KO) and the last of the 7 was a 5 round decision over Emil Umek who was from Frankfort, Germany but he came to America to fight almost his entire career(fought once in Canada and once in Mexico). It was Umek's first career bout. That fight was on June 11, 1965. Two weeks later, Centi fought another new heavyweight on the west coast, Jerry Quarry who was 3-0-0. Quarry dropped Centi n the 2nd round on the way to a 6 round UD. Centi won 3 of his next 4 bouts but then finished 1965 with two losses to Don Koontz and a loss to Matt Blow. 1966 didn't start any better as he dropped 2 fights to Ski Golstein both 10 round decisions and then lost a 10 rounder to Jimmy Rossette. After winning a 10 round MD over a John L Davey(6-8-4,2) he lost two more fights in 1966, 3rd round KO by Manuel Ramos(the first of only 2 fights outside the US, this being in Mexico) and 6 round decision loss to Chuck Wepner. In 1967 he lost straight fights to Dave Zyglewicz, Tony Doyle, Wayne Kindred and Ski Goldstein. In April 1968 Centi traveled outside the US for only the 2nd time for a fight as he went to Sao Paulo, Brazil to take on Luis Faustino Pires. Pires KO'd him in the 6th round and then ended Centi's career. Tom Pawloski Rating 1 USA HW 1964-67 3 wins / 2 losses / 0 draws / 3 KO Hometown: Oakland, CA Birthplace: Poland Rating by: Rocco Del SEsto After a knockout win in his first fight in August 1964, Pawloski fought Henry Clark who was 4-2-1 in the early part of his career. Clark beat Pawloski in a 10 round decision. Pawloski is then absent for close to 2 years with his next recorded fight in November 1966, a 1st round KO of Al Carter(3-13-1,0). Next up in December that year is a 2nd round knock out of a Pedro Rojas for Rojas' only appearance in boxrec. Two months later in mid February 1967 we see Pawloski for the last time as he's stopped in the first round by Matt Blow after referee Joey Olmos stops the fight at 2:29 after Pawloski is knocked down for the 2nd time. John Massey Rating 1 USA HW 1959-67 13 wins / 2 losses / 2 draws / 9 KO Hometown: Portland, OR Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto From August 1959 thru May 1961 Massey put together a 9-1-2,8KO record against the local Oregon/Washington heavyweights. With that record, Massey traveled to the Madison Square Garden in October 1961 to take on another up and coming heavyweight, Billy Daniels was 12-0-0 at the time. Massey showed himself to be outclassed as he dropped a 6 round UD to Daniels. After that Massey dropped out of the boxing scene for 3-1/2 years before making an abbreviated comeback that didn't amount to much despite 4 wins. Three of them came against Richie Peters(4-22-1,3) and the other one against a Harold Jones who's career mark amounts to the 2nd round TKO loss to Massey. Massey finished his career for good with a 6 round decision over Peters in February 1967. |

New 1967 Heavyweight Replay Project
Matt Blow Rating 5 USA
HW 1965-68 6 wins / 4 losses / 1 draw / 3 KO Hometown: New York, NY Rating by; Rocco Del Sesto Blow's career started with 4 straight wins, a 6 round UD over Dave Centi(11-15-0,3), a 6 round decision over Ski Goldstein(13-6-0,10) and then early round knockouts of Sonny Ray and Jimmy Rossette. In December 1966 he lost a 10 round split decision to Hank Casey. Casey was a middleweight from the mid 50's up through 1964 accummulating a 30-8-6 record. He'd not fought since November 1964 when he staged a comeback as a heavyweight here in late 1966 against Matt Blow. Blow's career tailed off after the defeat to Casey winning only twice in 1967 against Tom Pawloski and a Charlie James while loosing to Wayne Kindred. In 1968 he lost 2, 10 round decisions to Florida Al Jones then finished his career in July 1968 with a 10 round draw with Chuck Leslie. Richie Peters Rating 1 USA HW 1961-67 4 wins / 22 losses / 1 draw / 0 KO Hometown: Portland, OR Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Peters won 3 lost 2 and drew 1 before he labored through 19 consecutive defeats from May 1962 thru February 1967. Most noteable losses were to Vic Brown, four times to Dave Centi, three times to John Massey((13-2-2,9), and to Billy Stephan(19-12-1,14). Finally in September 1967 he managed to break through with another win. It was against an Al Fiddler who has no other known professional fight from Vacncouver, Canada. Peters stops Fiddler in the 4th round. Peters moment of victory is dashed quickly as he's knocked out in the 1st round a month later by Johnny Caruso to end Peters' career. Ski Goldstein Rating 1 USA HW 1963-68 13 wins / 6 losses / 0 draws / 10 KO Hometown: San Diego, CA Birthplace: Milwaukee, WI Rating by: Rocco Del sesto Goldstein started out with 8 consecutive knockout victories in 5 rounds or less. Most noteable wins being over Dave Furch(10-19-4,4) and Al Gonzalez(18-5-1,9). Then in November 1964 at Madison Square Garden, he was knocked down once in the 3rd and twice in the 7th on the way to a 7th round knockout by Billy Stephan(19-12-1,14). Golstein came back with a 10 round decision victory over Manuel Ramos then lost consecutive 6 round decisions to Lou Hicks and Matt Blow then in February 1966 he travelled to London, England for a first time fight outside the US where he was stopped in the 3rd round by Jack Bodell. Goldstein then headed back to the West coast and won fights against Don Koontz, and three straight against Dave centi. In Novemeber 1967 we see Goldstein back in Europe, this time in Rome, Italy. It's not a good visit across the pond again for Goldstein as he's knocked out in the 2nd round by Eduardo Corletti. A couple months later in January 1968 Goldstein comes back to Califorinia, in San Diego and fights for the last time when he's stopped in the 6th round by Sam Wyatt. Photo attached is Goldstein |

Love the avatar Ice. That is the typical dad of the 1950's and early 60's that you see on all of the documentaries of the time. LOL. I can hear that voice now.."and here is dad, hard at work building his bomb shelter"..lol. Remember watching those old documentaries in school? They looked so cheesy to us kids of the 70's..can only imagine what todays youngsters think when watching those things.

New 1967 Heavyweight Replay Project
Clarence Boone Rating 1 USA
HW 1958,63-72 4 wins / 19 losses / 0 draws / 3 KO Alias: C.B. Hometown: Fort Worth, TX Birthplace: Houston, TX Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Clarence bounced around between fighting middle, Lightheavy and Heavyweights. The 1968 Ring Record Book lists him as a Lightheavy, which he appeared to be fighting mainly as in 1967, but again he bounced up and down in weight it appeared quite often in his career so he's rated here as a heavyweight as listed in boxrecord and his fighting weight is listed as majority of the time. He started out with 4 straight losses. Lost a 6 round decision to middleweight AJ Mccoy(15-14-2,9) in Dec 1958. He then does not show a fight again in boxrec till Feb 1963 when he's knocked out in the 1st round by Sonny Moore. After another decision loss to another middleweight, Billy Glover in April 1963, Boone looses his 4th fight, a 4 round decision to HW Jimmy(Irish) Manahan(9-4-0,4). Finally in October 1963 he gets his first win, a 2nd round KO of Eddie Jones(3-2-1,1). From then on in 1964 thru 1966 he fights only 7 times, winning the first against Manahan and then loosing 6, 4 by KO. Losses included to Wayne Heath(14-10-0,6), Jefferson Davis and Dave Zyglewicz in Zyggies' 3rd career bout in Oct 1965. Then comes 1967 and Boone suddenly gets busy though no more successful, as he looses 5 more fights. After 3rd round KO losses to Mark Tessman and Bobby Dennard(15-3-0,13), he looses 3 straight 10 round decisions to Tessman and then twice to Karl Zurheide. Tessman and Zurheide where two of the bright new Lightheavies in the 1960s. Dennard was only real heavyweight. In January 1968 it was loss number 12 in a row, a 2nd round TKO to Tony (Kid) Longoria. Boone then hangs things up for over 3 years until he comes back to the ring in April 1971. He wins twice in 1971 knocking out Terry Krueger and Jimmy Boyde(9-7-2,8) before loosing in Sept 1971 to Elmo (Tex) Henderson(22-20-1,12). Henderson was in the later stages of his career having fought most of his earlier success as a lightheavyweight. Two fights in 1972 finish Boone's career, both 2nd round KO losses. The first to Terry Krueger and then the 2nd, Boone in his final fight for good, becomes George Foreman's 34th victim. |
