Well, not really, they still dominated the play after his sending off, and they still had 1/2 chances after the extra time. Surely it didn't help, but he didn't blow their chances.

If you are selfish and only thinking about yourself...Italy have a rematch against France in September in Euro 2008 qualifying. It cant possibly be good for the team to walk away right now.

I maintain that it's the best of time. There are qualifying matches all the time, the best times to leave are right after the World Cup or the Euro. And, that's pretty much what he did. You didn't answer my question though, if not now, when's the best time to leave?

Thats true but he is their best PK taker and his departure had to have some effect on team morale. As others have mentioned, a better course of action would have been to get a hold of Materazzi after the match.

Well, of course. It really didn't help them, but he didn,t blow their chances of winning, is all.

The best time for a coach to voluntarily leave is if he is doing a poor job. leaving at this point can only upset Italys team chemistry

So a coach can't leave a team if he's successful without being selfish, but if he leaves when his team isn't doing well it's not selfish? Huh?

First part: yes

Second part: No because he is benefitting the team by stepping down. lippis departure at this stage can have zero positive benefits for Forza Italia. Again, just my

That's insane. A coach can't leave a team if he's doing well without being called selfish, which I assume you mean as demeaning? That's... wow.

If a coach leaves a team because...

...then i definitly assert its a supreme act of selfishness. It puts the coaches reputation above the team.

If, on the other jand, there is a personal emergency obviously my argument wouldnt apply.

Sports are basically war civilizied and played with rules. Generals dont leave their troops in the middle of battle. Unless they are relieved. This is where i am coming from with my argument. Lippi won the Cup now he rides off into the sunset because his reputation is affirmed. Hate that.

It's not during the middle of battle that he left though. He won the "war".

I agree with CC. This isn't a life or death situation, he took his team through an entire "war", and decided to quit after it was done, to let someone fight the next one.

For the third time, I ask this question: when is the best time to leave, if you no longer want to run the team?

Enjoy

It also includes Hot Blonde Brazillian Girl (HBBG) who is one of the top 10 most attractive women I have ever seen.

But she is downright hideous up next to that goal by Maxi Rodriguez

I answered that the first time. IMO, and my opinion only, to 'no longer want to run the team', is, in and off itself, selfish. I know this isnt a realistic POV but i am a romantic at heart and I think a national team coach should stay until he is asked to leave or only if he has a good personal reason to leave. Or if he was contracted for only a short period of time.

Yeah Lippi won and fled because I am sure he believed that it would be extreemly difficult to repeat his success in 2008.

Zidane gets a three game ban (lenient IMO considering De Rossi got four games, what I expected Zidane to get, for his elbow on McBride, a similar offence), and fine of £3,260 (~$6,000)
Materazzi gets a two game ban and a fine of £2,170 (~$4,000)
