Yeah, different places I've read it, but none of the mainstream news outlets, at least when I checked 4 hours ago, had anything.

a stat I just noticed: With the final score being 1-1 (plus PKs), a 16 year run of final matches ends with at least one team being shut out through 90 minutes...

2002: Brazil 2, Germany 0
1998: France 3, Brazil 0
1994: Brazil 0, Italy 0 (3-2 Brazil in PKs)
1990: German 1, Argentina 0

it also evens things out in WCs between Germany and Italy.

Italy won at home in 1934, Germany at home in 1974. Germany won in Italy in 1990, Italy now win in Germany in 2006.

This thread had too much talk about balls, so I figured I'd throw some ladies into it.

And an interesting bit on Wikipedia, reverted before everyone edited it.

Zidane is one of the football icons of his generation and is known to be modest, quiet and admittedly shy. However, Zidane has occasionally shown a quick temper on the pitch. One such display occurred in a 2000/2001 Champions League match between Juventus Turin and Hamburger SV, in which Zidane headbutted Jochen Kientz; he received a red card for this action. He also received a red card in the 1998 World Cup for stamping on a Saudi player. In extra time of the 2006 World Cup final, he head-butted Italy's Marco Materazzi, allegedly in response to a racial slur.

SportsCenter actually went through the incidents overnight...Im fairly confident in saying they spent 15 minutes on the World Cup if not a little more...while I like it, it just shows how drastically they inflate their own programming which pretty much disguists me. They spent 5-10 on the Champions League final as well.

You should have put some money on that prediction.
That along with a few correct scores, would have given you a nice bit of dinero.

Now you can see why teams will cheat, if it means they can win.

And on that sort of subject, the winner of the Golden Ball has been announced and is...

Zinedine Zidane.
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060710/1/8rik.html

With Fabio Cannavaro, and Andrea Pirlo in silver ball and bronze ball position respectively.
