P Dick Wellborn (22-R) was sent back to Portland (AAA) and RP Norm Crone (23-L) was recalled. Yes, he's the fella with the infinite ERA..... Jacksonville Jays (86-42 .672 17 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) at New Orleans Pelicans (59-71 .454 28 GB in 6th place in the Southern Division) JAX: Jim Baucom (25-L) (19-4 1.50 ERA 216.1 IP, 121 H, 12 HR, 43 BB, 240 SO) Ace(04)/Hurler(04)/All-Star(5: 02-06) NO: Keith Casebolt (28-L) (3-1 1.12 ERA 16 IP, 15 H, 0 HR, 8 BB, 10 SO in AAA) Baucom gave up 1 run on 7 hits and 3 walks with 9 strikeouts in 7.1 innings last time out win a win at Orlando. From here on out every series will be our final one with the team we play. We are in Syracuse to play the Sycamores, who beat us in 6 games in the 2004 Millennial Cup, a 4 game series through the weekend. They just split a pair of games in Rochester. We split 4 games with them in Jacksonville, June 22-25, and only scored 12 total runs in the series because their rotation is loaded up with left-handers. They are 9th in scoring with 4.19 runs per game (Jacksonville is #1 with 4.77). The Sycamores are 5th in fewest runs allowed with 3.83 per game (Jacksonville is #1 with 3.22). Their run differential is +47, 4th best in the MLB, and ours is now +203, the best! Jacksonville Jays (93-47 .664 18 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) at Memphis Mules (65-76 .461 28.5 GB in 6th place in the Southern Division) JAX: Tommy Keyser (27-L) (5-1 4.32 ERA 58.1 IP, 56 H, 9 HR, 12 BB, 31 SO) MEM: Bill Miller (29-L) (1-3 6.55 ERA 55 IP, 67 H, 7 HR, 14 BB, 20 SO) Keyser gave up 3 runs on 7 hits, 1 home run and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts in 7.1 innings last time out in a win at Buffalo. With us being only a .500 team against lefties and all the lefties the Rochester Roosters and Sycamores have, we should definitely be the underdog this year, whichever of them we end up facing..... |

Today is Ken Yockey's 27th birthday! We are back home to play the New Orleans Pelicans a 3 game series. They were swept in 3 games at Richmond over the weekend and have lost 6 in a row. We are 7-4 against them on the season and lost 3 of 4 games in their first visit, June 15-18. They are 10th in scoring with 4.19 runs per game (Jacksonville is #1 with 4.63) we are only 10 runs ahead of Indianapolis now. The Pelicans are also 10th in fewest runs allowed with 4.31 per game (Jacksonville is #1 with 3.22). We are not in imminent danger of being overtaken on that front. Their run differential is -17, 9th in the MLB, and ours is +201, still the best, more than 100 runs better than 2nd place Rochester (+98). New Orleans Pelicans (63-81 .438 33 GB in 7th place in the Southern Division) at Jacksonville Jays (95-47 .669 18 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) NO: Ramiro Huerta (34-R) (11-12 4.57 ERA 181.1 IP, 196 H, 20 HR, 67 BB, 67 SO) Gold Glove(03) JAX: Jim Baucom (25-L) (20-6 1.54 ERA 240.1 IP, 137 H, 12 HR, 49 BB, 261 SO) Ace(04)/Hurler(04)/All-Star(5: 02-06) Believe it or not, Huerta, who is NOT a lefty, is 2-1 in 3 starts against the Jays this season with a 3.98 ERA. 20.1 IP, 18 H, 1 HR, 11 BB, 6 SO. Baucom gave up 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts in 7 IP at Buffalo last time out, but we only scored 1 run and he took a loss. We were in shut out in his start before that and he lost that one, too. Lineups: Pos Name (Age-Bats BA-AB-HR-RBI-OPS-SB DEF) NEW ORLEANS 1: RF Franklin Sanchez (25-R .275-578-5-38-.688-40 A+) All-Star(04)/Gold Glove(2: 04-05) 2: CF Len Walker (23-L .296-230-0-19-.736-5 B) 3: 3B Larry Davis (31-S .376-548-1-84-.850-13 C+) Silver Slugger(01)/All-Star(2: 01,06) 4: 1B Jay Kegler (37-L .287-342-14-66-.877-4 C) 5: LF Jerry Rafanello (35-S .348-178-5-27-.908-0 D-) All-Star(2: 01,03) 6: C Tsuyoshi Kotani (25-R .253-340-1-44-.669-0 B) Rookie #88 prospect 7: 2B Fred Ferraro (24-R .218-261-12-40-.640-4 C) Rookie #21 prospect 8: SS Dave Behm (29-R .211-402-7-31-.613-5 B+) All-Star(05-06) 9: P Ramiro Huerta (34-R .115-52-0-1-.264-0 D) Gold Glove(03) JACKSONVILLE 1: CF Tommy Adams (24-L .303-142-0-16-.752-2 D+) 2: SS Brian Bowden (29-R .311-470-4-49-.772-31 A) Gold Glove(2: 02,2B-04) 3: RF Ray McDonald (26-L .300-504-14-79-.808-22 B+) MVP/Silver Slugger/All-Star(3: 04-06) 4: 1B Jack Washburn (24-L .261-422-24-85-.860-21 B) 5: 3B Tom McDowell (29-R .269-479-30-92-.853-22 C+) All-Star 6: LF Fernando Tello (24-L .313-342-8-43-.781-2 C) 7: 2B Buddy Hendricks (27-R .257-191-0-11-.618-14 A++) 8: C Bob Hutson (24-L .213-178-0-18-.636-0 B) RoY 9: P Jim Baucom (25-L .175-80-0-7-.408-0 C) Ace(04)/Hurler(04)/All-Star(5: 02-06) Game Start: 7:05 PM Ballpark: Connie Mack Stadium Weather: 80 F, Partly Cloudy, with an 11 MPH wind blowing out to right Attendance: 15,441 Top of the First Franklin Sanchez strikes out! Len Walker lines a double to left..... Larry Davis grounds out to 2nd and Walker goes to 3rd. Jay Kegler strikes out on 3 pitches! Bottom of the First Tommy Adams pops out to short... Brian Bowden grounds out to short. Ray McDonald lines a hit to left! Jack Washburn swings at a 3-2 pitch and grounds out to 2nd... If we lose 3 games to this bum this year, it will be too embarrassing to endure.... Already losing 2 games to him is near unbearable..... Top of the Second With 1 out, Tsuyoshi Kotani takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4... Fred Ferraro triples to right center and Kotani scores.... 1 to 0, Pelicans. Dave Behm pokes a 2-2 pitch to left center for a hit and Ferraro scores... 2 to 0, Pelicans. With Behm running, P Ramiro Huerta strikes out and C Bob Hutson throws Behm out stealing for a double play!! Top of the Third Franklin Sanchez grounds a double over the 3rd base bag.... But the next three make outs! Top of the Fourth With 1 out, Tsuyoshi Kotani strikes out, the 266th strikeout of the season for Jim Baucom, tying his own MLB record! Fred Ferraro pokes their fifth hit of the game to center.... Dave Behm strikes out to set a new MLB record with 267 strikeouts! Bottom of the Fourth Ray McDonald and Jack Washburn lead off with back to back walks! Tom McDowell doubles to left center and McDonald scores, but Washburn gets thrown out at the plate, 7-6-2......... NEVER MAKE THE FIRST OUT AT HOME!!!!!!! Idiots... 2 to 1, Pelicans. The next two make outs........ Bottom of the Fifth Bob Hutson grounds a hit to right and P Jim Baucom bunts him to 2nd. Tommy Adams grounds a hit to center and Hutson beats the throw home and Adams takes 2nd! Tie Game: 2 to 2! CF Len Walker hurt himself making the throw. Franklin Sanchez moves to center and Tom Spiess (29-L) is in to play right. With 2 outs, Ray McDonald strikes out on 3 pitches against a pitcher who is striking out 3.3 per 9 innings....................... Top of the Eight Tom Spiess leads off with a 4 pitch walk.... The Bullpen gets up. Larry Davis walks on 4 pitches....... With 2 outs, Tsuyoshi Kotani hits a home run to right....... 5 to 2, Pelicans. Only his second home run of the season.... Bottom of the Ninth New Pitcher: Edwin Rodriguez (25-L), their rookie closer, who is 5-9 with 10 SV and a 4.76 ERA in 62.1 IP. Last year, in 19 G, he only gave up 1 run in 25 IP. Our old friend, Charlie Faber (35-R) is in to play 2nd. PH Ken Yockey (27-R), the birthday boy, grounds one to 1st, but Fred Ferraro, who is there now, boots it! Tom McDowell lines the first pitch to right center for a hit! PH Greg Walker (24-S) grounds out to 1st, unassisted, and the runners move up. Buddy Hendricks grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and both runners advance. 5 to 3, Pelicans. PH T.R. Hunter (29-R), who only an idiot would send in to pinch-hit, since he has not made hard contact with a pitch since I can't remember when, swings at the first pitch and lines one hard to center! But Franklin Sanchez runs it down........... Lost - 5 to 3 3 losses in a row for Jim Baucom........ We had 6 hits and made no errors New Orleans had 9 hits and made 1 error Over the last 12 games, we have scored 36 runs, an even average of 3 runs per game.... Jim Baucom (L 20-7) went 7.2 innings, allowed 5 runs, 8 hits, 1 home run, 3 walks and struck out 11. Sine the 1st of August, he is 3-4 with a 2.98 ERA. Certainly not horrible, but also certainly not Baucomesque..... RHP Roger Wallace went 1.1 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 2. Ramiro Huerta (W 12-12) went 8 innings, gave us 2 runs, 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. He is the first and one of the most unlikely pitchers to win 3 games from the Jays this season.... He's not even a lefty! LHP Edwin Rodriguez (SV 11 ) went 1 inning, gave us 1 unearned run and 1 hit. RF Ray McDonald had a hit and a walk and scored a run. 3B Tom McDowell had 2 hits with a double and an RBI.
