First blush

So disappointed, I just knew, or felt, this wasn't going to end how I wanted it. There are some massive things to be done, especially in the bullpen.

Going to try and present the offseason differently. Having found this trade summary screen I'll compile the winters moves which I think will be more fun and easier to follow with a visual cue to what teams are really active and trading.

On the home front here is where we are.

The new budget is 154M, up from 136. We have the leagues highest budget, and highest payroll, pre-arbitration.
I have 4 cases, every one of them big from a player and dollars perspective.

Steve McKinley wants 2.0. I am likely taking this to a hearing as he'll be the 5 guy if he's not dealt this winter.

Andy Morgan wants 5.775M. I am going to work on a 4-6 year deal if I can get him into some team friendly terms. He's 24 and a horse.

Jorge Trujillo wants 5.5M. Same deal here. While he's my 3, he's likely many other teams 1 or 2. he's 27, so I'm hoping 3-4 years would be ok with him.

Earl Shaw is looking for 6M. I am unsure on this one. As I think about it, Ramon Castro might be a better, cheaper, option. Maybe I try to sign him to a club friendly deal an deal him? Stan Cannon, a bone crushing left handed hitter, is also in the mix now.

Everyone but Shaw has agreed to talk longer term deals. Earl's looking for more money and a shorter window, I'll work on that one but likely after his case is heard.

Hirings and Firings

FIRED:
New York Knights fired GM Glenn Wilhelm and Manager Carlos Rios. Rios took over the clubs final 4 games and went 4-0, funny I know, but they're clearly looking to go a different way. Wilhelm spent 1 season as the GM after 10 years as the GM in Philadelphia, his teams making 5 post season appearances and winning the 2014 World Series.
Dayton fired GM Giancarlo Maringhi after his 3rd season. He was the GM in New Hampshire, being fired just 1 season after he helped them to the 2018 playoffs.
Providence fired GM Ron Quick.
Philadelphia fired GM Elmer Simms.
San Jose fired GM Carlos Rosales.
Las Vegas fired Manager Matt Atkins after 2 seasons at the helm. The club finished 90-72 this year, apparently that wasn't enough.
The Dallas Texans let of of GM Chris Jones and Manager Bryce Tyler.
New Orleans fired GM Patrick Baker.

Iron Pigs call a press conference....

Chicago announces signings of 3.
Chicago has managed to come to terms on contract extensions for 3 of their starting pitchers today.
RHP Steve McKinley (28) has agreed to terms on a 3 year 6.27M dollar deal, 27 year old Jorge Trujillo agreed to terms on a 4 year 27.9M dollar deal (4th year team option of 10.48M) and 24 year old Andy Morgan has agreed to terms on a 4 year 31.48M dollar deal as well.
The moves solidify a rotation owner Omar Marquis has said he expects to win more than 1 title in his final years as owner of the franchise.
Fan interest jumped to 98.
The moves drop the payroll over 10M for next season, with Earl Shaw as the only contract still not finished, and likely headed for arbitration.

Off season trades through Arbitration, 11/17

Thought it might be cool to watch the off season moves this way, a nice way to see visually, who's active and what not.

Meeting notes:

I am writing these rather hastily after the impromptu meeting with Mr. Marquis today, aboard his boat.
1) Our payroll, and our budget, are now the highest in the league.
2) That is ok, ONLY, if the team WINS the World Series.
3) If the team does not win the world series, the staff is to be let go, and the payroll is to be brought down to a 'Maximum' of 100M.
4) Those were not talking points, those were stated 'what if's', if the team fails to win the world series. There is no more satisfaction in his mind just 'making it' there. If the team fails to win the world series, with the leagues highest payroll, the staff is to be let go, contracts or not, and the payroll must come in at or under, 100M for 2024. Regardless of what that means to the on the field roster, there will be not 1 dollar spent on the IBL 40 man roster, over 100M, no matter what the budget is.
So that's a pretty clear road to walk, win it all or else.....

Free Agents file...

An amazingly deep pool this year, some huge money going to be tossed around. Some familiar names too.
No clue what Lewis is going to end up getting.

Update

I am going to try and do the free agent signings the same as trades, will compile the clippings, and post an update every few off season weeks as big ticket guys sign. Another way to show off the uniforms and logos these guys have busted their humps to make for the IBL.

Moves, signings through Dec 1st

I'm guessing it's a nice time to be a Baltimore fan.

The Kelley deals 4th year is a 16M player option. You may remember Pat as the 1st, and I think still the only player to ever go straight from the draft to the IBL.

Rule 5 draft

We added 3 more players to fill our roster, and obviously didn't select anyone in the draft.

Sacramento took Fernando De La Torre in the 1st round. He was acquired in February of last year for AAA 1B Michael Bailey. Went 12-8 4.58 in 28 AAA starts this year. While he does touch 100 and has outstanding stamina, his control is, at best, that of a #5 guy in our opinion.

Pre Winter meeting signings, trades...

Hooks extend Bogermans
CF Terence Bogermans and the Corpus Christi Hooks have agreed on terms of a 5 year 75M dollar contract extension to keep the 27 year old in Texas. He's a career .293 hitter with 106 HR's and was integral part of the Hooks run to a title in 2021.

And the Colts continue to spend...
A Japanese free agent enters the IBL, and Mike Lewis backs up the Brinks truck, and thankfully stays in the Coastal League!
And the Wizards are wheeling and dealing.

Winter Meetings Day 1

Busy day, Staten Island shaking things up.
Buffalo putting some power arms in the pen, and Edmonton gets a big time SP for what I think was good money.

(And fwiw the guys making the logos, and jerseys, wow, they look fantastic!)

The 51's trade SP Joe Hester to Philly, and in the deal get back his brother, a SS, Phil.
Dailey, the reliever in the Yanks, 51's deal, had 35 saves 2 seasons ago for Vegas.

Winter Meetings Day 2

We make a move.....
Davis is a prospect, but a LH hitting OF prospect, of which we have an abundance of. Jones pares down some payroll, and makes room for the younger RH power arms I'll be bringing in and up. Aragon was a draft pick stuck in AAA and Reyes was a minor league free agent we had as a stop gap AAA option if needed.

And seriously, what the hell is the Silver Star GM thinking???

The Johnston deal was for 3 years, Rodriguez got 3 years 15.3M from Fresno.

Odd day

Made a trio of moves to end up with a very good CF prospect in Willard Battle. Outstanding defender in center, runs well, and had a .493 OBP in AA last year.
RH hitter with theability to put the bat on the ball, 44K's to 118 BB's in the minors last season. The Yankees #1 pick in 2019 (11th overall) out of Mississippi State.
