yeah no complaints with vegas besides my general thoughts on f1 this season... the kind of race that's a bit of fun with chaos like baku or jeddah... definitely need to improve on the infrastructure though

Lando one point short of fourth and fifth place in the final standings.

Kind of glad the season is over but it's going to be a long 97 days or whatever.

Checo's penalty means Max finished with twice his points, 575-285. Even more insane is that the gap from him to the best non RBR was 341 points. That's 14 GP's! That's easily the most dominant season of all time, better than Schumacher in 2004 or Mansell in 92 or Ascari in 52-53 (which was F2, anyway).

I read an interesting stat last night. Regarding points, Haas is closer to Mercedes than Mercedes is to Red Bull.

There are more "fun" stats like that. F.e. Dutch Max scored more points (575) than the bottom six teams combined, and almost enough to also lump Ossie in with them.
This was one duuuull season. At least Lando started scoring podiums mid-season, else it would have been too much of a drag to bear.

I thought it was a pretty exciting season outside of the final results. These cars produce much better racing than we've seen in a long time.
Checo finished closer to De Vries in points than to Max, btw.

Top points-earning drivers of teams ranked by the % of points they got compared to their teammate(s):
Actual contenders: Alonso - 278.38% Lando - 211.34% Dutch Max - 201.75% Hamilton - 133.71% Ghastly - 106.90% Leclerc - 103.00% Also-rans: Albon - 2,700.00% Huelkenberg - 300.00% Yuki - 212.50% (all 3 combined) Bottles - 166.67% I'll find a way soon to get Lando to the top spot...!

Personally I wouldn't move to Red Bull (takes a sip from his Red Bull) as long as Dr. Helmut Marko is alive. Too much crossfire. And Dutch Max is always right.
![]() ![]() Then again, with Mc***** you never know whether they'll put a three-wheeled F2 car on the grid at the season opener again....... From what I have seen, more than half of the driver contracts end after the 2024 season, including both Ferrari drivers'. But I have witnessed enough of Charles Leclerc holding his helmet on his head with both hands and clamoring why he's so unlucky (cursed, if you ask me) that I don't want Lando anywhere near that circus.

To be fair, that's been going on since 1968 with Gold Leaf Team Lotus. There were points where Lotus and Brabham didn't even have Lotus or Brabham in the official team names anywhere. When Lauda was at Brabham the official team name was just "Parmalat Racing". In 1979 Williams Grand Prix's official team name was "Albilad-Saudia Racing Team".

There's always been a distinction between the team name and the constructor name, and it was a lot more important in that era of customer cars up to 1980-ish. In your examples, the constructors remained Brabham-Alfa Romeo, Brabham-Ford, and Williams-Ford. But here, they're renaming everything.
And it's getting dumber all the time. Even last year, the entry list contained the following official team names (ignoring those without "title sponsors"): BWT Alpine F1 Team Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team MoneyGram Haas F1 Team Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team Oracle Red Bull Racing Nobody ever calls them that, but if the powers that be at the blue-and-silver can company decide that the team name is TurdStream Volatile Dumpling F1 Team presented by Wish, and the constructor is renamed a variety of the same, you run out of options. Or you go back to Minardi. I don't even know whether it is legal anymore for the "entrant" and the "constructor" to be different entities apart from title sponsors. At least I can not remember an instance where a team fielded a car not constructed by themselves (with some notorious gray zones around that very same Petit Red Bull team especially) since perhaps the 1990s... ![]() And then there was Identity Crisis Formerly Known as Sauber With or Without BMW and so on Racing F1 Team, which throughout the 2023 season changed it's name back and forth between "Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake" and "Alfa Romeo F1 Team Kick", and is now to be known as "Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber". I wonder how Peter Sauber feels about the "Kick Sauber" part.

Addendum, if I may.
Since 1982 the FIA has required F1 teams to own the intellectual rights to the chassis they enter into races, killing privateer teams. The last privateer entry was a Williams-Ford entered by a Spanish group at the 1981 Spanish GP at Jarama (but this was withdrawn before the race). That doesn't mean that teams didn't race chassis they didn't build themselves after that, f.e. Larrousse bought chassis from Lola and other designers (usually failing to pay) for most of its existence in the late 80s and early 90s, and that period saw a whole slew of mostly Italian and French backmarker teams that usually failed to prequalify and bought and sold aerodynamically deficient bathtubs back and forth between themselves. Also, takeovers, like Alain Prost's 1997 buyout of Ligier just before the start of the season, with the team and constructor renamed to Prost, although the chassis retained Ligier's production code. Prost didn't build the "AP01" car until 1998. But of course with the buyout Prost also acquired the intellectual rights to the "Ligier JS45". So yeah, that is a lot of old man rant just to point out that, eh, there isn't really a distinction between a team's constructor name and money name anymore.
