The San Jose Raiders travelled overnight to Atlanta to face the 56-43 Colonels in what would be a tough road trip. Manager Mike Moore decided to make a few line up changes for the first game of the series.

SP Ron McDonald

CF Mark Tice
SS Enrique Huerta
3B Mark Sofka
DH Min-Kyu Yoo
LF Mike Lentz
1B Hugo Arias
RF Manny Jaime
2B Armando Sandoval
C Scott Ha

The game started quietly for both sides with both the Atlanta Colonels starter Marty Richards and the Raiders Ron McDonald keeping things tight.

It wasn’t until the 4th inning when a run was scored. The top of the 4th saw Mark Sofka of the San Jose Raiders smack one 422 feet for the opening run.

Things continued to be tight as the pitching staff of both teams battled it out in a tough duel to see how could give up the least hits. Ron McDonald went 7 innings with only 5 hits given up while Marty Richards gave up only 3 hits in 6.2 innings.

The Bullpens proved to be just as frugal and it took until the top of the 9th before any more runs were added. Mark Tice hit a triple in the for San Jose. He then came home when Enrique Huerta hit a single.

The Raiders turned to closer Seth Fiebelkorn to bring the game home. He did this with all the ease he has shown all year as he gave up just a single in the bottom of the 9th to give the Raiders a 2-0 win.

This win raised the Raiders record to 51-49

As we near the trading deadline there are a large number of trades going on but nothing involving the San Jose Raiders. There have not even been any rumours of a trade for the Raiders.

Hugo Arias got a walk as did Mark Sofka to load the bases. Alex Robinson hit a single to bring home Huerta. A Scott Ha single then bought home Arias and also saw Sofka round third and sprint for home to beat the throw from right. This gave the raiders 4 runs and a lead of 9-3.

The Indianapolis Ironmen began their fightback in the top of the 6th. Luis Melgar hit a solo home run 436 feet. Ken Hague then hit a double. Hague then sprinted round third and headed for home on a Steve Gardner single, beating the throw from right.

The bottom of the 6th saw the San Jose raiders try to snuff out the Ironmen’s fight back. Enrique Huerta hit a solo effort 366 feet to make the score 10-5 in the Raiders favour.

The top of the 7th saw the Ironmen keep trying to get back in the game. Cameron Christensen hit a single. A double from Antonio Falcon saw him move to third. Christensen then came home on a Luis Melgar single.

The Ironmen scored again in the top of the 8th. Jon Cox and Jerry Gasper were both given a walk. Johnny Sauceda then hit a nice single to right that allowed Cox to move around third and come home, beating the throw.

With the Ironmen starting a revival the 9th was handed over to Seth Fiebelkorn by the Raiders. Fiebelkorn did what he does best and closed the game out, giving up just 1 single. This gave the Raiders a 10-7 victory to take their record to 53-51 for the year.

Enrique Huerta tied the San Jose single game record of 4 runs in a game.

Tomorrow is the trade deadline so we shall see if there are any moves by the raiders

The San Jose Raiders were quick out of the block as they got the first run of the game in the bottom of the 1st. Hugo Arias hit a nice double to get on base. He moved to third when Mark Sofka got a wild pitch. Sofka then singled to allow Arias to come home.

Things then went quiet until the top of the 5th. The Ironmen got themselves into the game by using a lead off double by Antonio Falcon. Steve Gardner hit a single that he turned into a double while Falcon ran round third and headed home, beating the throw from left. Gardner did the same as Falcon when Jon Cox hit a single to make the score 2-1 in the Ironmen’s favour.

The bottom of the 5th saw the San Jose Raiders tie things up. Armando Sandoval worked a nice walk. Mark Tice then hit a triple that saw Sandoval move round the bases and come home.

The top of the 7th saw the Indianapolis Ironmen re take the lead. Ken Hague was hit by a pitch that saw him leave the game. Aguilar replaced him on base. J.J. Estrada then came to the plate and struck one 372 feet to take a 2 run homer and make the score 4-2 for the Ironmen.

The top of the 8th saw the Ironmen finally break the San Jose Raiders. Jerry Gasper got to second base after an error on his single. Joe Tworkowski was given an intentional walk. Cameron Christensen then came to the plate and punished the walk with a 345 foot 3 run homer to put the Ironmen up 7-2.

The game finished 7-2 to the Ironmen and dropped the San Jose raiders back to 53-52 for the year.

The trade deadline passed with a number of trades but nothing for the San Jose Raiders. In total the league saw 41 trades during the first seven months of the year of which the Raiders were only in 1 when they traded Manny Huerta to the Raleigh Beavers on the eve of the season starting.

The San Jose raiders now face a short trip down the coast to San Diego to face the Marauders of the Eagle Conference.

The San Jose Raiders start a 3 game road trip at the 49-56 San Diego marauders of the eagle Conference. Manager Mike Moore kept the line up from the previous game.

CF Mark Tice
SS Enrique Huerta
DH Hugo Arias

RF Alex Robinson

2B Armando Sandoval

The game took a little while to get going. The San Diego Marauders were the first to make an impact in the bottom of the 4th. A lead off solo home run that went 370 feet from Alphonso Bush got them onto the score board.

It took until the top of the 6th before the San Jose Raiders troubled the scorers. Alex Robinson got a well worked walk. Manny Jaime then sent both Robinson and himself on a tour of the bases as he hit one 343 feet for a 2 run homer. Scott Ha got a single. He moved to second when Mike Lentz got a walk. Armando Sandoval loaded the bases with a single. Mark Tice then got a walk to bring Scott Ha home. This put the Raiders up 3-1.

The San Diego Marauders cut the Raiders lead to 1 in the bottom of the 8th. A second solo home run from Alphonso Bush, this one going 358 feet, made the score 3-2.

The top of the 9th saw the San Jose Raiders extend their lead. Enrique Huerta hit a solid single. A double from Hugo Arias then saw Huerta sprint round third and head home beating the throw from right. Mark Sofka was given an intentional walk. Alex Robinson loaded the bases with a walk. Manny Jaime then hit a long fly out that allowed Arias to tag up at 3rd and come sprinting home, beating the throw from centre.

Seth Fiebelkorn was given the bottom of the 9th and while he was not at his ruthless best he had enough runs to play with to take the victory for San Jose. Eduardo Sigala got a double. A single from Tony Garcia saw Sigala to third. Dorian Coryell then hit a single that bought Sigala home. A Sac Bunt by Pat Murphy put Garcia on third and Coryell on second. Garcia came home when Omar Mitchell ground out. Fibelkorn finally got out of the inning after this to give the Raiders a 5-4 victory.

This victory saw the raiders raise their record to 54-52 for the year.
