Thought this was cool. During the offseason the A's traded for Billy Williams. Gave up Mike Epstein to get him.

Nearing 20 games into the 74 season and Aaron remains homerless. Stuck at 696. He's getting starts here and there and has his average sitting around .340, he just hasn't found his home run mojo yet. The Brave really need to quit giving George Foremantle starts in CF though. Dude a pile of nothing and the starts should go to Baker and Lum, not some bag of sand.

Roberto Clemente decided to extend his Manny Mota tour of the Americas and is once again pinch hitting for the Pirates in 74. I was really surprised to see him comeback. Thinking it's due to the fact I'm still in the Reserve Clause years. Guessing if free agency was active, he would have called it quits. Joining Clemente on the Manny Mota tour this year is none other than Willie Mays. Mays is pinch hitting for the Giants.

I'm enjoying following this. Your Tigers SS rant is hilarious.

Another where is the Thanks button post. Plus it sums up the whole deal. Teams could play a Ray Oyler and win, because the dude was a vacuum cleaner. What you can't do is insert Willie Flatlander into to lineup as the leadoff hitter and have him hit .115 while making 97 errors at SS over the span of 47 games.

Just noticed last night that the Tigers have promoted some dude named Mark Fidrych. He's the number 5 guy in their bullpen. Wonder if he will make the rotation in 74 or 75 ahead of his actual 76 debut?
Norm Cash is no longer starting for the Tigers. Instead, a guy named Bill McNulty is manning 1B for the Cats. |

Hope the Tigers had less trouble tracking him down than the A’s did.

Is Ron LeFlore forcing his way into the lineup?

I also enjoyed hearing about the Tigers SS carousel. I hope Aaron gets a chance to get Ruth's record, but it is looking dim at this point.

Hmm above my pay grade. Those toggles would be in League Settings maybe? Pretty sure I have player development on; don’t know what TCR might be; and will have to look for recalc. The biggest issue thus far has been Rico Carty and Bobby Tolan, who were both severely injured and out for the whole year. In the game they became FA; but their ratings were reduced, and of course they were very injury-prone. I decided to play a what-if and treat them as FA with credentials based on their 1970 totals (batting title for Carty; SB crown for Tolan).

We've made it to May 7th 1974 and Hank Aaron remains homerless. He's playing roughly every 3rd or 4th game as a starter. He occasionally will get a couple starts in a row.
Of course, the minute I mentioned Bill McNulty and Tigerfan posted that great story, he was benched and the Mighty Leon Roberts is your new Tiger first baseman. |

If the rest of the season goes like the first month, Dave Parker is looking like a sure bet for NL rookie of the year. Parker already has 6 home runs for the Mets.
It's so fun watching all the guys making their MLB debuts. Garry Templeton is now the starting SS for the Cardinals. |

Well, what was supposed to be the season to watch Aaron chase 714 has been nothing but a disappointment in that regard. April and May have come and gone and Aaron still sits at 0 home runs for the season. He still isn't starting on a regular basis with Garr, Lum and Baker getting the starts in the outfield and Andre Thorton, the starts at 1B. I still think the Braves should move Baker to CF, Garr to RF and let Aaron play LF, but I refuse to interfere.

Did Aaron's power ratings take a big hit for 1974?
