National League American Won:
UCF Crowned: For a team that has never won a College World Series, capturing the National League American is a good start. That's the situation the UCF Knights find themselves in as their division title today became official. "We might not have a lot of championship experience as a franchise, but when push comes to shove, I believe in these guys," said left fielder Topsy Hartsel. "We want to be that team to bring the title home to UCF." Team manager Ricky McCook said it won't be easy to capture the College World Series, but noted that "nothing worth doing ever is." |

Members Only: Cobb Joins .400 Club:
He may be young compared to many NCAA stars, but at the age of 26, Ty Cobb has already proven himself as an elite performer. A .429 batting average on the season has put the Cal Poly Mustangs star into rarefied air. "He's only going to get better, that's the scary thing," the Cal Poly manager told reporters. It will be hard to improve on a campaign that saw the left fielder stroke 273 hits, with 31 doubles, 3 triples, 87 home runs, 185 RBIs and 175 runs scored. "I definitely never expected to hit .429 this year, that's for sure," Cobb said. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mustangs Star Wins Triple Crown: Cal Poly left fielder Ty Cobb had a season that places him among the greats, winning the 3rd Triple Crown in NCAA history. Clearly one of the best players in the American League this year, he compiled a .429 batting average with 273 hits, 31 doubles, 3 triples, 87 home runs and 185 RBIs. His skipper said, "I have been around a few years and have never seen anything like the year Ty had this year. It was truly remarkable." Last edited by 4maddux_cy's; 04-15-2020 at 01:24 AM. |

Best in Wins, Ks, ERA -- Seward Nabs Triple Crown: There's a new Triple Crown winner -- Hokies ace Ed Seward powered his way to the top of the National League in wins, strikeouts and ERA. He was the league's best in all three major pitching categories. In his superb year, the 26-year-old hurler chalked up 26 wins, totaled 406 strikeouts and posted a 1.74 ERA. Seward finished the year 26-5. It looks like a Cy Young Award might be in his future, too.
Speaking to the press about the award, "It's quite an honor to win the pitching Triple Crown. It's good to be rewarded for hard word. I just do whatever it takes to stay at the top of my game. I have a strong work ethic and pride myself on being the best. My teammates deserve a lot of credit, too. I didn't do this all by myself." How good a year did Seward have? One opposing batter put it this way: "We're doing the best we can. But when you've got God on the mound throwing against you, it makes it a little tough." |
